on Dog Mountain Trail

Loved it!! Went today by myself and beat the crowd... not much people during the week, especially early morning!! Took me 1.5 hours to go up there, pretty decent pace. Not too difficult if you're in shape!! I would say moderate for me... Also no more snow! Definitely will be back when it's spring

Beautiful, quick and easy.

Hiked this trail yesterday on a whim. It was really fun and really dramatic. Although it started off temperate and spitting rain, as the elevation climbed and I rose into the clouds it started snowing and the wind picked up. There wasn’t much in the way of views but that’s only because of the thickness of the clouds. Still some snow at the top. It’s manageable, just take your time. Will definitely be back to try this one again.

This trail is spectacular and is definitely worth the walk especially is it’s basically the only falls trail open right now. Definitely do it clockwise.

One of my favorite hikes. Great for beginner hikers or a quick daily walk in the woods. In the spring and summer I do this hike 3 to 4 times a week. Also going on a sunny morning it's a photographer's dream location.

My first day of training for the Mount Marathon race in Seward AK! I am using Dog Mtn as my training mountain since its the only thing that comes remotely close to the race- which is 3022 feel climb in 1.22 miles- YIKES! Got to the top and down in 1 hr 35 minutes! Its always so awesome seeing so many people getting up this mountain! Gorgeous views and snow at the top!

Great hike! Don't bring your dog unless they're in good shape, ours barely made it down! Apparently we net to get her on a treadmill lol. Fantastic views at the top, definitely a challenge with a ton of steep inclines, the lookout point halfway up was a lifesaver

We planned to hike Saddle Mountain last weekend, but the report about knee-deep snow made us reschedule. We hiked Sunday, March 11. Arrived at trailhead around 9:00 am. Parking wasn’t an issue at that time. The first mile is snow-free, but there’s still a considerable amount of snow on the trail once you pass the first rocky lookout. The snow was slushy and very slippery in places. I was thankful to have my microspikes. Unless you are very surefooted, I felt microspikes were necessary. I saw several people take a few spills. Just read on the news this morning that the Coast Guard had to rescue someone who slipped on the snow last night. As we were coming down, a lot of people headed up did not look prepared for the snow they would encounter. Be safe out there! Overall, it was a great day though, with clear views of all the peaks. We finished just as the trail was starting to get very crowded, so if you plan to head out in the next few days, be prepared for the snow and try to arrive early.

Some sick views! Super hard trail to get up and really killed the knees goin down. I had lunch at the top and loved seeing all the dogs people brought

Amazing views. I enjoy the 'difficult' trail more than 'more difficult'. There is still snow at the top so wear good shoes and be prepared. Love this one!

Beautiful but very popular expect to share the beautiful views. Trail is in good condition but still has areas that are muddy!

Forever a favorite hike of mine. I love the intensity and the peacefulness at the summit. I seem to always do this hike when I need a reminder to be grateful for the little things. Gorgeous weather today and so many friendly faces!

Great hike for young kids. My 4 year old handled it like a champ. A lot of traffic on a sunny day with the other gorge hikes still closed but worth it!!!

Beautiful hike! Wear appropriate shoes-it was pretty muddy.

You can literally drive up too or walk up too this waterfall it's so pretty!

Fantastic hike, gorgeous in every way, waterfalls, lush greenery, flowers, mushrooms, moss, all that's missing are the little fairies :) Took us about 5-6 hrs, just what we needed.

Great hike with great views. Climbed March 4th with no special snow gear. The few feet of snow on the top third of the hike was hard and easily walked on. One of my favorite hikes during my stay in the PNW.

Amazing beginner hike. Definitely will be back

Did this hike Sunday March 4, starting 7:30am to about 11:30am with stopping and the additional viewpoint of .2 mile around .3 miles from the start of the trail. The Snow was packed and this hike was lush and really breathtaking views along the way. I highly recommend starting after sunrise because the visibility is the best early on. Around 10am the clouds came in with fog!

Had so much fun! A few areas were a little not kid friendly with a 2 and 4 year old but we just carried them. His is an amazing hike!

by far the best and most rewarding hike I've done. It's difficult at times but mostly pretty steady and the views along the way are stunning and make amazing pictures.

Headed up the trail at 10am today. There are lots of snow still and we actually had to turn around about mile 1.5. We weren't prepared for snow and it got above knee deep at a couple of spots. We did run into another pair coming up and they looked more prepared than us so I'm curious how it went for them and their dog. We look forward to going back when the snow and clouds clear a bit. We did encounter some major pot-holes on the road leading up to the parking lot where the trailhead was at. There are some flags to warn you but it didn't help much.

Went and hiked this on our way back from Seattle WA to CA, it was great the trail takes you to the top of the waterfall then down to the base of the waterfall

Fun hike, not to many people were actually taking the whole loop due to slush, so the trail was pretty empty. Nice trails, great for dogs and the falls are beautiful! Moments of silence were not taken for granted.

This is such a fun hike. The falls are so breath taking!! And you can get right underneath them :-) Easy, kid and dog friendly as well. We will be back!

Beautiful waterfalls! Very slippery because of melted snow / slush! Coming back in the summer!

Super fun hike with beautiful falls - in dry weather you could wear tennis shoes. I did not go in dry weather... it is VERY slick and muddy- several people fell multiple times. Wear shoes with good traction!

Gorgeous and easy to get to. Pretty tough at the end but totally worth it.

About 37F and driving rain when we left the car.

The middle section was more or less a stream running down and in some parts across the trail.

Once we got out of the trees we were in our own world of white, very limited visibility and howling wind blowing snow and ice pellets.

We got within a a hundred yards or so of the summit (I'm estimating) but this is one of the few hikes I've ever chickened out of completing because of weather conditions being too poor. The wind was so strong that it just didn't feel safe continuing.
