A most wonderful hike, and a loop so no retracing. Magnificent view of the lake at the trailhead. Parking can be an issue on summer weekends. There are moose around, and they can be dangerous, but generally no problem other than the pleasure seeing them. The trail on the sunny side is wider and easier, but the darker and narrower other side is enchanting. Not difficult, but a few logs to cross over streams. Take water particularly in summer and keep dogs leashed because of moose.

Possibly my favorite short hike in Colorado. Please stay on the trail and out of the water so we can keep this trail open.

Hanging Lake was stunning today! Rather steep and rocky but definitely worth the views all the way up. I am not super fit or out of shape (somewhere in the middle) and I was able to do it without too much difficulty. Bring water and snacks!
Also, be sure to see Spouting Rock! It’s a quick trail right before you reach the top of Hanging Lake. It’s a gorgeous waterfall you won’t want to miss!

The slope was very steep but the lake was amazing!

Simple hike but absolutely gorgeous views of the Rockies and a nice stream/waterfall. Trail is well kept and would totally do this again given the opportunity.

Hike offered deep woods trail and nice views of the Monarch Lake. Went very early in the morning but barely saw any birds or other wild animals. Great trail for exercise.

Nothing difficult about this trail, suitable for most 4wd vehicles with only a handful of areas that require ground clearance. It’s short and easy enough to be perfect for someone getting familiar with off-roading or just looking for something quick to explore. The views at the lake are very nice and worth the trip. Would make a great place to pitch a tent for a night or two but you would definitely have company.

My wife & I arrived from MD yesterday and had not fully acclimated to the +8000’ altitude change, but did not want to waste the good weather. This 4.2 mi loop was perfect. Great views and enough elevation change to make it fun without over taxing our sea level lungs.

Beautiful view at 12000ft. Worth the short but out of breath stairs

Great trail, gorgeous views. We went on a Monday morning in late September, arrived maybe 9:30 and had no trouble with parking and trail was not too crowded. It's very steep but not otherwise difficult. Took 50 minutes going up for two moderately- in-shape 50-something women, but I can see how when it's more crowded it will take longer, as you will have to keep stepping aside for people going up or down. Worth the effort!

This trail and the ute trail are probably my two favorite trails ever. this trail is actually called the tundra communities trail. it has some beautiful rock/quartz formations but the best thing about it is being level with the clouds and watch the clouds roll over the weird landscape. its super eerie and beautiful. the moss and tundra plant beds are also beautiful and unique. its so colorful up close. its not a difficult trail but be prepared for the high altitude air if you arent used to it go slow stop and look around and enjoy the surroundings.

Very short hike. The falls are beautiful. There were a handful of people walking and climbing all over the rocks. Definitely worth the hike.

Too crowded, really neat, should be renamed to hanging pond

Trail etiquette does not exist on this trail, bunches of white people.

Not much distance and little bit difficult. Very rocky and need to make sure you have hiking boots. Hanging Lake is superb and worth a visit

Must do hike! We arrived early on a Friday morning in late Sept. & had no trouble with parking. It’s steep & our hiking poles made the hike up easier (didn’t use on the way down). Apple Watch, starting from parking lot logged 1.75 miles in 1 hour & 3 minutes. Clocked same time headed down, which includes more pauses for up-hill right away. Bring water & a small snack. The final section has railing with steep drop-offs, but very short distance & may only be a bit scary for those with a fear of heights.

Went up to Cascade Falls and around Monarch Lake. Beautiful trail, especially if you love horse poop! I clean up after my dogs!! Dodged more horse poop than rocks but otherwise well worth it.

Loved this hike! Note that the parking lot fills up quickly!! It was packed on Sunday when we went so we couldn’t go. Ranger told us to try back Monday or Tuesday! We ended up not getting back there till Thursday and it was packed but not full. Have patience circling for a spot!

The hike is great. Constantly going up, pretty views all around. Very rocky trail. The hardest part is right before you reach the lake! Gorgeous lake and sooo well worth the hike!!

Awesome views. Worth the 224 steps but old people were struggling. Takes you to 12,005 ft. Right next to Mt Chapin and Old Falls River Rd. See Colorado River headwaters. Fun place. Please stay on the trail. Saw a girl posing for pics in a Keep Off area. Encourage respect and rules.

A fun hike that is worth the time. Dress warm with the wind. Educational signs. Some fun rocks to climb at the end (optional). Great view of Mt Chapin and some of the Alpine lakes. Can see Longs Peak and Alpine Visitors Center. Please stay on the trail. I asked some visitors from China to please respect the signs for Keep Off areas. Let’s all help each other keep it nice for the future.

Great hike! We hiked this September 10th. Definitely worth the work to get to the top. I would say this is not an easy hike but not as hard as I had thought it would be. There are some difficult places and we just took our time so we didn’t have any accidents. I can see where if you try to go to fast in places you could end up hurt and hurt badly. I would highly recommend poles for stability in places.

Great trail! Good rated trail for all hiking abilities (I wore Chaco’s and casual clothes).

Although it is a very high traffic trail it is absolutely worth the hike! It is not necessarily a long hike but for someone who is just coming into elevation take it slow no need to exhaust yourself.

If you’re just in Colorado for a short time I 100% recommend this. #1: it’s one of the coolest lakes in all of Colorado #2: the Glenwood canyons are worth driving through to get to it.... one of the best stretches of Road in Colorado! Happy hiking! Be safe! BRING WATER!

Favorite!!

amazing hike :)

There are parking lots on both sides of the Falls area. This is not really a hike but more fun scrambling and bouldering expedition. We did manage to hike about a mile back into the canyon but beware of falling rock. It looked very dangerous. Lots of fun for kids 8+ years old as far as climbing.

Really a perfect little hike to an amazing water feature.

Great hike but not for older people, people who live at sea level, and anyone who can’t climb over rock on steep hills. Challenging!! Good hiking boots and poles important!! And lots of water.

Great view

Walked this on 9/20. We hadn’t researched it so we didn’t know what to expect, but it was probably the highlight of our day on the Trail Ridge. It was incredibly windy and cold. We got to the top and enjoyed climbing over the rocks up to the Memorial index. On the way down we saw a snow storm roll in. I thought it was rain coming towards us but it was snow pellets. Near white out conditions for about 15 mins. On our way back down a coyote crossed the path in front us, which was a surprise. We waited out the snow storm in the car. Really recommend, but prepare for the wind!!
