Places to go, things to see! Map

Really pretty, crowded, good for families with young kids. Very short.

Well worth the hike. I enjoyed the adventure to the devil’s chair more than the chair itself though. Lots of amazing scenery to take in

my girlfriend and I loved this hike! Unfortunately our car got broken into while we were gone.

Great view and not many people

Excellent hike! Best type of hike - circular, non-repeating, with wonderful destinations at the midpoint. Also, a lot of cross-crossing trails to climb me back and explore.

Super easy family friendly hike. The narrow 5 mile road that you take there takes longer than the actual hike. A little bit of water at the falls now. The rocks up there are super slippery so watch your lils! Fun river area to explore as well. The bits of graffiti and trash we saw were a bummer! Oh, and lots of poison oak right now!

Best hike I have been on if I'm going with a water destination in mind. It's beautiful, fun, and a great workout. Going down is a piece of cake, opposed to coming back up. I wouldn't recommend going when the weather is over 100 degrees, because the hike back up to the top can be very exasperating. If you make the hike in weather that's hotter then you would like for a hike, I can't tell you enough times to hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate some more. I've been to this particular location about 5 or 6 times. Early winter isn't tooo bad, but the water crossing is extremely cold around that time of year, but it's so worth it. In any weather it's worth it. I will continue to go again & again, at all times of the year. Great hike to hang out at for the day.

Saw whales and seals (I think they were seals) therefore 5 stars

It was beautiful but it was overcast most of the time. Can’t imagine how awesome it must be on a clear day. Started at 10am and only 2 cars were in the parking lot. Didn’t see anyone until inspiration point. Great day

Was a nice hike. Takes you 30 minutes to get out there (downhill) and an hour to get back (uphill). Like the gatekeeper said, “It’s so easy a 10 year old could find it.” Although I HIGHLY don’t recommend taking your kids. After getting used to the nudists it was an enjoyable hang out spot. Everyone was friendly and we all had a blast. The springs were hot and it was nice to take a dip in the cold water down below. There was also a little swing that people were using to jump into the creek. All in all, make sure to be prepared because the hike is steep, brings lots of water, and a no judgement mentality. Just have fun! Happy hiking!~

Really great hike. Mostly dog friendly. Depending on what trail you take you will have to climb ladders. We were took Painted Canyon because it was tagged dog-friendly but the turn off of the main trail started with what looked like 15-20 ft ladder. We continued along Ladder Canyon (counter-clockwise). There were a few ladders towards the end (beginning if you take Ladder Canyon clockwise) of Ladder Canyon and it wasn’t THAT bad. That being said, I have a small pug and I climb ladders at work. We crossed paths with other families with small dogs that climbed UP and they said they had no issue.

Gorgeous scenery. Not too strenuous.

Keep in mind there are many different routes you can take to get to the vernal pool trail, but according to the map the most direct routes are the 2.4 mi out and back from the vernal pool trailhead from the parking lot on Via Volcano, or the 4.8 mi out and back using coyote to trans preserve from the hidden valley trailhead (I started here). The surrounding trails on the preserve allow for choosing longer/shorter routes depending on what you're in the mood for. This side of the preserve, dogs/bikes/horses are not allowed (however it was clear there were definitely many dogs brought on the trail before because unfortunately there was a lot of poo left behind). Also note day use fee. Trail was super muddy and a bit slippery in spots today due to rain this weekend. Loved the boardwalk at the verbal pools, although it was dry (despite rain). So many crickets today, made for great background noise for most of the hike! Maps/parking available at trail head, port a potty available at the visitors center.

So beautiful the different color rocks, we did the canyon floor, to ladder, amazing

No regrets

Went after two days of rain in LA and was met with a ton of snow on the trail. We were ready for this but it made the trail much more difficult. Really beautiful in the snow though. Several creek crossings and was easy to lose the trail a couple of times at the creek crossing and in the campground. This loop has you walking on Ángels Crest Hwy for about a mile 20-25 min)

Very nice trial, road getting there was a little scary but it was definitely worth it seeing the falls!

Loved it! Especially in the rain

I imagine it may be nicer during the week, but very crowded on a Sunday morning, even in early February. We picked up lots of trash (wrappers and empty chip bags) near the base of the waterfall :(

Very pretty but not very hard

Pretty walk for the whole family. Love the area!

I take all of my out of town guests here! It’s more of a walk than a hike if you start at the top. I usually park at the beach and climb up the hill to the “hike.” Every time I’ve been there’s seals sleeping on the rocks, it’s right before you reach the wooden bench lookout spot, if you’re walking away from Pt Dume Beach. If we can’t decide where to go for the weekend, we end up here. Stellar views!

Too many people

Awesome trail!!!

Definitely not the easiest for a first time hiker but so worth it!

Had a great time! Made a quick edit of the hike.

Great hike through the slot. Abysmal maps and trail markings once you are out of the slot canyon.

Quick hike with my dog. Beautiful waterfall at the end of the trail but there is some scrambling and crossing of streams. Overall, I enjoyed this hike in the middle of the week starting at about 11am and at the end of February! Not too hot!

Beautiful views. Easy hike. You really can’t beat the ocean views. Plenty of places to stop at a picnic bench. Trails are clearly marked. I’d give this trail 6 stars if possible. Worth way more than the 4$ parking fee.

Went in the last part of January in the late afternoon and we had the place to ourselves. Absolutely beautiful river and waterfalls. We went swimming. The road in is rough, but certainly doable in a 2 wheel drive truck or SUV.
