Easy. Nice

Wear a swimsuit and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. We took the road to the left of the steep to view the falls. Then walked until we could go no further without trespassing. It was fun to explore, plus we saw a lot of horses in the road. But nothing else to see beyond the clear view of the falls. Going back towards the road to the black sand beach was very muddy. The black and beach is gorgeous and the sand is so soft. if you like to walk barefoot in the sand I suggest bringing a small towel to clean your feet before you put your sneakers back on to hike back up. The steep road down is about 1 mile , but feels like 2 miles going back up. With the humidity and getting waist deep wet to cross to the other side of the black sand beach; I was sweaty once we returned to the Waipio Lookout. I was so glad I had packed a dry pair of clothes to change into in the car. Overall we spent about 3.5 hours hiking and enjoying nature there. So beautiful!

It's okay, that's how I can honestly best describe it. Not many good views and very short. You're better off doing this loop and then going to the Pipwai trail for a better hike. Pools are closed to swimming as well, so unless they open it back up, don't even think about that.

Gorgeous colors, breathtaking views. Small black sand beach where you can take a dip, as well as areas to camp (permit required). Was a bit crowded on the beach, but the trail was great. Must see!

This is not a hike but it is a pretty Falls. You cannot get down to the actual water. There are rails to prevent that.

Okay falls, no hiking allowed

Nice to see and we are happy that we did it but nothing special. Very easy walk.

Make sure to jump off the first waterfall! Look for hidden trails cut into twining branches of sprawling trees. Don’t stop at the second waterfall. Take the scramble with the ropes generously provided by a benevolent hiker to the top of the fall and
enjoy.

An absolute delight start to finish.

Tips: take lots of water (I drank 6 liters); start early in the morning (I started at 8:45); go West to reach the farthest west of the valley and cross at the sandbar where it is only thigh deep; go east to see Kuluahine Falls—hug the coastline until you reach it (it will go out of view before you get there); take your time going back up to take in the fauna and views and if you’re lucky (like I was) you’ll see wild horses

Wouldn‘t call this a hike! Very short and easy. Pools look cool, but I would definitely recommend to do the Pipiwai Trail next to it, which is even more amazing!

No a hike, just a parking lot with a waterfall.

Not much of a hike but an absolutely amazing waterfall! Unfortunately your not able to get very close to it but definitely worth checking out.if your spending any time on the big island.

The falls are nice, the hike there is super easy, in total a nice experience

Lots of people! Still beautiful though.

Quick and fairly easy hike. Beautiful views!

Heavily trafficked small, but worth doing! The waterfall is beautiful, so have your swimsuit ready!

The path is a paved loop. I’m glad we started right because we witnessed the lush rainforest then worked our way towards the waterfall. I realize the beauty of paved paths is you don’t have to watch your step (as much) and you can actually take in your surroundings. The path takes you by rivers, bamboo, flowers, lookouts, and other sights.

We did get a few bug bites the size of quarters, which itched for almost a week. It’s been over a week now and they’re still there though smaller. Yes, we wore bug spray.

Shouldn’t get wet on this trail, as it’s far from the fall itself. Sometimes you’re in a canopy and sometimes open air. The hike is easy. I took my grandpa and he loved it.

The entrance fee is cash only but there’s an atm. There is a bathroom onsite too. My uncle asked for the dried bananas sold off the road to here, so those must be good.

Enjoy!

Amazing. looks like a popular access point for swimming at the base of the falls. Lots of locals at the bridge where everyone parked. you can hike past where the swimming hole is which takes you up to the falls you see from the bridge. if you take overgrown trails to the right off the main path you'll find a smaller set of falls. lovely hike, lots of careful climbing. I could see how someone can surprise you on this trail. A local hiker covered in tribal tats and carrying a backpack crossed paths with me while sitting at the edge of a tidepool. Was a Friendly type.

Absolutely beautiful. I wouldn’t consider it as much of a hike as it is a lookout. That said, worth the stop. Please stay on the main trail, as you could be fined for walking off, but more importantly it keeps you and the local ecosystem safe. The right is wheelchair friendly, the left requires stairs (the right is a better view of the falls anyways). There is a bathroom and seems highly trafficked, but it was easy for us to take pictures around the people.

Beautiful overlook. This is a two level overlook - there is no trail at all.

Enjoyable loop. Lots to see, so nobody complained about the climb coming out.

Great location. This location is great for cliff diving, there are a few small beach areas. The location is in a small river inlet that is enclosed by rocks from the ocean. When there is little rain run off sometimes the water can be kind of gross from plant matter.

Easy waterfall, just walk out of the parking lot to see it. Cool Banyan trees at the top of the falls.

lots of people. beautiful falls. bring water shoes.

Really nicely maintained trail with paved paths through lush and beautiful rainforest. It was a short trail, but I think it's a must-do if you're visiting Hawaii. You can only see the falls from a distance though, so don't expect to get too close... You won't get wet.

quick and easy. very beautiful. check in advance if swimming is open (was not for us in July).

Beautiful!!! The beaches and lava rocks are amazing. Not a hard hike at all. amazing to experience!
