very beautiful! the steep incline lasts 90% of the hike but the view is completely worth it! dress cool and wear sunscreen, you’ll be in the sun most of the time ☀️

The first part of the hike, around the lake, was very easy and flat. We actually saw a moose and her two babies swimming here, very cool. I highly recommend extending the hike to get all the way up to Emerald Basin. The hike is moderate, and very secluded, great chance to escape the crowds. Don’t be alarmed by the initial steep start, it flatter out after about 30 minutes. The view from the top does not display the lake, although it is still incredible and serene. I liked Emerald Lake better than Lake Louise, personally.

Easy hike for in shape people and worth the trip. Very touristy but that’s ok.

We got to Johnston Canyon at 9:00am and there weren’t many people on the trail. The trail to the Ink Pots is well marked and people were scarce on that part of the hike. However, on the way back the falls were packed with people so it’s best to start early.

There were some dips in the path which made for nice inclines so your legs can get a good workout instead of just walking on flat terrain.

The Ink Pots themselves were majestic and a great place to explore; the Upper and Lower Falls were beautiful and it was even better enjoying them without crowds of people.

Family stroll around lake. Amazing views, excellent trail.

Did this hike a week ago. As a beginner hiker I would say this was more moderate than easy. Steep incline but so worth it

Nice trail with rewarding views towards top. Not ideal to do mid-day on a hot day. Shady spots throughout thankfully. Big range of hikers on this trail. Parents carrying toddlers to 70 yrs old. Good workout!

Great for if you’re out with the family, any age can do this walk. If you’re feeling ambitious then you can climb quite a ways up behind the falls too!

Good workout for daily training, up n down in under 45min

Great hike for families even infants and old people. I’m unfit and it took me 45 minutes each way.

Slightly challenging if you’re with someone sedentary but great views.

Easy walk and great way to get some pictures of the lake without all the tourists by the entrance.

Nice but crowded

Such a beautiful, easy hike. Went up to the (hopefully abandoned??) bear cave past the waterfall. Crowds completely die after that point, very peaceful.

Did this with my 3 and 5 year old, who are taller than most. They loved it- it was just challenging enough for them to make it feel like an “adventure.” A beautiful hike for all ages. There’s an extra bit of the trail at the end that leads up to the top of the cliff. This was too much for the kids but easy for adults. Worth the view!

If you're unfit and lazy like me, a little under half of the hike is actually pretty tough. But its completely worth it. Gorgeous views at the top and at the end there are two red chairs. If you go with a partner, make sure to bring a couple of cold ones to crack, lay back and enjoy.

Amazing went before 8am. The only one on the trails. Definitely go up the left side of the water fall to see more water falls. One of my favourite hikes.

Some great views of the valley and a very reasonable hike.

Great hike when you are limited on time. The views were wonderful. Challenging at parts and switchbacks were a nice change.

Fun casual hike with the kids. Falls are great, as you can get to them, beside and behind them.

Great hiking trail for families and dogs!! Beautiful spot!

Nice quick hike, great for young families. It took us about 2 hours and that was with a couple toddler meltdowns and a quick lunch at the falls. Although we saw this tagged as “stroller friendly” last year, and hiked it with our Bumbleride Indie Twin, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are lots of tree roots and rocks, and even for an all terrain stroller it’s a lot to handle. Especially as you get up to the falls. This year my husband wore our 1 year old in the Ergo and I wore our 2 year old in a wrap. Definitely recommend babywearing! I love that this trail is nicely shaded basically the whole way, and it’s clear and wide making for easy passing, or walking in a group. It was busy today, which we expected, and no sign of bears.

i give it 5 stars because that trail is so cool

Some nice views along the way up, once the canyon opens up the path isn't marked the greatest but it leaves a lot of room for exploring. I would recommend this as a nice afternoon outing and would do it again.

We arrived at 7:30 to a parking lot with ~25 other cars. Very few people at the falls when we got there. The trail to ink pots was pretty easy too. All in all, took us ~2.5 hours start to finish. On the way back from ink pots the line for upper falls was ridiculously long and people were parking on the road outside the park. Definitely need to start early. If you start early bring a jacket. It was 4°C (39° F) when we began in mid July.

Well worth the climb! Spectacular views of Banff.

A great workout with an awesome reward at the finish. Incredible views from all angles.

9 and 7 yo were overjoyed with the water features and scrambling available at their level. I carried a 3yo until the first waterfall, and she was able to get up to the notch on her own... then back on the back for the way down.

Completed in 2 hrs with a couple 10 year olds. It is an easy enjoyable hike. Not particularly interesting but nice and open and close to Hwy 1. Exposed for a majority of the time so the fact that we went on a slightly cloudy day was perfect.
