Great beginning trail for snowshoeing! We went from the Bear Lake trailhead to make the trip a little longer, and it was beautiful and peaceful!

Snow/ice today and awesome looking.

Well kept easy trail to hike or snowshoe

Well worth the trip. It was a big snow day which made it almost the perfect day to do this. We backcountry skied. Snowshoes would also be doable. It would be impossible to use only hiking boots and crampons on this trail today as the snow was too deep and powdery. We were on the trail 4 hours and made it 5 miles total (2.5 miles out then back). Did not make it all the way to finch lake. Even though we were unable to complete the out and back, there was still plenty of beautiful forest to see. Not many views, but plenty of evergreens. There was not any other people on this trail today. The parking lot was filled with snow. A full sized SUV would be needed to park there. I have a small SUV and was able to get it into the driveway of the lot and pulled it off to the side. I recommend that you drive to this trailhead in a 4-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires.
Overall, this is a good workout for a backcountry skier. The trail is easy to follow and it would be difficult to get lost. The elevation gain makes it somewhat challenging but not overly burdensome. There are a significant number of rocks/small boulders on the trail. This did not become a problem, but does requires that skiers beware.

Really pleasant lake. Only thing is you can park right next to hit so there's no hiking needed to arrive at the destinations. None the less, super beautiful!

Waterfall is currently iced up and slow flowing. Not one of the most exciting destinations to visit amongst the Rocky Mountain trails. Would recommend traversing past and head over to Mills Lake.

Beautiful even in snow-packed conditions. The falls are mostly frozen over right now, but there’s lots of easy trails in the area. Good grips on shoes (or traction clamps for shoes) would have made it easier, but still fun! And dress warm!!!

I did this short hike in the snow on 11/4/18. It was pretty and peaceful - a perfect winter hike. We decided to go further, maybe another mile and a half. The hike kept getting prettier. I wouldn’t do this hike in the summer as it probably gets too crowded, but I am looking forward to hiking to Spirit Lake on this trail in spring or early fall.

3 couples hiked it together in November 1st , there were several inches of snow on the ground and it was snowing the most big lovely flakes . The sun was peaking through and shinning off the water . How could I not give it a 5 star review ? Easy access , nice beautiful easy hike . We loved it !

Beautiful roundtrip of Bear Lake. It was a snowy day so not many people on the trail, but it looks like it could be very crowded.

Very slippery in winter, wear good shoes with grip. Husband slipped three times. Beautiful falls.

Pretty easy loop around a beautiful lake. We found parking pretty easily. Part of the trail was packed snow/ice and very slippery. Enjoyed this loop on a beautiful day.

Easy trail around a beautiful lake. Steep in some sections but only for short distances. In late October the trail on the north side of the lake was clear to wet. The trail on the south side (no sun) was snow packed and icy. Slippery. Even in late October the parking lot was half full.

great little hike. the snow was so packed it was pretty treacherous! I slid down the ice more than a few times. still completely worth it! too bad there's no fishing in the lake :P. the trail was pretty packed with other hikers but that made it easier to take our time.

A great path walk/hike for families or people coming from a low altitude. We easily took our BOB double stroller because the path is paved and wide enough not to bother people with it. We had a great time watching baby beavers in the lake and throwing snowballs while walking. A great warm up to the bigger hikes in RMNP. Lots of parking and not too busy.

Arrived at 8am to a mostly empty parking lot on a chilly morning. Started the traverse around the lake with a very close encounter with a pair of moose! My 4 year old really enjoyed the lily ridge trail with endless climbing opportunities right off the main path....we spent almost 2 hours going off trail and had a blast. Enjoyed Lily Lake more than Bear Lake or Sprague Lake because of the variety offered by the lily ridge trail. Highly recommended if you have young kids.

My two sisters and I headed out on this trail because it was recommended to us as a good horse trail. No way would I call this a good horse trail . It is so rocky and the beginning is steep, narrow and rocky. on the second half , you run in to these bench rock steps that are as high as two feet. It was tolerable going up, but going down is a bear! We aren't wimps but this trail was just not fun. Anyone who called this trail easy is nuts!

Easy trail to a really pretty waterfall. Hiked it on a Thursday (10/18) and only saw a handful of other people. Took about 3 1/2 hours but we stopped and took pictures several times and hiked down and ate lunch on the rocks right beside the waterfall. If you want to take a fairly easy walk, this is a good one. Not much elevation gain and trail was very easy to follow.

My four year old loved the easy bouldering, but my wife didn’t love the spots we ended up in with our two year old due to lack of a real trail. Nothing dangerous but not quite what we expected. Would have been a blast without the baby and overall we still had fun. We will be back in a couple of years when both kids can enjoy all the way to the top.

Nice short stroll worth doing after you wear yourself out on the more challenging hikes in the area. Beautiful lake. The kids enjoyed running from marker to marker along the trail.

Not really a hike, but still worth the short walk around the lake for the amazing views. We got some great photos of three moose taking a stroll through the lake during our walk on June 27, 2018.

Better than expected. Easily accessible for the kiddos.

Great introductory trail to RMNP. Easy for all ages and abilities.

Nice warmup for the other trails at this trailhead. Easy walk around the lake, quite busy.

Simple, Easy, trail for anyone to do!
Peaceful views on the lake.

Loved the winter wonderland walk today, everything was snow covered. I'd recommend Microspikes for the boots, but you can easily do it without.

[See my photos marked "October 12, 2018"]
Idled on road for 20 minutes waiting to get into parking lot. VERY crowded today. Five stars is for restroom facilities, trailhead area, and railing on trail. Unfortunately the trail itself was so slick with ice that we didn't make it to the lake. One member of our party slipped and fell almost immediately on the trail, so we turned around and went back to our car. Trekking poles and/or Yaktrax (microspikes, not chain) would help immeasurably on this trail under the current conditions. It might not be so bad at noontime when the top layer is softened up a bit. Our attempt was at 5 p.m. and the trail was iced over.

Simple hike but absolutely gorgeous views of the Rockies and a nice stream/waterfall. Trail is well kept and would totally do this again given the opportunity.

It’s not an easy trail for me, an incline hike all the way to the lake. We went in the afternoon, so it was less crowded. What a beautiful and tranquil
place to see!

Upper and lower Copeland Falls are a short easy hike less than half a mile in. Calypso Cascades is about 2 miles in and is slightly more uphill. Both are beautiful!! We arrived at the trailhead about 3:30pm and there were several spots to park. If you hike past Calypso Cascades about another mile you'll find Ouzel Falls. Much steeper and took about another hour up. Beautiful!! Took us about 3.5 hours round trip.
