First time on the trail. Great views. Went in mid December, with very little traffic!

Short but challenging with great views.

really lovely views. steep but fun hiking. took us about an hour to the top and a bit less coming down.

Parking was great. Got there at 8am and only 4 cars. There are about 20 parking spots. Almost gave 4 stars because there's not even 1 sign to guide us. Downloading maps are the must! Beautiful weather, nobody stepped in for a while, it seemed since no human footsteps until I was coming back. It was worth the hike! Very challenging at icy steep spots and narrow trails. Not a good idea for snowshowing or even running(unless summer time). Have fun and be careful! x 12/15/18

Great trail. Amazing views. Can see Pikes Peak from the top of Chautauqua Mountain. Enjoyable Hike.

Definitely one of the more difficult trials I’ve climbed. The view was stunning and the workout was even better.

The trail is steep. Be prepared to stumble and loose footing. Wear shoes with lots of traction. It’s an adventure for sure.

The reviews don’t lie, this trail is hard. The way up is mainly an incline and the end of the trail is climbing up steep rocks. I ran into a lot of deer, and the trail was very peaceful and the view at the top was amazing. But be aware the way down is very slippery, and I lost my footing a few times. Worth the hike, but be mentally prepared for the challenge!

This was a perfect hike to get the burn I was seeking, along with the views and also saw plenty of deer, 1 nice buck. I clocked 5 miles and 2083 elevation gain... May have got a little side tracked checking out the deer. Super easy to get to the trailhead and easy to follow trail. Great hike and views if you’re looking to get a workout in. If you’re afraid of heights.... be careful. Very rocky, loose rocks and pretty much straight incline the entire way, loved it. Worth it!

This trail is HARD but very worth it. We saw everyone around us sliding and falling, so be careful! No ice/snow (surprising for december) but pretty biting winds near the peak. I would recommend a pole or two, though we went without just fine.

A great ball-buster of a hike. Love it!

Did this on 12/1/18. This trail is very difficult. I’d rather do Mt Evans 50 times before I ever do this again lol. It was worth it and had beautiful views at the top, but it was hard! The top scared me a little bit with how steep it was along with the scrambling, especially coming down, but I survived. No ice or anything since there hasn’t been a lot of snow.

I’ve hiked this trail multiple times. Was virtually empty today. You do need micro spikes to stay safe on the ice.

Pretty exposed to sun if it’s out. The trail was rocky, technical and a steep incline off the bat but became more smooth down the line. Great views from the top!

Beautiful views on this trail! There is lots of ice on it right now but many ways to walk around it.

BE CAREFUL at this point. Mt Falcon trail (Castle Trail) is ok except for maybe 300’ of ice.

Returning on Turkey Trot, or going up Turkey Trot, involves thousands of feet (45 minutes) of hardpacked glass ice, even hard to manage in yak tracks.

One of the best trails around.

it's all true. rough trail, very steep and beautiful views

Trail turn offs can be difficult to see at first, otherwise it’s a gorgeous hike once you get past the reservoir. Was surprised to see how intact the plane was. Snow and ice made some areas slick.

I agree with the rating of easy. You are really just hiking on a road used to drive up to the lookout. The altitude is what makes it more difficult than just a walk on the street.
The views are stunning. We came the day after snow and the aesthetics are awesome. Going on the rocks near and around the lookout is awesome to get 360 views of the area.
It is 4 miles up and back. Great for a short walk/hike.
Be sure not to miss the turn for the trail head.

it was raining at the start, so the trail was pretty slick, but a really good hike. as others mentioned, there's a bit of scrambling up some rocks about 3/4 of the way up. great views and definitely worth it.

I hiked Mason Creek to Bear Paw but then took Old Mill to Staunton Ranch for 8.5 miles. Nice terrain and not too crowded on a Sunday in November with below-freezing temperatures. Bear Paw is completely snow-covered: you should bring poles or traction devices. I just used poles and was fine. The two overlooks had lovely views and if it hadn't been so cold, would have been a good spot to sit for a while. I also only saw 4 dogs off-leash and only saw one poop bag on the side of the trail, which seems pretty good considering the popularity of this park.

East trailhead Castle Trail up long switchbacks to Walker Ruins & Summer White Hse (great views west!) return Down Turkey Trot Trail north facing sections icey slush. 8am start, not too crowded mid week.Windy, layer up, gloves & ears. CMCDan,Nov 2 ,2018.

Nice, steep trail with great Red Rocks views.

Hiked 10/29/2018 Castle Trail up to the Presidents Summer House. Beautiful views. Not too busy. Perfect weather and views. Easy to moderate. Great trail while acclimating to the altitude.

Good hike today. Started at 8AM after a night of decent drinking and ~4 hours sleep. It was hot enough such that a t-shirt and shorts would have been perfect unlike the warmer attire that I choose to wear. I kept a close eye on the trail but didn’t see any snakes. Great views on way up and up top (Mt. Evans & James Peak both snow covered). Not the best trail to break in new hiking shoes. Watch you’re speed driving into and out of Morrison. A cop (sloppy fat prick) gave me a ticket for going 40mph in a 25mph zone — totally ridiculous!

Steep uphill climb for the first half if you're coming form Morrison, but lots of switchbacks makes it easy. Once you're at the top, you'll get an awesome view of Denver and Red Rocks. We also saw tons of wildlife. Lots of options for castle and trail exploring, too. Really good place to take someone new to hiking or visiting the area because you can stay up there for hours or come down if they're not feelin' it. Get ice cream in Morrison after!

Well marked, well maintained trails. Some nice views and interesting ruins. A lot of side trails near the top, so you can make it a bit longer. Not too much elevation gain; kind of a mild trail. Not crowded this morning (Tuesday).

I do this one at least once a week. Great training hike. I am posting because I have already seen, more than once, people asking how to get to the top when there is barely any daylight left. The top section of the ridge, after the tight trees, has some exposure. One needs a headlamp, Tripping over in the wrong spot and one can get hurt. A cell phone flashlight ties up one hand. Even if you turn around, from the false ridge to the car is just scree coming down. Not really fun to do it without light. This is rattlesnake paradise. Not sure I would want to spend the night (hurt) there.
