This is one of my favorite trails in the area! Varied terrain through Aspen forests with great viewpoints out over the Telluride valley and surrounding mountains. I would probably rate it as moderate-difficult rather than difficult.

A lot of steep climbing culminating in spectacular views!

Beautiful views of Telluride and a GREAT workout!

Beautiful and convenient hike if you are visiting Telluride. Tons of Aspens.

Such a beautiful hike with great views. Wouldn’t recommend going if it is your first hike in that altitude. Also it helps to go earlier in the morning to avoid some of the heat. To also help with the heat I recommend going to the left path and not the right because of a rough climb up and exposure to a lot of sun

Awesome hike. Scramble up the saddle and drop into island and ice lakes.

Hot and sunny. A steep climb and rock decent but all worth it. A great hike and workout.

Hot/sunny in the pm west to east, especially the beginning, but stunning and fun!

Good warm hike for harder hikes later in the week

Absolutely beautiful trail! We started on Jud Weibe (Aspen Street trailhead), then took a left at Deep Creek and shortly after that a right onto Mill Creek. Followed the path shown to the high point, into the meadow and across and then completed the loop on Deep Creek to end up back where we started. (There are other routes down as well.) Following that route the ascent was fairly steep in parts and the descent easy-going. Took about 8 hours at a decent clip so bring enough food and water. Lots of great views, alpine meadows, aspen forest, waterfalls.... The scenery is constantly changing, keeping things interesting. Good idea to take rain gear given unpredictable weather patterns (we hiked through rain for a while). The trail is well marked and easy to follow, a short stretch of scree to be navigated right after the high point. Highly recommend!

Really nice long hike. Several places with amazing views! Do the loop back down Deep Creek and Mill Creek. I logged 14.3 miles with the loop and the hike down was quite lovely. I can’t imagine going back the way I came. This hike as an out and back would be at least 16 miles. There is no parking for more than 2 hours at the trailhead. I parked on the street anyway and didn’t get a ticket.

I did this mountain biking. I had never been mountain biking before so this trail was very challenging and overwhelming. This was just because I was inexperienced. I was exhausted at the end but mostly because I was working hard and was also scared. Saw some experienced bikers pass us having a blast through the trail. Had some great views of the mountains.

I did this hike in mid July and the wildflowers were incredible! This hike has it all....amazing views, aspen groves, rivers, and wildflowers. This might be one of my favorite hikes in Colorado. It’s steady switchbacks the whole way up, the trail is well maintained and easy to follow. Definitely check this hike out if you are in the area!

Great hike and great fun. Moderate to difficult west to east but worth every bead of sweat.

Rode this trail with 17yr old son, and what a Great ride! First part is a little grueling with the climb, but well worth the effort for some great down hill biking. Recommend for Intermediate to Advanced riders only. Awesome views of Telluride.

Love love love this trail! Beautiful wildflowers, great views from high up and little traffic. I suggest starting on the mill creek trail then coming straight down the webbie.

One of my favorites as a local! I used it as a afterwork delight hike up the steep incline and run down. Incredible views of the town. Everyone is friendly and dog friendly. Plus it’s a loop and there are options for more hikes!

We started east to west and definitely hit the hardest parts first. Beautiful view of the city. A fun little hike.

lots of people on the trail. I'd recommend heading to the falls instead of doing the loop. and if you're scared of dogs this isn't for you; lots of unleashed dogs with no owner in sight.

Great views! Go west to east to get the most difficult part out of the way first I think. Steep but worth it!

Very enjoyable hike within walking distance of downtown Telluride. Nice views. Not crowded.

Did the loop with deep creek and it came in around 15 miles. The elevation gain is no joke for the first 3-4 miles and there are some spots in the middle where you're zig zagging switchbacks very close to the edge with a narrow trail. Overall great views and well worth it.

Beautiful views of Telluride

The start of the trail is accurate, and we drove (high clearance 4x4) up to a gate prior to the true trailhead.

Followed what seems to be an old mining/now USFS road all the way up past marshlands (past cairn-designated trail off to the right that shows on this app but is not named) into the basin before realizing we were actually on a local single track trail. Could not find the shown Swamp Canyon trail past this point - The single track turns back toward Ophir Pass and we wanted to go further up the basin to summit the pass and look over to Island Lake. So we bushwhacked up to the point where we ran across the previous cairn-designated trail we’d decided against.

Following this up to the pass, the last mile is loose scree. The scramble up and over the pass is exactly that - take a hard look at it! We spent over an hour getting up and down this short section and while the views are beautiful, it wasn’t exactly safe or designated route. There’s a reason the highlighted Swamp Canyon trail ends well before the summit of the pass!

Overall, beautiful adventure of a morning. Tons of wildflowers, columbine everywhere in the lower meadows, lots of waterfalls and creeks flowing.

Better with snow... just a dirt road!

So beautiful. With a lovely surprise just around the bend!

Tough but so worth it! Great views and easy access from downtown

Beautiful views. I recommend doing an out and back from the Lizard Head trailhead to the first summit- it is 7.5 miles round-trip.

Good view at the top but not a hike worth writing home about.
