Non-stop water views the whole way! Trail was clear in most spots. A few logs to climb over. Def a moderate trail because of the slope and constant tree roots. The reservoir dam was beautiful. Bring spikes if close to feeezing out. As there is a lot of snow on this trail.
Icy but easy enough
Good afternoon hike to the top of Tippling rock
Icy, muddy, bring your boots
Not cleared in all places but passable without snowshoes, beautiful view of the lake the whole time
Fun to walk across the pond!
This is a very pretty walk with nice historical sites along the way to keep it interesting. The trail is very uneven and slippery right now so I spent most of the walk looking at my feet to make sure I didn’t slip and fall. Lots of people snowshoeing and XC skiing along the trail seem to have had the right idea. Watch where you step - quite a few inconsiderate dog owners have let their dogs pee smack in the middle of the trail.
4.4 in snow
4.6 in the snow,
For the uninhibited, hike out the 2 miles frm Rt20 to Ford’s Folly. Other than the dam wall, narrow fenced walkway, babbling brook & arching trees in the water, we found a bright yellow convertible car (Jeep?) in the bank of the waterway, crushed under the weight of a tree, filled w decaying leaves & water. To find it look behind the back side of the fence, straight down alongside the wall. U may have to smoosh ur face along the fence or carefully balance ur cellphone high over the fence to take a pic w/o dropping it. I saw no other entries about this. Did this happen the last 5 years? The yellow paint’s still real bright. Was the car thrown off the top? Was it driven there somehow? Is there a road somewhere that goes to the Folly? How’d the whole top of the car get crushed? Who were the occupants? Was it well to do teenagers partying or did something nefarious happen here? We couldn’t linger any more to do close up inspection, as the trail took us over an hour and a half out and back. That was the most interesting find, after seeing Boston to the east. At the highest elevation, looking east, on a clear day, I saw the Wynn Resort & Casino in Everett; it’s the angled building. U can also see the cluster of the 3 tallest Boston buildings: 200 Clarendon (formerly the John Hancock Tower), Prudential Tower, & newest sky-rise, either Millenium Tower or the 4 Seasons Hotel. To the right, in a Southeast direction, in the winter, u can see the Blue Hills Ski area with the snow white ski trail. Straight behind you, 180o, in the West direction, thru the cluster of tree branches, u can just make out a white ski trail & the mountain hump of the Wachusetts Mountain Ski Resort in Princeton, MA. People gather up at the flat top to relax after the climb and kids linger playing. The Boston buildings r so far away & the skyline is essentially flat & boring. We had to navigate 3 separate areas with over a 20’ span of mud, even though it hadn’t rained in the 4 days prior. U have to navigate around the muck, rubbing up against shrubbery & branches. We checked ourselves for ticks afterwards, bec someone found a tick on themselves in a December hiking entry. U can easily get lost, bec there’s so many trails that branch off after Tippling Rock to get back to parking lot off Rt 20, so pay close attention, esp if light is failing. Elevation only felt at beginning of hike, not bad after 10 min. Good exercise but wasn’t the best trail. Was crowded in first mile and a half, desolate by Ford’s Folly. In getting to Ford’s Folly we had to hike down & walk over Brimstone Lane, a narrow road that becomes a private road. An oil truck got stuck & couldn’t turn around. So he backed up his huge rig very carefully with back up sirens going on for many minutes, bringing us back to the real world of the pandemic in the quiet of our hike. Is Tippling spelled with 2 P’s or 1P? The sign from the Town of Sudbury announcing it from Rt 20, has it spelled w 1 P. Google spells it w 2 P’s as does the All Trails App. When used as the verb as in drinking alcohol, there’s 2 P’s again. So what gives...poor speller in the Town of Sudbury, home to highly ranked Lincoln-Sudbury HS? Or is it a faux pas of a Boy Scouts creation that created the sign (as it’s part their land)? Or maybe the creators were tippling to excess when engraving the sign?
Beautiful but icy
Pretty snowy not many clear paths but still nice!
Needed snowshoes for some sections. 4 days after snow storm
Great walk in the woods, easy to navigate. Lots of people and dogs!
Beautiful kids friendly trail
Very pleasant, a little muddy/wet in places but nothing major.
Terrific day strolling through the Minute Man National Historical Park. The missus and I did 6.08 miles on the Battle Road and tertiary trails. We expected a modest amount of dog walkers, trail runners, and hikers on Sunday. No doubt, it was just the right amount of people in the park today. Overall, the park kept us interested between the historical sites, woodlands, and wetlands. Most likey, we will come back to this place for future hikes.
