Nice easy ohv drive

Pretty easy with SUV, few spots you need to negotiate. nice views! May be difficult for low clearance vehicles.

The trail was hard to find and follow. Had to take a bumpy dirt road to get to the trailhead.

Hike it or 4x4 it. Some rock scramble to the right at the top. Great view of Edison lake!

Experiencing The Pinnacles: The Pinnacles are very fascinating from afar, to see the peaks in the distance is to be in awe... but much like B Lustmord states, the hikes around the pinnacles are definitely not as special. They are best experienced from a distance, where you can take them all in... Though I bet to be there at sunrise or sunset is an amazing experience!

Wildlife: We saw a bunch of zebra-tailed lizards on the drive up to the pinnacles, and a few on the pinnacles themselves. They were so fast! And very pretty... light coloration on their ribs, and zebra stripes on their tail. Very neat. When you leave, you end up noticing there are other tufa pinnacles off the sides of the main highway in fields, though they are much more sparse.

The Hike(s): Nothing is clearly marked as any one particular hike or loop. You just kind of explore at your leisure along footpaths. Some nice breezes run through despite the heat in some of the surrounding areas, which we appreciated. It is not 12 mi. The drive is counted into that distance. Once you're at the pinnacles parking lot, you're feet away from the pinnacles themselves.

The Drive: Good up to a point where the road ends up feeling more washboarded out (we were in a 2WD) and there were 2-3 deep washouts created by people who clearly must have gotten stuck in the mud and only dug themselves deeper -- so keep aware on the drive!

Nearby: Fish Rocks aren't far away when on the main highway, so those are definitely worth a visit en route or on your way back to civilization.

Good trails. Plenty of camping

It’s a fire road and very well groomed. No 4wd needed. Access to Chimney Creek Campground from 9 mile side and closer to Onyx is the turnoff for Big Foot creek and Long? campground. Nice areas for mostly tent camping. I don’t believe there are any hookups, but there are restrooms at the Chimney Peak campground.

Beginner to off roading and took the trail no problem. There were some difficult spots and some optional difficult spots. Overall, was a fun day.

Great trail for beginners. Plenty of areas for photos. Amazing range of scenery from desert hills to dense forest. View from the top is incredible! Plenty of areas to stop and take it all in.

Rather mundane and best avoided if you don't like crowds of weekend riders.

Pretty easy and quiet trail (during the week at least). It's a nice spot to get lost in, not that that is easy to do.

One of a few off-road trails in the area and it's one well worth exploring. We aim to go back and retrace our routes, though next time while tracking with AllTrails....

It's an easy trail and a god stat section for a rout you can take all the way to Isabella Lake.

The pinnacles are worth a visit but the trails to get to them are nothing special.

First time taking my suv off the road! Great trail that was well maintained with a variety of views. Just getting to the trail itself was beautiful. Vast rocky hills at jawbone canyon with plenty of dirt bike and atv trails. The climb isn’t too steep in any areas. Plenty of places to stop along the way. The views are spectacular. Early January was perfect. Brisk air with a few piles of snow at the very top but no icy patches. Takes a while to complete this drive and the end point is a dead zone, so be sure to get directions home ahead of time!

first time here, brought the wife and kids in the jeep. Easy trails, which is good as I'm new to trailing. We had a blast, I suggest when u first get here just by the bathroom is a little cave you can walk into that only goes in 15ft. 3 yr old loved climbing the rocks everytime we drove to another rock formation.

Perfect get away. Solitude, peace , open country. Tons of places to shoot and camp. Will most definitely be coming back to jawbone many many times.

The Pinnacles is worth visiting. I recognized the scenery from watching "Lost in Space" as a kid, early episode when the Jupiter II Crash landed on a planet. There are also scenes of Professor Robinson flying around wearing his jet pack, the Chariot, and the Giant who attacked them. It was so cool for me all these years later to stumble on Trona and Red Rock Canyon, and recognize these landscapes used in old TV shows I saw as a child in the Mid 1960s.

Fun, didn't take long.... unless you ask the people sitting in the bed of the truck.

Otherworldly area, bleak and deserted. The "12.2 mile trail" referenced in the listing is actually vehicle miles from the pavement to the middle of the pinnacles. There is no formal trail here, but you can wander around the rock formations with little chance of getting lost as long a you keep within sight of where you parked. Great spot for artsy photography :)

Great place to stop on the way to Death Valley. The dirt road is well maintained and I was able to make it to the pinnacles in a 2wd low clearance passenger car with no problems. You can spend as much or as little time as you want here wandering around on unmarked trails. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Easy drive and great view

I don't know if it was because of the El Niño but the ruts are deep the climbs were steep with rocks on the climbs. Holy smokes batman it was pretty awesome and it was a challenge. I loved it

You might recognize this otherworldly landscape from having seen it used as a backdrop in film and television, most notably the climax of Star Trek V. The "trail" tends to be rather informal; you basically wander around among the spires to your heart's content. For those who prefer not to get out of their cars, you can tour the pinnacles using the network of unpaved roads and tracks that crisscross the area (70% of these are not shown on the map). I was out here camping overnight on my way to Death Valley. (Primitive camping is allowed, pack-it-in, pack-it-out. There is a vault toilet in the main parking area, and fires are permitted in established fire rings - bring your own firewood). If you enjoy desert camping, or photographing weird landscapes, then this place is for you.
