Enjoyed the scenery and walking in the snow. When the app says the trail has heavy traffic that’s an understatement. It was like Walmart on Black Friday with one lane in and out of the sno-park because of so many cars parked on the side of the road. People and dogs everywhere; like the house chaos of Home Alone except outside.

The snow is too compact to actually snowshoe for realz. Just did it for funz!

Difficult!!! Thick snow, it was raining, view is worth it!

Beautiful hike! Perfect weather beautiful lake and Mt Rainier in full view!

Great little hike. Easy to get to, plenty of parking and the trail is packed so it’s easy to navigate. Fresh snow fell so all the trees are coated and the lake is gorgeous. Definitely worth the drive from Tacoma.

Came prepared for the snow, wasn't expecting all the rain. Despite only having water-resistant clothing (and being soaked-to-the-bone when done), this trail was perfect for a quick, easy, and beautiful snowshoeing fix! From the road, it was about a half mile walk to reach the pond. Quite a few people out making the trek to the pond, but had the trail around Gold Creek Pond completely to ourselves. Gorgeous views and plenty peaceful. Only issue to report has been addressed by other reviewers. There were a lot of folks with dogs out there and a lot of waste left behind scattering the trail up to the pond.

Nice, easy loop to break in some new snowshoes. Fairly crowded and the messy parking situation notwithstanding, it's an ok way to enjoy some the snow and mountains.

Good easy to little moderate hike with view of river and waterfalls. Waterfall was gushing with water. Enjoyed soaking in mist water at upper Lookout view point.

Nice hike with a great view of the falls. Trails were muddy 2/3 in, but worth the walk. Pup enjoyed too.

Beautiful trail, currently just covered in snow. Unfortunately on our way back down from a couple day hike, it looks like the trail is now closed for the season. We had to remove, and put back, barricades to get my car out of the trailhead.

This hike starts out really steep and you wonder if you'll ever make it, but it's fairly short so by the time you get done, you're like oh, that's it? The app said there was a view, and there wasn't, but it's really pretty scenery all the way up and down. (trickling streams, bridges, mossy boulders, ferns galore)

Easy hike with great views. Go early - before 8am for least crowds, good light and a run.

Was looking for any easy hike to enjoy the PNW and the snow. Wasn’t too crowded when we started but more people arrived mid day. Some spots were icy so we stayed to the side of the trail. As a dog owner of two, I find it sad to see other dog owners not picking up after their dogs.

Amazing hike, not too difficult even in the snow. Wen tin Dec.2,2018. Microspikes/crampons definitely help in the icy spots. Weren’t too many good view points at Talapus Lake but kept going to Olallie Lake where it was more open and offered great view points of the lake. Would love to see how it looks in the summertime as well.

Beautiful little hike on a beautiful day! I wasn’t expecting such an awesome view of Rainier within the first hour of the hike. And then Red Mountain which is very unique. Of course the actual Katwalk goes without saying it was truly stunning & unique.

Sadly, two days after we had done this trail there was news that someone had fell. So be careful out there everyone! Happy & safe hiking...

A moderate hike with waterfalls, views of the valley, and a lake. We went in November and there was little snow. You'll have to go later in the season for consistent snow. It was very cold at the top though! And a bit slick...

Hiked this trail about 10days ago. Largely clear of snow but icy parts around the top of the pass so microspikes or poles would be helpful. The lake was not frozen over when we visited but I suspect it will be soon.
Lovely scenery along the way with the waterfalls. Was perfect for a sunny November day.

Busy trail on a Sunday, but the views of the river and falls were well worth it.

on Twin Falls Trail

A good 3.7 mile hike round trip to the Twin and Upper Falls. The trail is well maintained and its a good workout as the trail is inclined for the most part. Be prepared for a number of steps. Good resting spots and a nice bridge to view the falls. I rated the trail 4* since there wasn’t anything too scenic or breathtaking sceneries at the end of the trail or on the way. Good workout and a refreshing break if you are looking for a quick drive from Seattle.

I came out for novice snowshoeing and was disappointed to realize that not only was this location VERY crowded with loud children and off-leash dogs, there was someone flying a very loud drone over and over the lake. The trail itself would be an alright paved loop, but the mediocre scenery coupled with the overt lack of courtesy by others on the trail made this a very lackluster experience. This was like driving 40 miles to have the same experience I'd have in a crowded city park. I absolutely would not come here again.

Mission was to find snow..didn't check trail just started hiking. Definitely didn't realize the distance of the trail. Accomplished half the trail, basically the day beat me. Need to do more training, the elevation was a bit of a challenge for me.

beautiful, just very busy trail!

Moderate and specifically the first mile or so is broad and well maintained. Snow level dropped to estimated 3700 ft, so by the time you hit Talapus lake the trail was getting pretty slushy and muddy. Bring your good hiking boots and microspikes for the return trip.

My husband and I hiked the trail on Thanksgiving day and was caught in a snow storm. Dropped about 8" of snow on top of the already deep snow. The Katwalk was very windy and icy so we decided to turn around and not chance it. We hiked back to the trail head as it got dark. Beautiful day!

Mason Lake trail is a wonderful hike. No snow or ice on the road. We enjoyed the waterfalls, even green trees, Mount Rainer view on the way up. No so much traffic, the forest is nice and quite. The Lake view is stunning. The hike is much easy than we expected.

Great hike but definitely not an easy hike. Incline most of the day with little switchbacks to change up the hike but the lake and views of Rainier make it totally worth it.

I did this hike 2 months ago. Trail is well kept. Pet friendly and just gorgeous spot to visit.

Did this hike today and it was very very nice!!! A little muddy, but that’s ok. Very pretty peaceful hike only saw a couple others on the trail. It’s worth it to hike the extra mile to the second lake. It was fairly easy for the most part. A couple spots had your heart pumpin, but other than that it was very mild. The sounds of the water were so calming and it was very well maintained!! Had a great time!!!’
