absolutely amazing trail. went in August and the water was still flowing. the hike was beautiful. didn't see a soul the whole hike. huge recommendation from me for a short hike.

Easy easy easy...decent redwood action, weak waterfall

So beautiful! A must see!

Absolutely stunning. True moderate hike. Give yourself more time than you think you need, though...you’ll wand to be able to really soak in the sights along this loop.

Beautiful, peaceful, easy hike! Well worth the drive back to the trailhead. My husband and I did this hike at 0900 and were the only ones around. Wear waterproof shoes/sandals as your feet will get wet. They filmed a scene from The Lost World Jurassic Park here if that excites you as well.

A beautiful hike! My wife and I carried our lunch in our packs, and ate just after we got to the falls; an easy hike at that point. We decided to finish the entire 2.5 mile loop. Be warned! The last 2/3 of the hike is much more difficult, and--VERY important-- there is NO cell phone coverage in the area. I would upgrade this hike to above moderate for the entire loop; fairly easy for the hike to the falls. The Redwoods are spectacular, (better than LBJ Grove)! Oh yeah, I did not see even one Trillium; they must bloom at a different time of the year.

We did it in about 6 hours with an 11 and 15 yr old. Definitely doable but its a long trail and some challenging vertical especially after 10 miles of hiking ... so bring food and hydration. The description doesnt do the beach leg justice. Suggest doing the Irvine leg first, exiting Fern Valley to the beach and hiking south along/in the water to the Miner Ridge trail head. There is a campground near the Miner entrance with nice bathrooms and even a shower. Start early, take lunch and swim suits maybe and hang out on the beach. This is gorgeous California coastline. We spent 30 mins just hanging out - wish it was more. Clean up at the campground and finish the Miner Ridge leg.

Great Hike! You will experience The Redwoods, High up Ocean-views, Prairie, Marsh , Fern Canyon named because of ferns growing on the 50-foot high walls, through which runs Home Creek (Fern Canyon recognized as a World Heritage site and an International Biosphere Reserve)and The Ocean ..... We seen Roosevelt Elk (Largest species of Elk family) it was amazing with his brown velvet giant antlers . You have to look closely because when they a feeding they blend with the tree branches...It took us about 8 hours to hike back to car, we took our time for picnic and sauntering

Nice trail. Went around 6pm. Was greeted in the end by a little brown bear. Really scary when hiking alone. But I calmly walked by and it didn’t come towards me. I was by bridge view the elk.

Beautiful hike! The waterfall is very small but there are endless blackberries!

Astoundingly beautiful, even though well trafficked. Easy, even for older, less active folks. I suggest water shoes, you'll get your ankles wet unless you can cross the shallow river/creek on a log (easily done if you have someone with you to hold your hand). So worth the drive on a very narrow, sometimes dirt road riddled with blind turns. Loved it!

amazing to hike such great sights!

Beautiful. Great short hike. Only downsides are that access is 8 miles down a bumpy dirt road, and there are a lot of people. At least 30 cars in the parking lot for a 1-mile loop hike.

Fun area! Little crowded but so worth the sites!

Beautiful hike, I split it for two days to really enjoy both parts separately. It really gives you a variety of different forests!

beautiful a must see easy hike except to get wet feet

Gorgeous fern canyon, lush and moist.
Super easy hike, try to go early or late as it tends to attract large groups and families. Well worth the crowds though. It’s a unique canyon.

Beautiful long hike through lots of different types of wilderness. The two stretches on Miners Ridge and James Irvine are the best parts.. hiking through the redwoods. There are a few steep sections, but they are fairly short. Fern Canyon was really neat, but they didn’t have the foot bridges up yet by late June, so your feet will get really wet if you try to go in too far, which is too bad. It would’ve been neat to see the entire thing. We ate lunch on the beach but opted not to hike it so we wouldn’t miss the turn in at Fern Canyon.

Solid! A little crowded.

Interesting mostly because you are hopping on rocks and logs most of the time. Recommend wearing flip flops or wellies, not hiking shoes.

Go early and you’ll have entire trail to yourself

Definitely recommend if you have a full day at Redwood. Gives you a full experience of the park, from giant redwoods to the coast. Mostly shaded hike (except coast part). If you decide to hike the beach part close to the water, it’s easy to miss the campground. We accidentally walked an extra mile— but the coastal views made it worth it. Start early and you’ll have the whole trail and foggy forest to yourself. Be ready to walk across makeshift bridges at fern canyon (or get your feet wet). Super fun trail!

Beautiful trail, especially after initial ascent is done. Saw traces of bear and blooming rhododendrons. And absolutely no people! Some parts we very narrow with high grass and bushes on the sides, long sleeve is recommended.

This is a long trail that has a lot to enjoy. My guess is that this is rated hard due to the distance, not the technical difficulty of the trail. There are definitely some uphill parts but they're gradual. It is very secluded until you reach Fern Canyon. Fern Canyon is a huge draw, families and kids everywhere. But sooo beautiful that is worth the crowds. I highly recommend this trail to anyone who is interested in a 6 hour hike.

What a beautiful hike, I went the full loop with my cousin and mother and it was a blast. Tons of wildlife, trees, and adventures await anyone who might be looking to do this hike! I vlogged the whole thing, you can check it out on youtube! --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGjE49vslpU

great warm up or beginner trail , or for older folks and kids .. or those family memebers who arent supoer into the woods lol .. get out here they'll fall in love .. very easy trail , well maintained with lots to see and enjoy

love this park , every trail here is a blast !! can go wrong ,...this one is a great overall coastal redwood experience.. easy miles too , for most ,not a ton of elevation change , ground is soft , contours well and amazing views , so miles roll by ...

gotta love waterfalls , easy trail , great little spot

Short but gorgeous trail. Shoes got wet as most of the trail is through a river at the bottom of the canyon (ankle-deep water)
