Super fun

Easy quick hike with a couple of great over look spots and picnic tables right on one. Great for children and dogs.

The battlefield area didn’t do much for me but nice hiking trails. Easier trails with nice hike along the Potomac.

Fun walk around the lake, easy for beginners. I walked around the lake and it took me a little over an hour. Love it!

The area is pretty. Trails are fairly easy with minimal elevation gain. It can be muddy in places after it rains. Several stream crossings on the orange trail. Trail map and trails themselves aren't well marked - some have the blazes and then when you get into the cemetery area where all of the trails converge, the trails have names which are not indicated on any map. There is a port-a-potty in the parking area.

Did not do trail because it cost $3 a person to get to the trail

I would disagree with the rating being “easy.” I’ve run many trails and am an avid ultramarathoner and trail runner and I’d rate this as moderate and very enjoyable.

My go to Trail when I need to get out!

Nice, shaded walk. It's a loop, so half of the hike will be pretty flat/downhill/easy, while the second half heads back uphill and is challenging. Picnic tables along the way for lunch, and not heavily trafficked. We brought our dog and she loved it.

-Overview-
I liked the diversity and length of the trail. I ran the trail in a little under 30 min. The terrain made the journey extremely fun (much better than a paved trail). I really enjoyed the sounds of the wildlife while running alongside the lake too! The weather was a little muggy and hot but the shade provided some relief from the sun. This will be a great run in the Fall.

-Parking-
You can park in Seneca State Park. The fee is $3 for MDers and $5 for out of staters. It is difficult to find parking elsewhere but doable if you wanna be cheap like me ;)

Very pretty and easy. The first part is along the river then you loop around to follow the Bootlegger’s Trail and Madison ‘s Escape to the parking lot. Some uphill walking but nothing strenuous. Beautiful views of the river and I saw a family or deer.

Great trail and hike, but the mapped loop was not all the orange trail, some of it was blue and some red blazes. Lots of intersecting trails here so I’d suggest having your phone well charged to navigate!

Though the trail is serene, the markers AND maps to get you there are dreadful. There are too many trails without blazes or signs and it makes following a map difficult. Even using real time GPS with Google had me second guessing. There was trash in areas. I’m not sure we’ll go back.

For the immediate area, this is as good as it gets for a trail run if you don't mind running loops. Access to water and restrooms right near the trailhead parking lot which is tucked away behind the carriage museum. Good place to practice fairly steep climbs and descents. Not too busy.

Solid trail. Intersects the trails that lead to the overlook at the top of sugarloaf.

Great short easy hike with my daughter out of a whim. Will be back and take longer path next time.

Lots of inclines on the Blue trail. I would rate this harder then moderate. I was sucking a lot of air on those steep inclines.

Hiked the orange trail with our 3.5 year old, he had no problems or issues at all. Fun trail, fairly secluded considering we went on a weekend mid-July. Mostly shaded. Unfortunately not much of a view at all, but the historical aspects that you come across are rather interesting.

My favorite local trail. I go on trail runs here and find the difficulty to be moderate. One steep hill. Sometimes slippery after rainy days. Not busy on weekdays.

Gorgeous views all around. Great place if you want to just go for a hike on your own or take the entire family. Two big fields for dogs to run in if you want to take your dog. There was a place where you could rent a row/paddle boat if you so wished. There were a lot of people fishing and a lot more spaces for it than were being used. Overall a very versatile location. However, if you don't like running into child day camps I wouldn't recommend doing this one while school is out.

This is a delightful trail through the woods, with a couple scenic overlooks over the surrounding countryside. I especially liked the ferns. There was a particularly large and impressive rock formation at one spot, like a granite wall 20' high. Most of the trail was easy to walk on. Some was a little rocky - lots of stepping-stone sized rocks jutting out of the dirt, which isn't too bad but you have to watch your step and it slows you down somewhat. There were just a few muddy sections, and only one where it was bad enough that your shoes would sink in halfway, but it was short (maybe 10' long). Realize it had rained most of the day before. The beginning climbs relatively steeply (a 300 ft climb according to the map) - the only part I would call strenuous. You can pace yourself if it's hard for you. Going down that section would probably be a pain, so I would do this loop clockwise. I did this trail because I wanted a hilly workout, but it wasn't quite that. Much of the trail was dirt and didn't require much concentration, so you could just take in the woodsy beauty. All in all, a very pleasant trail that's pretty easy for anyone with good balance and not a total couch potato.

Really good hike!! Terribly marked on trails and where things are. We got lost at one point. But overall good views and plenty to see!

Compared to Raven Rocks this is an easy trail. However if you’re looking for a nice trail and don’t feel like hiking up and down a rollercoaster I’d recommend balls bluff. It also has a beautiful view of the Potomac river and many trials as well as history.
