great, nicely maintained trail. The whole area is nice epecially for it's location near the shore. it's worth a visit and if you don't won't to climb to the top you can drive there still with access to all the other trails.

Great run! I would recommend starting counterclockwise.

I would have been quite happy with 500' elevation gain, which isn't so easy to find, so when my AT summary said 600' I was pleasantly surprised! It took 4.5 miles. Perfect place to get some hill runs in.

This was marked by someone who has never hiked. I don’t have any other explanation. The first time I went around I got off trail about 4 times I had to backtrack and by the end lost the trail completely, ended up on someone’s driveway and took that out. I thought I could go the opposite way to see where I went wrong and instead ended up taking a big circle back to the parking lot.
I have been hiking for over 30 years and never had a more frustrating experience than this loop. The blue seems what you follow when you start and then the yellow comes out of nowhere. There are probably 50-100 trails that branch off for access from peoples homes.
I wanted to love this because it’s so close to home but it’s awful and I’ll only ever go back for kayaking.

I definitely enjoyed hiking here. lots of nice trails to explore

Fun for kids!

If you feel as though you aren’t seeing marks on the trees, don’t worry, keep looking...especially if you see many fallen trees around!

I did an out/back to royalston falls. Mostly flat with some minor inclines/declines close to the falls. The shelter is in relatively good shape with some trash littered around outside and mice inside who will steal your food if you leave it out. I would recommend for a moderately difficult overnight trip.

Rocky Woods is a wonderful, quiet spot to enjoy nature - and that on the edge of a heavily settled area. I’ve explored these trails many, many times and always find it restorative.

I did a run around the ring trail, goose foot, cedar trail, vulture’s view, back to ring trail. The trails are in good shape and I got a nice workout.

Nice wide and well marked trails. The woods were nice but the view at the peak was nothing special. It was a nice afternoon walk in the woods!

Awesome

Walked from redemption rock both ways on the trail.. hilly on the north side of 140 the trail is skinny in some places with a heavy canopy (nice for summer) but well marked. Good for dogs that are leased trained and friendly.. not heavy traffic and surprisingly was not very buggy.

Well kept trails, great variety of terrain, dotted with ponds. Be sure to take a map! So many trails, you can make it a different hike every time.

Easy trail, beautiful field with wildflowers. Clean and not crowded, dog friendly. Relaxing walk!

You can call this trail moderate but after you do it you won’t feel that way, lots of short bursting ups and downs that over time will take their toll. Secluded except for the occasional motorbike / ATV that roars through illegally. This happens because of the primitive nature of the area, and the fact that over 20 years ago it was a known destination for 4 wheeling clubs.. so ignorant fathers who once rode there legally as a kid bring their kids out there thinking it is still ok. It’s not FYI the state of CT out it’s foot down on this. If you come across these 4 wheelers make you let them know this is no longer a permitted activity.

I guess after all is said and done this is the risk you take when you attempt to hike this loop.. might be better off heading south into the Yale forest and get on the Nipmuc trail there, that forest is beautiful and the ridge at Boston Hollow is killer. Not as strenuous as breakneck pond. Google it.

Finally - bigelow hollow is a mob scene on the weekends in the summer - ethnic groups have been gathering in hoards that leave a lot of trash around and make it difficult to enjoy the solitude of nature with their loud music and sheer #s of gatherers. I respect all people, but many aren’t aware of today’s norms for respecting these parks and the wilderness. They come to the wilderness equipped as if their were having a barbecue party on the beach..

Asked about the trailhead when we arrived and ranger said the mosquitos and ticks were really bad. He advised us not to do the hike with our kids.

Great to do with keep kids. Saw so many birds at the top.

awesome hike. went straight up vultures perch. then to summit two great woods multiple kinds of terrain, well marked and kept trails. can't wait to do it again

Nice and wet but the rain held off today. This is a great place to hike/run even in the rain. Did both summits and saw a beautiful doe/deer deep in. She caught my eye...then she was gone!

Fun hike around Breakneck pond.

Trail was okay... there is a lot of paved road, but the smaller trails off the main road are nice. Also some cool Geocache spots if you’re into that!

Very easy walk but a nice one. Great park, great view, only moderately buggy on July 9.

Descent loop if you’re looking for exercise, but not a lot to see here. The trail only follows the pond for a short section, other than that it’s pretty uneventful. Towards the end (or beginning for some), you have to cross a parking lot and walk on the road for a while. Near the parking lot there is a lot of interesting sculptures to check out. All in all it was a good loop, but not my favorite.

The trail is scenic and its around 8 miles. Follow the yellow markings on trees as the trails are not marked well. Shoutout to the app the map and gps tracking helped us. There are too many mosquitoes, carry insect repellant and hiking gear.

Ward Trail is some paved and clear path. On Vetter watch out for he poison ivy and oak. This time of year lots of flying bugs, so a little deet not bad idea

Did this trail 7/8/18. It is well marked and really nice. thd bluff overlook is awesome. be sure to stop in the building for a map. The woman at the desk was very helpful. I will be back.

Nice hike through the woods. The view at the top is beautiful. Perfect picnic spot. There is a little nature museum as well that is super kid friendly. Also you can drive to the top as well if you want to start there
