Magic is the only word.

backpacking

We started at 5pm on a Friday. There were plenty of spaces to park. The incline isn’t bad, it’s the distance that makes this hike difficult. By 9pm, the sun went down and it was amazing! As you look down the valley, you’ll see people starting their hikes for sunrise. We made it to the meadow/basin area in 7 hours (we had large backpacks on requiring multiple stops), slept over, started our summit at 9am. It took us 2hrs to get from the meadow to the saddle. From the saddle on is where it gets tough; if you’re scare of heights, this is where you’ll have to debate if you’ll summit or not. Pass the saddle, you’ll do a bit of scrambling to summit. It took us another hour from the saddle to the shack to summit. I highly recommend bringing a lot of water and a filter. There’s not much water on the trail, all the spring falls are dried up now.
Totaled hours hike (for a slow hiker): 14hrs.

decent quick hike. hiked in, had lunch and enjoyed the falls. easy trail with a little elevation. saw toddlers having no issue.

Nice short hike to the falls. Trail is shadded well and not super rocky but it gets over crowded real quick, so go early to avoid the crowd and to have the falls all to your self.

Fantastic hike, well worth the effort to get there. Took my 2 kids (10 & 14) and though they were tired going up, the lake was their favorite! Would definitely do this hike again. Make sure you bring 3+ liters of water! So many people on the trail today ran out while still high up. One gentleman was completely out of water on the upper switchbacks and nearly fell off a steep incline right in front of us! We were able to grab him in time, sit him down, give him some water, electrolytes and a fruit bar, and he was apparently okay, but they had no food and he looked to be in serious shock. Though a relatively short hike, it’s hot and strenuous at times. Loved it!

a fun and easy trail

Beautiful hike! We started around 9:30pm and got to the Basin around 1am. I had some altitude sickness during the last mile that added some time. We camped in the basin and watched the sunrise then headed back down. Hard hike but worth it!

Short and easy hike. The only tough part was climbing the rocks to get a better view of the falls at the top. Saw a moose (!!!!) and tons of chipmunks along the way. I went on a Sunday around 11am and it was pretty crowded, but there were still plenty of parking spots on big cottonwood canyon road. From there I walked the .75ish miles on the paved road (FR019) to the trailhead.

Great day! Enjoyed the solitude of the Beatout as well.

This is an awesome trail for a quick hike.

Anyone giving this a bad review probably just has a bad attitude.

The falls are beautiful, and there are some great views.

Sunday afternoon was a great time to do this. I only ran into a few people.

loved this hike it's a bit hard for kids but the falls at the end was awesome.

We started our hike at 8:15 this morning and didn't see many people. Tip: you can park at the trailhead though this app directs you to park along the Big Cottonwood Canyon road. If you go early there will be spaces; otherwise walk a mile to the trailhead. Bold ground squirrels were entertaining.

Tough hike. I took my 10 year old daughter on her first overnight backpacking trip. This was definitely a tough hike. Great fishing.

Bring water and something to snack on at the lake. Amazing views of the great salt lake from several areas. Wear good shoes there are a lot of rocks to scurry over on the trail all throughout the hike.

Great hike. We camped at Emerald Lake and it was a beast with camping gear. In the morning we threw on day packs and hit the summit. Amazing views.

Very nice hike. The views are incredible. And to have the stream right along the trail was awesome! Will definitely do this hike again

Took the first step at 5:30 a.m. Hit the summit in 3 hours flat, back down in 2.5. Trail was beautifully uncrowded on a Sunday morning. Found myself face to face with a couple good-sized mountain goats, but they were super chill. Pretty wiped out, but a great hike!

great all around hike not to difficult unless you want to climb up to get a closer look at the falls.

good short hike and very nice falls.

beautiful hike all the way through and the prize at the end the waterfall perfect.

did this hike today. very steep in places very beautiful wooded hike with the sound of the river always near and the falls at the end was amazing. well worth the hike.

Fun & easy hike. We parked near the main road & had to walk in on the paved road, but it was still fairly easy. You can try driving all the way to the trailhead to see if you can get a parking spot - be careful not to park in a marked spot that says no parking at any time or you’ll be ticketed (even on Sundays)
My two year old hiked all the way in with the exception of a couple rocky spots. Come willing to get a little wet & you’ll have a good time.
We hiked up to the top where you can see the actual “donut fall”. Brings lots of water & maybe even some snacks.

I love this hike. So beautiful and a great escape from the heat. Amazing views and the best reward; silver lake.

Great hike, though the smoke dampened the experience. Make sure to not stop at the first lake. There is no one at the other two if you go right as soon as you hit Lake Blanche and go to Lillian and Florence. Worth the extra mile or so. Wife and I (46 yrs old each)are in pretty good shape and are runners. We did the ascent in 1:34 and descent in 1:23, so if you are in good shape, you can comfortably do this pretty quickly and enjoyably. Would not be small child friendly IMO.

Got an early start to this hike (around 7-8) and it was a little chilly. The first 1/3 of the hike is in a beautiful aspen forest. Couldn’t get enough of the foliage! The hike then opens up and you’re able to see some beautiful views of the back of timpanogos. After a short steep section to the top, we were rewarded with a view of the amazing lake. It was around 9 at that point but the lake was warm enough that I took a quick swim. Beautiful clear lake! As we descended it got really crowded so I suggest if you want to have this lake to yourself come early.
All in all one of my favorite hikes out there.

Wonderful trail! The lake is crystal-clear. If you want to avoid crowds, go early in the morning.

Just another way to celebrate a beautiful wat to celebrate a beautiful day in Utah, with outdoors activities with friends and family.

did this hike last weekend. never found the falls but still a very fun hike.

have hiked this trail twice this summer. better each time. will be doing it again very soon.

Challenging and fun!
