HikingGreat!

Tough hike but well worth it. Bear Lake is crowded, so hiking to Odessa gets you away from the crowds and has breathtaking views.

Exhaustive trail, hiked in 2018. Highly recommend going up from Bear Lake trailhead and coming back to the Fern Lake.

I love these awesome lakes. I have been hiking these lakes every year during the last 20 years. Today was very windddyy. Some sections have ice but no need of micro spikes, but trekking poles would help.

Little bit of snow and ice on the trail after two rivers. Manageable without spikes. Great views. Some decent elevation

HikingGreat!

Beautiful hike and nice to get away from the crowds at emerald lake. Did Bear Lake to Fern Lake TH and came across very few people between Bear Lake and Fern Lake (saw many more folks after fern lake). Great trail, well marked, beautiful views all to yourself.

Started at Bear Lake, hiked to Odessa Lake and Fern Lake. Ended at Fern Lake trailhead. Awesome views and sunny skies. No other hikers for the first three hours. Serene and slightly challenging at certain spots. Loved this hike! Worth It!!

Amazing trail with a large variety of scenery. We actually started at the Bear Lake Trailhead and went past Odessa Lake to Fern Lake, where we camped. The following day instead of looping back up to Bear Lake we just continued down the Fern Lake Trail, past Fern Falls, all the way down to the Fern Lake Trailhead. Then we caught the shuttle back to our car. I highly recommend this route! Our first day offered killer views of Notchtop Mountain and Little Matterhorn and Odessa/Fern Lake. Our second day was ALL downhill and had incredible autumn colors as it follows the creek.

A little challenging in areas but Lake Odessa is absolutely stunning! The walk in to the lake is breathtaking along the little creek. Wonderful photo opportunities along the trail. Must do!

Wished I'd brought my spikes for our early morning decent in the canyon from Helene Lake to Odessa Lake on Monday 9/14. Didn't do the shuttle and walked back up at about 11 and it had really softened. Melting quickly, should be a safer passage soon.

Hiking

Hiked Bear Lake to Fern Lake on Sunday 9/13. There were pockets of snow and ice particularly after Lake Helene but passable especially with poles. Trail was more crowded than I expected, but the weather was perfect. I would recommend this hike and plan on doing it again.

This is a point to point hike from the Bear Lake Trailhead to the Fern Lake bus stop where you can catch a shuttle back to the Park and Ride and then another shuttle back to Bear Lake. There are 4 destination worthy lakes on the hike - Bear, Helene, Odessa, and Fern plus Fern h falls and several cascades. At the apex of the hike in about 3 miles there is an overlook providing awesome views of Notchtop Mountain, Grace Falls, Lake Helene and Fern Lake. The remainder of the hike is downhill.
