Easy, beautiful hike with tons of wild flowers in the Summer!!

This is one of the best hikes in one of the best national parks and arguably one of the best hikes in the country. The trail along the north or south shores of Lake Josephine are flat but it is heavy grizzly territory. After a little more than 2 miles from the trailhead you will begin the ascent up Mt. Grinnell. The climb is difficult but extremely rewarding. The views of the surrounding Many Glacier area are some of the best in the park and depending on the season, waterfalls are present along the cliff face from glacier runoffs. Once you get to the top you are greeted by Grinnell and Salamander Glaciers. The crystal clear blue glacier water is even more beautiful in person than it is in the photographs. Hikers can take a break relaxing near the glaciers before heading back down. Although it's a challenge, I think everyone that visits GNP should check-out this hike; you won't regret it! Great for date night ❤️ nice and easy.

I don't usually review trails, but this one is pretty great! We went a little later, so it wasn't as busy. But we got to a point in the trail where a moose and her baby were on the trail. We had to wander off the trail but it was an awesome experience. The scenery is also beautiful. It's 4 miles but it's very casual.

We hiked this with our kids in July. Took us 5.5 hrs to get up and 3 down. Well worth the work!! Beautiful views and great hike. We seen brown bears (so take bear spray) and mountain goats. If we did it again I would get there early and hike while it’s cooler...it get quite hot against the rock walls of the trail. Not a lot of shade. Take plenty of water. We refilled on the big waterfall as everyone else was...we did not get sick.

Nice easy hike with great views. The vegetation is quite different from one side of the lake to other.

Counterclockwise route is uphill and steep. Not outstanding views but the lake is worth it.

Really beautiful views - not hard at all, easy way to spend ~2 hours in the morning. There’s also an ice cream shop at the beginning. So that’s a plus.

Great trail. You can tailor it to skill level. Either hike to just the lookout point, or continue down to the lake.

Absolutely amazing. Busy trail in the summer.

Best hike ever!!! We hiked it with all 4 of our kids ages10,7,5 and 3 (husband carried the 3yr old) we loved it!! It was early July so the end of the trail was closed due to snow. But still highly recommended!! Take water as it really warms up on the way back!

We hiked this on 10/17 and good golly was it beautiful! The park service closed the last 1.5 up to Upper Grinnell Lake due to bear activity, which was a bummer. We didn't see any four legged animals the whole hike and were the only humans on the trail. The highlight was definitely lunch on the dock at Josephine lake.

Such a pretty and peaceful hike. Great for those with less stamina or if you'd like to fit in a little hike. We were there before 10 AM and did not see one other person. Even though the trail was somewhat ice, it is completely flat, so was easy to traverse.

The road is still being worked on, but is open now. Road is pretty rough in areas. The side of the road is soft, there was a car that actually slipped off while we were up there. Large parking lot! Trail is almost all switch backs. We spotted 2 bears, a few pikas, and tons of chipmunks. Once at the top, the temp dropped and it was freezing! Prepare for wind!
Fall colors were amazing!

One of my personal favourite spots! Nature at its best! Hike was easy and rock climb was a fun challenge. We started this trail early evening and basically had it all to ourselves. Love. Love. Love. Would 100% recommend.

Even on an overcast day the trail afforded very nice views, especially from the southern bend of Emerald Lake. I extended the hike over Yoho Pass (nothing special) and continued to Yoho Lake (isolated and very pretty) before turning back. Unless you really enjoy a long uphill in increasingly deep snow the work/view tradeoff for heading out to Yoho Lake probably isn't worth the effort at this point in the season.

Hiked today the trail was icy in spots after the early snows. The trail was muddy in other spots, but passable. There are numerous spots to take pictures of the scenery.

Hiked Floe Lake today, Sept 29. Recorded 21km in about 5.5 hours, including short breaks. It snowed for some of the hike, but there was not much on the ground today. Right before the lake was a beautiful area with tons of larch trees, all bright yellow. Beautiful! Long hike, but worth the grind. We’ll be back next summer to spend the night.

Really pretty. Did the trail with wife and three kids. First part, to Taggart Lake, was lead by a park ranger, which was awesome. Great variety of scenery along the trail, with fantastic views of Grand Teton throughout.

this trail was like walking in literal heaven. absolutely beautiful landscapes, adorable mountain goats. highly recommend! if you'd like to do the whole trail, which goes down to the lake (and then you walk back to where you started) I recommend giving yourself a full day because it is long and you'll probably wanna chill at the lake for an hour or two before heading back.

Easy walk to a beautiful beach!

This was the highlight of our month of hiking and camping Montana! The hike around Lake Josephine is beautiful and flat but you will pay your dues in the last 2 miles which are an uphill grind. I made a video of the hike and my wife detailed her experience if anyone is interested: https://practicalvagabonds.com/grinnell-glacier/

We did this hike the 3 days after they reopened the pass to the visitors center. The entire trail was still snow covered and we didn't have crampons so that made it quite challenging. Saw many mountain goats both right on the trail and on the mountain side. The views were breathtaking!

Great hike. Had a grizzly bear with two cubs in there area , we got some great photos ( from a great distance). The snow was still melting creating some cool waterfall that were falling over the trail, definitely need to use some caution on this trail. be safe

Easy to moderate.

Absolutely stunning !! It has river, lakes, views, glacier.. The hike, the views, the glacier lake with ice floating at the top! Take rain gear if chance of showers, it comes in quick. Lots of wildlife, we saw a moose coming up to thw beach where we swam in a lake to drink..

We just did the hike around the lake as had a stroller and three year old in tow. Was beautiful and very quiet; we only saw a handful of people the whole way round even though there were a lot of tourists in the parking lot and on the bridge at the beginning taking photos.

Hiked 9/4/18 via the 8:30 boat round-trip and ranger-led hike, about 7 miles. Perfect pace for this 69-yr-old from Alabama in moderate shape. Great scenery despite high clouds covering the mountain tops. We saw big-horn sheep and later a moose family by the upper lake.
