As previously stated parking is a challenge if you don’t arrive early. Over all it was a nice leisurely hike many squirrels, dragon flies and butterflies.. Colors are beginning to change. Was able to take a nice peaceful nap at Hodgees campsite before heading back down the trail.

This is my first hike in a national forest and I really enjoyed it! This route in particular wasn’t too steep and has plenty of shade, my 10 year-old brother who didn’t really have any hiking experience said it was an easy hike. Just make sure you arrive early because the parking lot fills up quickly; we arrived at 6:50 am (Sunday) and we had to park a long way down the road!

Currently my favorite trail, however it becomes very busy during the week ends. I would suggest to arrive super early or car pool.

CLOSED FOR GOOD

Overall pretty hike- but two of the trails on this particular route are closed. If you truly follow it - you make your way through area of very loose soil on the RIM trail and the second closure is close to the cliffs/ water. That piece of the trail is completely blocked and no one can enter. All elevation is at the end (as the information shows).

We visited today at around 7:30 am and finding parking was a hassle! Overall getting to the waterfall wasn’t overly difficult however save the energy for the way back, its much more difficult. Overall this is a beautiful trail and is very tranquil. Definitely would recommend it.

this hike is closed until further notice. as of July 2018

Hot today!! A bit crowded and parking was difficult.
Great hike though.

Hiked this trail last week, and I don’t believe we did all 6 miles since some parts ( near 57fwy) was closed off for construction. We entered by the street near benches. Unique trail since you do have to cross little creeks WARNING: you could slip and get your feet wet! Be careful when crossing as there areas where there’s not enough rocks. As you get closer to the freeway the uphill begins. I enjoyed it, outside getting my socks and shoes wet. Love the shade and overall views

We loved this trail! Beautiful scenery and hill almost all the way up!

RPV has limited parking here, so weekends are tough. Lots of people on the weekend. There was another review that said the heard Mountain Lions: we don't have them here, but there are coyotes.

One of my favorite areas in Santa Barbara / Goleta. Gorgeous bluffs and then an easy descent down to the beach.

The monarch trails in the forest are currently closed because the trees are dying. Check the butterfly grove website.

The waterfall is a trickle, but the trail is pretty and not crowded (if you go early).

great little trail, hike it all seasons to enjoy the changes this trail offers

Very pretty and shady out and back hike. Lots of trees and follows a stream, a lush hidden gem lined with old picturesque cabins. The falls at the end were dried up when we went due to the dry summer, but still very pretty and I imagine it’s fantastic when flowing. As others mention, the last 1/4 on the way back is unshaded and uphill - a good workout on an otherwise pretty easy trail. We brought our two dogs and they loved it. Several other dogs on the trail. Not overly crowded, but we went somewhat late (started at 3:30pm). Less people and cooler at that time.

***SIGNS STATED TRAIL WILL BE CLOSED FROM 8/24-10/1...****Entered from San Dimas Ave at the trail head by the 57.. I enjoy this hike every time I come. Sunny upon entering through trailhead but super shady within. Love how there is still water flow ( been doing waterfall hikes in Pasadena lately and they’ve been pretty dry). Not heavily trafficked. Have to admit passing the oak loop the trail seemed a lil more creepy and less trail friendly. Shrubs start overpowering your trail after about 3 miles in right about the end of it. Do recommend women to have pepper spray because I felt a lil scared myself after coming across some random creepy guy. Keep in mind if bringing children I would find a parking in between the hike maybe on puente. Not sure what street has access but the hike back up to the San Dimas entrance is a good inclined one so be ready;) 6 miles well worth the stroll.

It's a lovely Shady Trail I wish that I brought another pair of shoes though because there's a creek that runs through it and you will get your feet wet there's no way around it it's a lot harder then it looks I would think that it's more moderate than easy I usually start from the middle or parking is at which is very hard to find had to zoom out map just to find the special parking spot because the parking on Via Verde is a nightmare and very dangerous would recommend this Trail I enjoy the nice shade and starting from the middle parking lot where there's a dirt road and picnic tables

Probably best to go earlier in the day, when we set out for the hike it was after 12:00 and quite hot. It's true what they say about Rattlesnake Canyon, we saw one on the way up and one on the way down. Don't kid yourself, the rattlers are out there, be aware!

This trail doesn’t have more Rattlesnakes than any other trial in Santa Barbara (it’s just a name). The East fork is overgrown and not worth risking poison oak but the main trail is in great condition and easy to follow. Surprised to see and hear water in the creek even in late August.

This hike had a good amount of shade, which was nice when I went in August. There was a spot with waterfalls and small pools of water. Lots of dogs on this hike. Rattlesnakes are common, this hike lives up to its name! I heard about) but didn't see) a rattler at the end of this trail.

too many people not enough parking

Pretty easy going down to the waterfall only about 1.8 miles but on the return it can be a little difficult due to the incline. Plan accordingly.

nice with 4 kids

很不错的一条线路,一路树荫,这个季节山下39度,山里很凉快,就是没什么水,推荐!2-3小时走完

I really liked it here so pretty a lot of friendly people. Several trails including a long set of stairs if you want to up your game. Very close to the beach. Downside, parking is tough as the park is in s residential area. And all the trail maps do not show all trails so you can get confused on which trail you are on.

the trail was great not much water but still a great view and great pictures. but like everyone says the last part of the hike is all up hill to get back to your car so defiantly prepare for a work out

Nice day hike. Wasn’t much water at the waterfall but did find a garden snake and turtle there.

Without markers this hike was difficult to navigate and stay on target.

The waterfall itself is currently a trickle ending in a small pool. It’s still pretty. The hike to get to it was lovely, very green, lots of shady trees. Like folks have already mentioned that last half mile back up to the parking lot is rough and exposed. Almost no shade. Be prepared to sweat and get a good thigh workout. Also watch out for the gnats that follow you all the way through the hike. They wouldn’t let up!
