Super fun in winter!

Hiked today. Brief review: nice hike. Consistent climbing. After the turn off at about 1.7 miles, the next mile is up a wash. Probably the most consistent effort of the hike. After that, the rest of the climb is easier (relatively). Turn off was easy to find. No mud today. It’s likely too cold for mud now.

I did this hike as a prep hike the weekend before I did Mt. Whitney. It was my first time doing it even though I have hiked all over the Wasatch Front. I was amazed at how majestic this hike is from beginning to end. It's a great hike to do in the late fall and early winter because it starts at a relatively low elevation compared to most other hikes near Salt Lake City/Sandy, Utah. As such there was little to no snow on the trail. I did it in about 5.5 hours (around 3 hours up, 2.5 hours down).

On the last quarterish mile scramble to the summit, I got misdirected and started ascending the wrong way. Luckily, a dude set me in the right direction (thanks Stu!) and I got to the summit to take in the preposterous views of Salt Lake Valley. Early on in the hike, it also forks and one prong of that fork goes down the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. I walked down that trail for a few hundred meters before I realized my error (thanks to the AllTrails app).

I highly recommend this hike.

This was an awesome hike and climb, many off shoot trails and if you go up the peak opposite provides a mix of high incline hiking and moderately difficult rock climbing.

Loved every second, on the way up at least

Such a beautiful hike! The leaves were just turning colors and there was a lot of shade.

Are you in shape? Let’s find out! Total workout! Down hill in fall sucks due to all the toe grabbers covered with leaves and steep trail . Bring a sack lunch and water.

This is a pretty standard trail despite the “hard” rating. It’s not bad except about 2/3s up there is a stretch of road that is about a quarter mile long that is uphill over loose head sized rocks and it’s difficult to get up but if you just lock in you center diff and keep it steady then you will be fine. You do need 4wheel drive for this one but there is a southern trail up the mountain if you turn right at (40.1707832, -111.9350329) on redwood road south of Saratoga springs it is a little rockier but is can make it up with 2wd. Up top here are some aspen groves and a bunch of trails. Have fun.

The trail, where it diverges from the Rock Canyon trail, is not marked. Use the map in this app to make sure that you make the left turn at the y in the trail. It is steep, but winds through aspen and other deciduous forest. There were flocks of robins, other small birds, and deer in the woods. Wish I had been here a few weeks earlier when the aspen were bright yellow.

The upper part of the trail is steep and was very muddy from snow melt. The view from the peak is worth the effort.

Awesome trail had a little trouble getting to the top with my ram 1500. If anybody makes it to the top with the larger truck please post a picture of it so that I could drive my truck up there to the top.

Spectacular view of the SLC valley! A great Halloween hike!
Dress warm ❄️

Holy crap what a trail!!! Very rewarding and yet hard , not for the fainted heart! Did this hike on Halloween day, you may see snow towards mile 3 once you get to first summit it’s all dried! Lot of people on the trail. Made it to top in 3 hours plus about half hour for breaks and picture takes, coming down was also a little challenging because of the snow that melted and now it was slushy, def hiking poles . Coming down took me 2 hrs.
Layer up as it’s very cold on the scramble area if sun is not out. Happy hiking!

This is a really tough hike in the snow. We went on Sunday 10/28 and from about mile 3 onwards it was all in snow. We'd tried on Thursday and had only got as far as the meadow as the winds were so strong we couldn't even see our own tracks and couldn't find the trail. We managed to summit on Sunday but from the saddle to the hut and back again was very windy and very sketchy. If you've never done this before (which I hadn't), it's definitely not for the faint-hearted. Once over the saddle, the drops are very very steep and, I thought, very very scary. The views, however, are spectacular and the trail was pretty easy to follow. The whole thing took us 10 hours as it was slow going in the snow, so we came out in the dark. Be prepared and stay safe!

So glad I made the hike..... Gorgeous scenery and perfect timing for the sunset!!

Favorite hike to get some headspace!

Went on a Sunday, late October. Many climbers and hikers. Made it to overlook and returned before dark. Lovely hike.

Snow is all gone as of yesterday. Incredibly steep but rewarding trail! The scramble wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Have shoes with good grip!

The water fall has dried out , but it was nice and easy hike . I enjoyed it itself

Perfect low elevation hike while the weather permits. No snow on the trail nor at the top, which is why it was perfect for this time of year.

I absolutely love the beauty of this hike! I went in mid October and the leaves were stunning. I didn't make it to the top on account of the time, but plan on it very soon.

Well worth it! The views are outstanding! We consider ourselves pretty fast hikers, but this is a continuous incline that feels like you're on a stair-master at the gym. Roughly 7 miles round trip took us 5.5 hours total (4.5 hours moving 1 hour of breaks and pictures). We're not "climbers" and we had no problem with the "scramble" after the saddle. October 27, 2018 no snow on the trail.

A word of warning: 3.5 hours into my hike all my credit card companies sent fraud alert texts to me. My car was broken into and the bad guys took all my cash and credit cards. I have been told by a friend that this is unfortunately common when you park in the parking lot. The advice is to park on Wasatch Blvd. where there is plenty of traffic passing by, and not in the parking lot. Went on October 26, and we wore shorts, it was so nice. Brisk but not too cold, and it is quite steep so we were plenty warm.

Beautiful hike! Lots of scrambling up the rocks

Very steep and quite the calf workout. Legendary view and if you go at night, it's great to stargaze while laying on the Y.

We hiked this over Labor day weekend. The views and wildlife we saw were totally worth the hard hike. It was amazing!

As of today the snow has 99% melted leaving nothing but suffering for that last mile as you go. straight. up. forever. It's

Pretty sure couple of the ratings on here didn’t go to top. Hiking into the canyon for first mile is a trail, not a hike. :)

However, the next 1 1/2 miles are super steep. Bring at least 70 ounces water if in summer. Also in spring and summer this is SUPER overgrown at top. More overgrown than most hunting trails I go on. This is way better in fall just FYI.
