Did this Dec 9. The vehicle access road to the trailhead parking lot closes for the winter on Dec. 1 so the hike up the road to the trailhead adds 4.5 miles round trip, making this a 12 mile hike. The log crossing was easy as there is a log handrail next to one of the main crossing logs, so even though it’s icy, you can easily hang on and feel safe as long as the water level is low. Could have used yak tracks in a few icy spots but no need for snowshoes right now. Pretty views of Hood and the falls are beautifully iced over in parts. Almost no one out today due to the weather.

I did the trail for the first time today and it was a beautiful, though chili hike. The entire trail is snowed in so come prepared. The road itself leading to the trailhead is covered in snow, though lots of exposed ice throughout would make it unsuitable for non AWD vehicles without snow tires. Temperatures hovered around 25°F, with clouds rolling in and out, and occasional cool wind gusts/mild snow fall. This was despite a forecast of clear skies. Overall, the hike is very enjoyable, and I plan on doing it again later this winter.

Beautiful hike, perfect For This Time Of The Year, !

Beautiful day with gorgeous view of Mt! A bit windy but otherwise perfect, no crowds easy parking. Our dog loved it!

The hike starts with a pretty steep incline, but after a mile or so it actually gets very pleasant. There was quite some snow on the trail already. The views, especially at the end, are spectacular. We only encountered a few other people. Really enjoyed this hike!

Nice fairly quick hike. Little bit of elevation to get to the lake, but the loop around it is flat. Expect it to be busy during summer weekends.

Did this hike a while back. Did not disappoint, very beautiful.

This is one of my favorite loops for a scenic, slightly challenging day hike. It’s not too muddy yet, but high traffic areas around the Pool of the Winds are getting there. Be sure to pack a coat, as well as some gloves and a hat for the summit; there’s already some snow accumulation, especially on the north face of Hamilton Mountain.

The trail is covered in snow about half way up the trail. Crampons and poles recommended if planing to summit.

Great hike! Beautiful views. My 7 year old daughter was able to hike it, but she is a pretty determined kid.

The trail is covered in snow and can be slippery in quite a few places. If you have spikes or crampons that would be best. Be prepared for the cold and wind with plenty of layers! Saw a lot of people hiking in the dark without headlamps/flashlights, if you’re going later in the day be ready for it to get dark fast on your way down. Gorgeous view at the top!

It was a great trail. Not too hard and a great length. How ever, I believe the 6.9 mi. that this app says is wrong. My garmin watch said it was close to 9 miles. Went late November and hiked through some snow! Slippery but just be cautious. And crossing the river is fairly easy. Enjoy!

Steep uphill for a bit but so worth the spectacular view at the top. I would take a lunch and sit at the top. I think this would be incredible early for a sunrise. I will do this hike over and over. Follow the signs for top spur trailhead. To get to the parking.

Good hike with decent incline... However, it is longer than 3.7 miles. Prepare for atleast 5.8 miles.

Great hike, but definitely need spikes to get to the shelter. It may be better now, but when we went all the snow was iced over and there was no traction whatsoever. Longer than 10 miles, but worth every step. We took the trail that added an extra 0.6 mile to get that glorious view of Mt Hood, and an extra mile going to Cairn Basin. The trek down to Cairn Basin after the shelter is worth it.

This was a good hike. If the ending had a better view I would have given this a higher score. But otherwise, it was enjoyable and a great workout with pretty good views throughout.

Awesome, relaxed hike. Crossing the river wasn't too bad - it definitely looks scarier than it is. We went the first weekend of November and there was no issue, but I'm not sure how high the water is now that it's rained recently.

Went there yesterday. Gorgeous hike challenging but not annoyingly difficult. Some ice patches but I easily broke through most of it. A good pair of treaded hiking boots should be fine. If you are under 130#s maybe some shoe spikes might be in order.

Fun relatively easy hike! Be prepared to walk on a log to cross the river! Super pretty and pretty empty trail!

Awesome hike today - took about 4 1/2 hours . Waterfalls early on awesome - and Vistas at top are killer . Howling winds yet could find reprieve along the way. Nice workout. Had to use hands bit for balance along some rocky switchbacks - very doable. Nice side shoots to explore - especially up near the rocky parts.
Very repeatable hike - will come back in spring.

new favorite for sure! definitely plan to take 3 to 4 hours in order to complete the full loop. fall is my favorite time to hike in the gorge and so long as it hasnt been raining heavily for a few days prior to your hike the paths should still be easy to navigate. love the view from the top, absolutely incredible! worth every step!

11/18/18. Relatively easy hike, mostly flat, well-defined trail. Beautiful views of Mt. Hood when the forest opens up a bit. Ramona falls was an awesome way to cap off the hike.

A friend of mine and I took a few of our children - 9,12 & 14ish and they all did really well, with minimal whining. There were a couple of steep switch backs, but not quite as steep or intense as the nearby "Dog Mountain." The views from the top were not as incredible as Dog Mountain, but they were nice. I do agree with some commenters who brought out, there is really no good place to sit and have lunch at the top. The "saddle" or ridge of the trail was super windy and pretty fun for our kiddos. There are a couple of pretty awesome waterfalls and "The Pool of the Winds," which was pretty cool.

Great new trail

Shorty but a goody. Brand new trail head and trail with beautiful bridges. Get there early for that “mirror” effect the lake is known for and avoid the crowds.

Most of the hike was through the forest. The very end you come to an amazing viewpoint that can barely be beat. I still prefer Bear Mountain Creek Trail because the entire hike is through meadows and unique throughout. The view is also much more impressive of the Goat Rocks and 360 degrees. The road up to the trailhead and the trail itself was perfect except for two down trees that were easy to walk around! I’ll definitely do it again and again and again!

Nice little workout to the summit. If I did it again I wouldn’t do the loop, just out and back to the false summit for some decent views.

Beautiful view of Mt. Hood from the top, and a terrific spot for a picnic. When we hiked this trail back in March it had a lot of ice and snow, so I would recommend micro spikes and trekking poles. My only complaint is the lack of parking. We parked down at the ski area, and had to walk along the highway; Very unsafe.

False summit view is incredible on a clear day, but the view from the top is terrible. This is my least favorite hike in the Gorge.

A little more difficult than I had expected, but pretty nonetheless. There are about two areas with views on the trail (really just one great one), but being one of “those” hikers who likes the payoff at the end, I wasn’t thrilled with how intense the last 0.3ish miles was, for zero view at the top (unless you consider an electrical substation gorgeous). So, overall a bit disappointed this comes up when “views” are filtered but I would probably do it again with some detours to the falls, like some reviews mentioned, with a friend.
You will need a Discover pass!
I didn’t see any bridges that were out, so must have been fixed.
