NICE TRAIL ..NEEDS BETTER SIGNS TO LET YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AT, ALTHOUGH YOU CANT GET LOST..watch YOUR STEP ,LOTS OF ROCKS TREE ROOTS AND HIDDEN SMALL TREE STUMPS .ABOUT THE SIGNS THERE ARE SO MANY TRAILS GOING THIS WAY AND THAT ITS CONFUSING TO WHAT TRAIL YOU ARE ON.

Amazing trail to go on.

Good trail with nice views.

Nothing wrong with it...just not memorable from all the ones we have done. Hard to find trailhead from parking area.

Nice trail man.

Great area for hiking. Unfortunately the lack of trail markers caused me to hike 15 miles instead of the 13 that I expected. So glad there was no snow today or I may still be there! Most of the trail is easy except one area called "the stairs", so I believe it should be categorized as "moderate", not "difficult". I'll definitely use this trail again.

Cool trail with lots of historic sights

Very pretty trail! Fort ruins were pretty!!

My favorite trail in Eastern Missouri. It has every terrain and elevation you can think of. From the low wetlands that flood after rain to mountain climbs at 20* of angle. Amazing.

I just hiked this trail in the last week of November and it was very pleasant. It was midweek and I still came across several hikers and about 10 mountain bikers during the day.

This is the third time this year that I have hiked the entire Lost Valley Trail. I feel that hiking it clockwise is the easiest as most of the two-track road sections are then downhill and mostly on the 2nd half of the hike.

Also, the Carbonite mileage markers are all laid out for viewing in this direction. There are markers every half mile and the trail is easy to follow even while covered with leaves.

When starting out, I also prefer to follow the Little Femme Osage Creek which is the "old way" of hiking this loop. When you reach the first Carbonite sign with 2 arrows pointing right for "Lost Valley Trail" and "Short Loop," you instead bear off on the unmarked road to your left.

This keeps you along the creek and you'll meet back up with the marked trail around the 1.5 (?) mile marker. This is also the route shown in the book, "St. Louis: 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles."

Good birding here, mostly flat and well-kept!

Very pretty...just a little snow on the grow and lots of beautiful leaves

Lovely gravel trail around the youth facility. When passing the school building bear left immediately and go through the stone gates. Climb the 118 steps to get your floors.

Nice little place to go for something more local

beautiful fall variations of color during this time of year.

I really like the trail, the history, and the grand staircase! Just make sure to follow the map on here because it was really easy to get confused.

Would have given it a 5 star but poorly marked. Markers are only every mile. A simple blaze system would eliminate this. Started at the West end. The first half mile I was off trail and had to back track and then drove to Lone Elk lot to restart. Hiking rated difficult but only moderate at best. Completed the entire 13 miles plus. Will retry. Positives: very few on trail, peaceful, hills.

The only sign was something like "trail parking." The rest was a guessing game. Somehow we ended up on the main road but if we had extra time, we would have explored more. Signs, however, definitely would have helped. Still plan to go back to try to find the rest of the trail (where the historic site and steps are).

This is the best trail in the state. I have hundreds of miles here running, cycling, walking etc. plus they have restrooms near. Love Forest Park Forever!

Fairly easy historical walk. Great scenery. Heavy infestations of Copperheads. Really need to watch where you step.

great as always! lotta vegetation creeping up on the paths + fallen trees. also be on guard for bikers hauling butt thru some very thin trails at some points. No ticks at this time but plenty of pesky gnats + flies.

It was a beautiful trail, but poorly and confusingly marked. Even using the map here on Alltrails, somehow I wound up only going 2.3 miles. I suspect I missed a turn somewhere. More flashes, like in the state parks, would be helpful--

Nice trail.. NOT USER FRIENDLY... SIGN NOT VERY CLEAR... Will definitely do it again when I have more time.... I seen the Forts and Steps.. I DIDN'T do the steps this time BUT NEXT TIME THE STEPS IS A MUST !!!!! #Fun and Fitness with Miss B @stlhappyhourfitness

Very safe during the day. Family friendly. Love forest park!

Love this trail! Well marked, but I did get confused and ended up on the Hamburg Trail over half way through. I retraced my steps and took a right to follow the electrical lines and BAM! I was back on the trail. Over all, lots of bikers and switchbacks, but that kept me on my toes and interested. The perfect hike for my pup and I! Beautiful scenery, streams, and weather. Bring plenty of food and water for the both of you; you’ll be out there for awhile :)

Beautiful hike, great views at the top and along the bluff, mostly shaded too!

Was a beautiful trail. If your new to the area this is a great trail to get out to; cold water creek is really nice and feeds to the Missouri River from right there. Have fun!
