amazing views

Started at 7:30am and finished before 10am. Like other reviewers, this is a busy trail. I likely saw about 100 other hikers but still really enjoyed it. Glad I started early. The trail is really well maintained.

The road to the campgrounds is closed due to the government shutdown, which made the hike longer and harder. But it was worth it. Once you hit the trail, the fun begins. We had an 8 year old boy and 6 yr old girl with us and they made it easily. You have to cross the creek a few times to get to the waterfall so expect to get a little wet. Dogs are allowed on this trail and we came across a number of people who let their dogs go leash-free...so be aware. I would definitely go back again. There is a bathroom at the campgrounds so plan accordingly. Bring some water because there weren’t any water fountains that we saw.

Great trail! You can really see the topography of the region from Inspiration point - even ships in the harbor in Long Beach. Make it a lolipop loop from the top of inspiration point. Take the pretty dirt fire road to Sam Merrill trail and make your descent through the forest. Super pretty and much gentler on the way down than castle canyon trail. You can see this connection on the map. Also, don’t listen to people on the trail that say it’s blocked. It’s not. They’re trying to go the wrong way. Check your GPS and look to the right;)

The trail was awesome but a little crowded. Lots of dogs too but all were behaved. Water is flowing nicely after all the rain we just had. You will need to park in the upper parking lot and hike down. The trails are maintained well and was very nice. I’ll go back again soon.

beautiful!! my 10 year old son did it with me and he loved it. micro spikes needed alot of snow and ice.

We have always loved this hike. Great from kids and pets

A great hike, with hard terrain and amazing views of LA at the top. Gets crowded on weekends, but there’s always street parking on Sunset. A local staple.

Heavy traffic! Long hike down hill. Nice view , lots of water in the creek. You need hiking stick especially crossing the creek back and forth..

A great moderate hike with gentle switchbacks up the mountain and back. Beautiful views of LA city and Catalina Island. This time of year some of the trails were so pretty lined with fresh green grass. Other areas were covered in loose rock so you really have to watch where you’re stepping to avoid rolling your ankle. A lot of traffic today. Loved the views and interesting history at the top.

My friend and I made it to the Hollywood Sign. During our hike, we got lost several times since the Park has many trails that lead to another. It is useful to use the default map and pay attention to it especially when there is a fork. Don’t pay attention to my route since I am not taking the fastest route. My friend and I kept choosing the wrong way; we didn’t reference the map much.

My main complaint (hence the four stars) is the lack of trail signs, which makes it hard to go the right way. We started at the Park Service Center, which is not the fastest route to the sign.

Dogs are welcome on a leash. I have a 1.5 years old German Shepherd and my friend had a 8 to 9 years old chihuahua mix. The chihuahua did get tired and had to be carried for the most difficult part (climbing up rocks and walking on wash). There was some points where my dog wasn’t on the leash because it was a tripping hazard for me. Overall, they did well. On the other hand, I do not recommend this for young kids.

Bring water and snacks (important if you get lost; make sure to fuel up).

Happy hiking.

Nice hike to start the day. Gets crowded around 8a on weekends. Go earlier if you want more alone time. I’d recommend this hike and will definitely do it again soon.

Due to government shutdown you have to park down the hill by the nursery. This adds 2 miles to the hike. Right now because of the heavy rain last week the water is really flowing and so beautiful! There are many stream crossings to get to the waterfall so be ready to get your feet and lower legs wet. We hiked with our dogs and children and it was a great time! Very beautiful hike and i highly recommend going soon to see this volume of water.

Great workout!! 2.5 miles up hill to the railway. Lots of cool things to see & really awesome views. On a clear day u can see the ocean. The only drawback is that it is very crowded. But overall it’s a Fun hike! Beware of the sun! Not a lot of shade at all... great in the cooler weather. Bring lots of water.

Nice walk. Mostly flat & paved. Very peaceful! Easy workout. Nice views from the dam. I saw a couple deer last time I was there ❤️

Great waterfall hike!! Easy 1 mile to Falls from camp ground. If u park in upper lot & take trail down it’s an extra 1.5 miles RT. Also lots of shade. Has options to add more miles on upper trailhead. Sunset Ridge can go on for miles...

Love this hike!! Beautiful views of the mountains & lots of shade on the lower canyons. If u go in the fall the colors are amazing ❤️

Good workout & nice view but super crowded! Not great... lots of horse poop on the trail. So, again Not great!

So definitely heed the warning and bring microspikes or full-on crampons if you plan on summiting during the winter. hiking poles are a must for me as well. It is significantly more challenging in the winter.

Very fun trail, it's up hill but you get great exercise and very nice views.

Views are great! It's best to head out before 6:30am to avoid the crowds.

Nice trail with wonderful views of LA. Too crowded, though. Get there early to find good parking.

Great trail! Awesome view at the top and many different areas with scenic views as you make your way up. Different routes can make this hike shorter or as long as you want. Good trail for beginners.

Snowy but passable for this visiting Wisconsinite. Nice summit views. Warm temps. I only needed a light jacket and headband. I started the route by passing through the ski area and finishing with Baldy Bowl. I only saw three other hikers before summiting. on the way down, I passed many hikers going the other way, easily numbering 50 or more. By the time I finished at 1pm, the parking lot was a mass of humanity, completely full with cars of hikers and skiers.

LOST kid's retainer. If seen/found, please post to let us know here. Otherwise, it was a great hike - beautiful views in all directions, especially of los angeles and ocean. Some puddles but nothing you can't easily step over/around.

First winter hike on this trail. Snowed all day long. I like snow covered Mt. Baldy than dry/hot summer hike. Weather is mild even in January here but still need to drive carefully to the trail head when it snows.

11/26/18 - Great hike with great friends. Love the history within the hike at Echo Mountain and the views at Inspiration Point were spectacular! We went on a Monday and had the summit all to ourselves!
