This was a great hike. A good workout but not too hard. It feels way out there but really just a few minutes off the freeway. Pay close attention to the trail markers to stay on the 10 mile loop. We got lost the first time we did this and ended up hiking a total of 14 miles because we had taken a wrong turn at some point.

Good trail and easy to follow. Bring plenty of water and use sunscreen during the summer. Had my 4 kids with me (10 and under) and they were able to get to the top. It was definitely hot with minimal coverage, I’d like to do it again once it’s cooled down a bit. The views were worth the climb. The distance is a little off, it says it is 4.6 miles but we went 5.41 miles total.

This trail was awesome!! Nice view almost all around, no shade however is worthy

Fun, beautiful hike! We saw many coyotes and rabbits! Very scenic and lots of shade. I would definitely recommend to others who are looking for a long, somewhat challenging at times, hike!

Typical SoCal hike. Good workout and accurate distance. There are a few nice lookout points but for the most part it is an uncovered grind to the peak. We went in the early afternoon on a sunny day in June and it was HOT. No tree coverage but based on other reviews did not expect any. A solid hike and close to San Diego which is a plus.

It's a nice local suburban hike with about a 1000' gain on wide, well-marked trails. It gets better once you get to the top of Stoneridge housing development - at the first water tank - and away from the houses. Nice views once you get high enough. Can be somewhat crowded on weekends, but not too bad. Cool that you can get a climb and a view like this without having to drive too far. Nice spanning coastal views on clear days and usually pleasant breezes to cool you off once you hit the top. Cool to hit Double Peak just around sunset.

Definitely not a summer afternoon hike. VERY hot with very little shade. I took 4L and it was barely enough. Great hike otherwise. The best part was the rock formations towards the end, so push through to the peak and you’ll be rewarded.

Too many houses around during some of the trip.
Saw a coyote though so had a good experience. Moderate difficulty.

It was a nice moderate trail.

Awesome trail, you definitely get your moneys worth on this steady steady climb. Awesome views at the top

amazing placer

What can I say, this is a fun hike! The caves are so cool to see and u don't even think about the difficulty of the trail because of all there is to see! Beautiful views from the peak as well!

Fun but harder hike, took kids and dogs and they were good!

Lovely quiet trail, perfect for running. Would recommend parking and beginning at black mountain ranch park rather than the trailhead this app recommends (that trailhead is at one of the most confusing parts of the loop- black mountain ranch park is pretty clear)

it's quite the lower body burn for the first mile or so and then again, intermittently on the path. there are a few splits in the road that are not marked but you can figure it out relatively easily as the alternate "paths" don't really lead anywhere. you pass some huge homes, compounds really, so you don't really feel like it's a hike until you are near the top and the homes are in the distance. not as "scenic" as I'd hoped from prior reviews but after doing Corte Madeira in Cleveland National Forrest, there's not much that I would be wowed by. there are a lot of loose rocks so stick to the surfaces that look most traveled as they are the most secure. took us 2 hours because the first 20-30 minutes is super challenging. use this as a workout and you will love it. using it as a scenic experience, not really. we saw a total of 5 people so it's perfect for going at whatever pace you want.

this Trail was nice for an early morning. it would definitely be hot later in the day there's no shade period after you make it to the top where the American flag is, if you keep on going for another mile or so you hit a beautiful River with lots of trees. the rattlesnakes are out watch your step.

**** NOTE ******
This map / trail takes you past the rock house to the other side of the mountain, and literally drops you off underneath some huge power lines. Not sure it is worth continuing after the rock house.

Overall this was a great hike that really got the blood pumping and ended with an awesome view. Overall the trail is in pretty good condition. I recommend getting some hiking boots to ensure you are getting the best grip possible when going up/down the steepest parts.

Parking is easy since this hike starts at a residential neighborhood.

For the most part this hike just goes up and not too many flat areas that will allow for you to relax. I frequently hike and was able to do this no problem, even followed a lady carrying her 3 yr old up it! Although I will admit, it looked extremely challenging.

Just make sure to take your time and go during a cool parts of the day as there is no shade. Make sure to bring plenty of water and enjoy the views form the top!

Beautiful views along with my pup and I getting quite a workout with the steep hills. Parking was good and there was barely anyone there. With that being said, we encountered a rattlesnake towards the end of our hike (we’re fine!) just make sure you’re aware of your surroundings!

It is convenient and nice views from the top. I am not crazy about pavement and looking into people’s yards. So many homes. Prefer to be away from it....

Take plenty of water and make sure to wear sun screen. Not a lot of shade but overall a great place to go hiking.

Today, I hiked it. It was a good early east county hike for the pre beginning of summer hike. On the way up, it was steep, took some of the switchbacks on the steepest section. Great views on a clear day. Be careful on the way down, it gets slippery with lots of loose rocks.

Great views and a good challenge on the way up.

Awesome hike with great views. Avoid the heat and go right before sunset to get a spectacular view at the rock house.

A great hike but definitely on the harder side of things. Make sure you bring plenty of water as there is very little shade. Lots of wild flowers in May. The trail takes you to Little Gower and not the actual peak. We tried to get to the actual peak and couldn’t find a viable trail.

Decently steep ascent with amazing views through the entire hike. Saw some snakes at and near the top so be aware!

Great hike, beautiful vies make sure you bring plenty of water there's no shade best to hike it early, I enjoy best doing the loop, either way they both have lots of loose gravel you must be careful on your way down.

Excellent trail. Take a map if you haven't hiked it before. Go early, take plenty of water. Have fun!
