Good hike great view. I dropped a small bag with my python hammock straps - if anyone finds it holler back :(

Nice start with good views and pretty scenery, but the detour is overgrown and more difficult than the rest of the trail.

I will consider this hike as moderate. You go as far as you want we only hike 2 miles we have our 4 month baby so it was a little harder. The view is just amazing.

Really beautiful especially towards the end! Went on a Thursday morning and saw maybe 1 or 2 other people. Also went in October so there was a nice breeze, the perfect temperature. I probably wouldn’t go on a hot day.

Nice hike. We got there around 0915 and parking was tight, this was a fall morning. Trail is exposed, so bring a hat and make sure to wear sunscreen. Did the Paradise Falls trail with an added leg bypassing the water treatment plant down the valley. Neat to see a water fall in the LA area this time of year, and the hike along the creek was also pleasant. Lots of families, which is always nice to see. Also passed a couple mountain bikers. Plenty of options to extend your hike, and some great views throughout the hike.

easy two mile hike
I did this hike as a night hike. beautiful And peaceful trail. once you get to the grotto you will see a bit of water. I'm assuming that when it rains, must he amazing.
avoid parking by the campsite, you will get kicked out. you can park on on the top entrance or on mullohand drive will take you straight to the trail

I've walked this trail plenty of times. Usually to take some friends that just want a simple walk in the woods that isn't too strenuous. Though it isn't my favorite. As other have mentioned parking is minimal and it is pretty congested. It's great after showers. If it wasn't for the crowd and location I would've given it another star. Bottom line: neat trail, parking sucks, initial paved road, and congestion.

plenty of things to do on the bike. has it all

Beautiful views. Great workout. Definitely very steep on the last section. Took the recommendation from a previous review to take hiking sticks which was a great help. Good hike. For sure.

This trail is ok, but not worth going out of your way for. Very dry and dusty. A few good views but throughout a lot of the trail you can still see neighborhoods. I went around sunset and ran into a large rattlesnake right near the trail! The waterfall was little and serene but very busy with other people. Probably a trail best for families.

Nice little quick hike. Seen sea lions and lizards

Nice moderate loop trail for early morning or late afternoon. Otherwise it would be very hot (not a lot of shade during the first, uphill, part of the hike if you go clockwise). Beautiful views on the way up. Lovely cool forest on the way down. Busy but not jammed on a Saturday afternoon. Parking is $10 (pay at the machine in the parking lot).

I recommend doing it counter clockwise. East side of the trail inclines slower and has a lot of shade in the morning, but also a lot of rocks. West side is nice smooth dirt trail but more exposed to the sun. So it makes sense to go up slower in the shady but rocky trial and coming down quicker on the smooth but expose part. Overall a beautiful trail with some shade.

So close to Santa Monica and lovely hike.

Amazing scenic trail. The upper falls is a challenge to get up and down but well worth the effort.

The trail was easy to follow. Plenty of directions for how to get to the falls. If you are a local and interested in taking up hiking as a hobby or are just interested in trying it, this would be a great start! It’s an easy hike. My suggestion is to do this early morning - happy hiking!

Love this trail I do this one often.

3/4 mile walk to trailhead from parking. Crossed 2 different snakes within the first .25 mile of trailhead. One was red and black

Beautiful cliff views

Get there early to enjoy a nice, cool, easy hike and a beautiful lake at the end of the trail .

great trail views are worth the medium effort

Great hike your heart rate climbs as you get moving along hikers friendly and helpful
Take plenty of water not much shade in places

Definitely a fun hike. Not very challenging in the beginning but does get difficult if you want to climb to the second waterfall. The worst part is how far you have to park before the hike even starts. The main trail is mostly covered so it’s not as hot. As dude to the best the waterfall is nonexistent. If you want to see water you should wait until a big storm, which in SoCal rarely happens. We went with our two year old and made it just fine. Enjoy and be sure to drink plenty of water.

Great trail. All the hard work is done in the first couple miles. As other reviews have said, the driving directions are a bit off. Park at the Tapia Trailhead parking lot.

Steep incline pretty much the entire way up. As others have mentioned, the last .88 miles are KILLER (and that's just the last .88 within the park boundary; another quarter-mile of so up to the actual peak on private property is also fairly tough). Take it slow and steady. There were several parts where I kept thinking "This has got to be the peak!" but it keeps going so don't get your hopes up and just keep pushing through. The top is a nice place to take a break, maybe have a picnic before you head back down. The way down is rough on the knees, so take hiking sticks and take it slow (I slipped a few times!).

Lots of birds and we saw some deer on the way up to the trailhead. There are bathrooms at the campsites before the trailhead, but they were swarming with flies and bees, so maybe not worth it!

A tough hike for the novice hiker. Only 2.5 miles to the top but an elevation change of almost 2,000 ft. I think I was stopping every 50 ft the last .88 miles just to catch my breath, I blamed that on the elevation and not the fact that I'm not in the best of shape. We did see some deer on the drive into and out of the park and lots of birds on the trail. Words of advice, bring plenty of water, take your time and enjoy the climb.
