SnowshoeingOff trailSnow

RMNP has gotten a lot of snow in the last week but trail was pretty well packed about 75% of the way. Doesn’t necessarily follow actual GPS/summer trail, rather, goes up a creekbed to the Loch. I used snowshoes the last 25% and also to go across the lake. Had spikes but didn’t use them although they may have helped some. It was crazy snowy up at the Loch and views were limited but epic. Definitely need to come back in summer so I don’t fail again on Sky Pond.

Reviewing here as well, we also started at Bear Lake. First 2/3 of hike groomed and gradual incline, last 1/3 tough as the trail was primitive. Post holing will probably happen with the amount of snow on the trails. Beautiful and very scenic, worth finishing it out. Highly suggest crampons and poles.

Definitely needed spikes. Snow shoes to Loch lake would’ve been nice. The trail is not clear in some area towards the end. Very beautiful trail though.

Very fun trail! Moderate climb all the way to the top, with many switchbacks. Great views of the valley below and the big mountains of the park. Awesome summit but watch out for the chipmunks! They are hungry and not afraid to make their way to into your backpack!!

Beautiful views and amazing how this place looks very different each season. With fresh snow fall - lot of powder snow - although people hiking has flattened it. Highly recommend microspikes or snow shoes !

Arrived just before 9 am with plenty of parking left. Trail was packed snow, so leave the snowshoes in the car. Spikes helpful but not essential. Had the trail almost to ourselves on the way up, but there were several large groups on the way down, and the narrow trail made passing difficult. Lovely winter wonderland, and a great trail to avoid the crowds in other areas of the park.

I hiked this 4/17. No need for snowshoes. However, it was easy to slide. I would recommend micro spikes.

Glacier Gorge lot 1/2 full at 7:30am on Saturday, but conditions were perfect. Windy at the lake, which was still frozen solid. Nice snow pack was simple enough with spikes, but was advised to bring poles if continuing to Sky Pond.

Beautiful views at the summit, and Mountain View's are visible between the trees just about anywhere. I highly recommend micro spikes for the last 1.5 miles to the top.

Absolutely beautiful hike—got to the trail at around 8:00am—by the time of our descent the trail was pretty crowded. Saw lots of deer. Would recommend spikes, got icy about 1.5 miles up.

It was a great trail and the view at the end was well worth it! The last part of the trail was snow covered so spikes were helpful.

Beautiful! For those initiated to higher elevations such as myself, prepare to take your time! Having lots of layers was helpful with several later adjustments were needed up and back.

A beautiful moderate hike. Spikes and poles helpful, but not absolutely necessary. I was able to walk across the lake, but as the temps warm up, the ice will likely become thinner. Get to the parking lot early! There were only 2-3 spots left at 7:00.

Gorgeous trail! I was nervous because it was really windy in the parking lot but the trail itself wasn’t well protected most of the time. Beautiful views all the way up, easy to follow (though often narrow right now) trail. I wore traction the whole time and I’d recommend it.
