Excellent mild hike. Good for groups of differing levels and capabilities. Parking was crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

Great views. Brought my 13, 11 & 6 year old. A bit long for them but they made it. Beautiful hike

great hike for beginners and family time! Dogs are welcomed and the views at the top are worth the work

The views on this hike are amazing. Make sure at this time of year you bring proper gear. Sheer ice in places made it extremely slippery coming down

Excellent hike. Snow packed so very slippery in places. At the top is beautiful...50+ degree weather was perfect.

Other reviews mention the trail isn’t well-marked, but it’s not terrible. I got a little lost, but I didn’t go far before realizing I needed to retrace my steps. Trail is fairly well-trodden.
Views at the top are absolutely amazing.
From car to car took me four hours, but I am still acclimating and it definitely slowed my pace. Will definitely be doing this one again!

Nice trail, not far from homes. Good, steep ascent. Added Red Rocks trail to make for a 4.5 mile hike.

It’s short but a very fun and rewarding workout. Great views from the top. Hop on the Switzerland trail at the trailhead if you want to add on some mileage.

Better than expected. Easily accessible for the kiddos.

Great introductory trail to RMNP. Easy for all ages and abilities.

Awesome views and loved that you can such great scenery within a few miles hike.

Nice hike for the whole family (including dogs). Short uphill climb to the glacier and a great view, you can spend more time hanging out or walking up and around the glacier if you want. Parking lots are a little rocky and have a $5 fee.

If you make it this far, it’s a no brainer to go all the way to emerald lake. The lake is frozen over but still beautiful!

Went in for a hike on Thursday 10/18. Trail was nearly empty and in great condition. For being such a quick drive from Denver, it’s hard to beat. I would recommend going down Chavez right away otherwise you go uphill at the end

Beautiful views from the top. Easy hike, 1.5 hours round trip with about 10 minutes the summit.

The trail is beautiful. The day we went, it had snowed earlier in the week, then partially melted, then absolutely deep-freeze froze, then it was super slippery. Our group could not continue to Emerald due to the slow ascent and descent. Those who had some sort of trail traction blazed past us, safely and not really impacted. Do yourself a favor and go get yourself 1 pair for you and 1 for your ill-prepared friend, so that you both can blaze up and down the trail. You don't have to get them from Amazon; buy locally if you want, but they are less than $20/pair and essentially make a difference of whether or not you can hike that day. https://www.amazon.com/Yaktrax-Walk-Traction-Cleats-Walking/dp/B01LJ6FX3C And each of my kids is getting a pair for Chrismas this year. Lesson learned.

Good description of trail and views. Mid October was very nice. Not too warm. Trail could’ve been marked better.

Fabulous views as you go up, and it's definitely worth it to scramble up to the top. The trail had heavy traffic though, making it not as peaceful as I would have liked. With snow on the trail, the traffic really packed it in, making it fairly slick.

This is our go to hike for visitors. It is easy enough for children and the views are exquisite.

Arrived around 9:30am Saturday morning and parking wasn't more than 5 cars although once we got back to the car around 11:30 there was a line of cars and more people. There was snow most of the trail and icy towards the last portion of the trail, but was an awesome hike and fantastic views!

Lovely hike close to Denver. Did it counterclockwise in 3 hours (a moderate pace for the first half and slow for the latter half). Parking was easy at 9a on Saturday and there were a nice number of people— enough to not feel alone if something happened, but not busy. Very peaceful.

nice short hike

awesome views

great views

Great hike! Loved everything about this one- smaller distance but you still get a nice workout in. As others have stated, the view at the end is amazing. I enjoyed the trail as well- lots of trees and openness. Only saw one other person on the trail today- little bit of snow off to the side.

Awesome short hike with an amazing view! The view at the top is worth it. As of 10/12/18 there is a couple inches of snow and the top by the ridge is SO windy so be prepared.
Limited parking, we were the second car there at 9am and when we were back at 11am the whole side of the road was packed.

Super packed, but the lake is incredible.

We hiked Saint Mary’s Glacier a few weeks ago. It’s a short, rocky climb, but the reward is breathtaking. The alpine lake, glacier and surrounding foliage is beautiful! We’re definitely making a return trip!

Another one of my favorite hikes. Used to hike it regularly when living in Colorado Springs.
