Great variety of terrain. Easy up and down for moderately fit. Poles and two waters suggested.

The trail is much longer than stated and is not accurate to the map online. The trail is around 6 miles long due to modifications to the trail.

So beautiful!! Even the drive to get there is worth it.

Beautiful and challenging hike. Some steep inclines. Beautiful scenery the entire way. Aside from the Black Elk overlook, there is another peak path that offshoots from the main path that contains some scampering opportunities. Good times all around. Do this trail.

The views of the needles were stunning on this hike. Wildflowers, stream crossing and spots to climb rocks on your way up a moderate hike. Lined with wild raspberries, it made it easy to stop and take a look around you. When you get to the trail signs, you are surrounded by granite needles. Meandering is highly recommended.

Great trail and amazing views, particularly atop Little Devil.

Gorgeous scenery!

Beautiful view at top!

Beautiful Scenery!

Did this trail in reverse, up 9 and down 4. #9 was wide and in great condition; amazing views. #4 was narrow and less traveled but with some beautiful views of the Cathedral Spires. Took it slow and easy with my 4 year old hiking alongside. Round trip was about 4 hours.

A nice hike there. The field in the end of the trail is great. Another thing impressed me is the ladder in the trail. It's exciting and funny.

One of the best hikes in the Black Hills.

Beautiful falls at the end of an easy, well-paved trail. To enjoy the full experience make sure to cross the hanging bridge and follow the trail to the bottom of High Falls

Worth it.

This trail takes a little effort, but is not overly difficult. The views are amazing and there are plenty of opportunities for rock scrambling. Parking is somewhat limited, so the trail does not get overly busy.

One of my favorite views! the Badlands is my favorite place to be and this is one of those hikes with great views and though it's moderate it's well worth the hike! Make sure to have lots of water with you too, as it can get extremely warm even in the shade.

Great trail with beautiful views. I did this with my 63 year old parents and while it did take a bit longer than expected everyone enjoyed it. Not much shade after the first couple of miles, so be prepared. I recommend packing a lunch and bringing plenty of water. Several great places near the fire tower at the summit to sit, eat and enjoy the views.

Beautiful trail through buffalo-inhabited prairie. Watch for POISON IVY. The trail starts out going right through one of the largest poison ivy patches I've seen to date. Aside from the poison ivy, this trail is a nice easy hike. NOT recommended for beginners who can't spot the poison ivy.

Awesome fun trail! Easy!

The hiking club trail and waterfall trail were awesome! On the map online, it showed that you could get to a trail that went right along the Minnesota river. The online map is wrong. Use the maps at the park. We tried getting to the river trail and went almost 2 miles through mud, fallen trees, and wet ground before we gave up. It was a great adventure but not an easy one!

The trail was well maintained and not too busy. Make sure you read the signs when you get off the main road and it’s easy to find. Go off the beaten path and follow the crest of the mountain for some spectacular views.

Loved the views!!!!!

Did this trail and loved it. Great views

Fun trail! I really like the ladder!

Trails were a little muddy which was the only trouble I seen while hiking. Would highly recommend hiking this trail some very spectacular views.

Short fun hike with a bit of everything that the Badlands has to offer, except prairie.

Beautiful trail with varying elevations. Take the steep stairs (there had to be 75+ stairs) down to the river before the falls. Very quiet, which I assume not many trek down because of these stairs. We had the river to ourselves for the entire time. On the way back up you’ll get a good leg workout! We did this after exploring High Falls.

First time out there and trail 9 was everything we hoped it would be! Come prepared for some mud and an afternoon thunderstorm

We hiked the castle trail to the medicine trail. We had some trouble at the beginning of trail starting near the north entrance. There weren't enough trail markers--we would end up at an open area with no idea which way to go & ended up at a couple of dead ends. The rest of the trail was well-marked and a mostly easy hike. It took us 2:36 to hike out to Medicine, then come back along Castle (we didn't hike the whole castle).

What a great hike! I began at 5:45 pm tonight and made it up #4 in exactly 90 minutes (didn’t stop). I took #9 down and made it back with 45 minutes of daylight. The hike was worth every minute, and I only saw a total of six people on the entire hike.
