Best hike in the Bay Area. Good mix of ecosystems and wildlife, while providing a good workout through length and climb.

Beautiful walk at sunset into the evening. Watching the stars emerge from one end of the horizon to the other was breathtaking.

Very steep, and slippery when muddy! But very pretty trail, and saw several deer.

ocean, trees, & fresh air, does it get better?

Beautiful hills and weather, perfect for a Thanksgiving hike.

We started by the fire station trailhead- that way gives you a steep climb to start the trail. Going the other direction is a longer, steady climb.

Phone gps trackers put the total hike at about 7.2 miles.

Trail pretty well maintained and easy to follow- we never found ourselves wondering which trail to follow.

There is a nice outcrop with a good view of Stinson beach- maybe around 1.5 miles in.

Nice changes between forests, grass hills, and then along a creek on the Dipsea trail portion.

All in all, a good hike.

Remember to dress in layers..

Attempted 5 days ago, made it to Drakes Beach, only confirming, that yes, the lighthouse is closed. Bummer.... Walked Drakes Beach and took in its stunning, beautiful, ocean and mountain view’s!! The drive is gorgeous!! Worth our little “disbelief”. ALSO, there is next to no cell service up that way. If you plan on hiking, make sure you have downloaded maps on your phone to pull up, or best bet, have old fashioned, hard core, hiking topo maps!

My dad and I hiked this on a Tuesday felt like it was just us I suggest parking at Stinson beach beautiful views saw a coyote deer squirrel birds finished in three hours amazing time bring a friend or family member and do it!!!

the light house trail is currently close for maintenance. Scenic drive heading to the light house. Saw a lot of deers & some elks hanging out with the cows

Beautiful Views! The Elk are Spectacular!!

My first time in Point Reyes. So beautiful! The elk, the wild flowers, the views. At first I was thinking this hike is on the easier side of moderate but the distance definitely makes it a bit more challenging. The distance and fighting through the head-high wild flowers to get to the end.

Gorgeous views from the hill and beautiful beach too; there’s a bathroom and garbage cans at the beach. I think you can camp there with a permit

Wow! I’m not sure it gets better than this hike! Ocean, Redwoods, steep climbs, well maintained trails with built in terraced stairs throughout the trails, views for days that covered all the way out to east bay and SF. Absolutely stunning day to hike, we lucked out. Apparently in winter there are waterfalls, today we had trickles but it was lovely to hike alongside the sounds of water in the trees.

We took a wrong turn at pantoll and went up the wrong Matt Davies trailhead which took us up to the mountain theater by accident. However that little detour gave us the most amazing views!! Totally worth the 3 mile mistake to get back via old mine trail to get back on the right Matt Davies trail. Such an incredible and challenging hike! Wowza

Great hike!

We started the hike about 9:30am October 20, 2018. Couldn't ask for better weather. There was a little coastal fog that burned off quickly and no wind.

The first part of the hike is easy and the views of the Pacific Ocean are amazing. Elk can be found throughout the trail. About a mile in, the trail has a good moderate climb.

The real reward is when you reach the point. Because there was no wind, we enjoyed our sandwiches while watching a seal play in the water. We were literally perched on the cliff overlooking the beautiful waves crashing on the shore below.

The return trip was on the same trail, but there were lots of hikers by this time. So glad we left early so we could enjoy some solitude before the crowds. When we returned to the parking lot around 2:00 pm, it was full!

We strolled around the old ranch there looking at the buildings, etc. By the time we returned to our car, about 2:30pm, we noticed that the wind had picked up.

Highly recommend this hike in the morning to avoid crowds and wind!

Nice relatively flat walk. Our 7 year old made it but was quite tired so I’d rank it 7+ kids wise.

I love the Dipsea portion of this trail. I would suggest going the Matt Davis portion to the where the vista of the ocean is and then going back down Dipsea. My reason for this suggestion is that Matt Davis has lots of poison oak and seemed to be more crowded.

Good hike—stunning views of Tomales Bay, Bodega Bay and south to Drakes Bay. Mild incline about a mile into the hike, but easy hiking on the maintained trail. The last half mile on the unmaintained stretch is a narrow, sandy channel through scratchy foliage, so long pants are a plus, but the view is worth the effort. Lots of Tule elk, we also saw a fox and a coyote as well as birds galore. Be aware that the whole hike is exposed, so take water and keep that in mind as regards clothes. Hike this! It’s awesome.

Amazing trail! Took me around 3 hours. I did it counter clockwise this time (starting on Dipsea, then Steep Ravine and lastly Matt Davis) and is much more enjoyable, as the uphill part is not only shorter but also nicer, with water running and beautiful trees. After 1.5 hours you will arrive to Pantoll Campground, where you can refill your water bottle. From there, is all downhill vía Matt Davis trail.

Amazing hike, took us 4 hours with lots of stops

This is a super easy hike and very scenic, but long as everyone says. You will get up close and personal with the elk and the birds at the end. I give it 4 stars because there is no water refill stations in the park at all and bathrooms are scarce. But this hike in particular is great.

This was a gorgeous and moderately challenging hike with a decent amount of elevation change. Can’t wait to go back. Only reason I didn’t give five stars was the lack of maintenance. Exposed rebar on some Dipsea steps. Fencing down in many places along the route.

This was a lovely trail and a beaufiful day. The trail justified the ratings received on alltrails.com. We went up the Steep Ravine and came down on Matt David trail.

We are a new pro user of alltrails app, and the detailed offline maps and tracking were really worth it. Looking forward to many more.

One of my fav hikes I’ve done so far. Really beautiful, took Steep Ravine trail and went all the way down to Stinson Beach. Beautiful views.

Beautiful scenic views, family friendly.

A nice waterfall and scenery changes from forest to meadow to waterfall to coastal. Started from the Stinson beach fire station

My favorite hike in the Bay Area

Beautiful scenic views for a hike! must visit.

It is one of my favorite beach. Beautiful. You can walk or run miles and miles, left and right. Lots of people, kids playing, people riding horses along the beach.
