Pike Ntl Forest Map

Awesome hike! Went up in November 2018, trail was pretty icy / snowy but could hike it in sneakers (did a lot of butt slides on the way down). The fire tower is well worth the hike and then the climb when you reach it.

Getting to the trail head was very very bumpy and slow moving in some spots.

Did the whole loop today (middle of winter). Was difficult going through the snow, but became one of my favourite trails. Picks in incline but worth it when you get to the very top. 5/5 would recommend. Will revisit during spring.

Directions were accurate to TH. Starts in the burn area but quickly drop int the woods along Goose Creek. Good trail conditions all the way to the historic buildings. Just as much up and down coming and going, good training trail. Links up with other trails in the wilderness.

Lovely hike through the forest. Best views are in the first mile and then it’s about enjoying the serenity of the forest. Follows and crosses the stream which is mostly frozen at this time of year. Trail was well broken, mostly packed snow the whole way, some bare spots. Could do it with boots, traction was helpful. Could use snowshoes but not necessary. Made it to the 4 mile mark where it flattens out and there are some nice logs to sit on for a snack.

Took family there to snowshoe Dec 29, 2018. Was a beautiful hike, though not enough snow to merit needing snowshoes. Would love to return in summer

Fun hike near Denver. With half the population of the front range. Parking can fill up early.

This was a perfect New Year’s Day hike! Literally were the only people there. Need 4 wheel drive for the ride up, spikes or snowshoes for the hiking recommended by not needed. Loved it!!

Nice loop. Expansive views.
Walking CW the elevation change is steeper than hiking CCW.

This trail was closed.

long hike but well worth the veiw from the top did it in sept had nice weather

Great escape from the city, as I did not see a single soul on my entire hike. The trailhead was not exactly right across the street from the parking lot as my map had indicated. Look for the gate in the fence.

I went to hike this yesterday morning/early afternoon (12/7/2018) and the road we came in on was closed about 6 miles out. I did not try to loop around to the west nor did I head back east to go over and up and see if that pass was open. Beware.

Randomly came across this trail with my dog and we're glad we did. It was very quiet, peaceful. Saw one other car parked at the gate and one set of footsteps in the snow. Otherwise, the paths were mainly fresh snow so we knew we were alone. Good views if you decide to go off trail a little.

Getting snow-packed in shady areas, with occasional ice. I didn’t need microspikes.....which is good since I didn’t have them with me.

Not at all crowded this morning. My dog and I saw seven people and nine dogs.....all friendly.

Nice snowshoe. Easy to follow and I had it mostly to myself on a Tuesday morning. Didn’t need snowshoes or traction until a mile in.

Pleanty of incline and finishes that with stairs that seem to go on, on. You are rewarded with views that go on forever & an old fire tower that is very cool to see. Very nice hike with many photo opts. Did this hike in July/18 and it was very busy but perfect weather.

Varying views and terrain. Great hike to take your four legged companion

Really enjoyed that this was a quiet trail- the downside is that most of the big views you are afforded are because of a power line that cuts through the landscape:/ Always a good day for a hike... but the quietness of this trail is probably the main reason I would have in coming back.

Hiked this trail on 11/10. Like the other two posts mentioned the trail is significantly covered in ice and snow with a decent amount of foot traffic. Be prepared to slide and have a few good wipeouts. The views along the trail are spectacular and I’m looking forward to going back again in the spring, summer and/or fall when the aspen leaves are changing. And yes the 30min drive on the dirt road is pretty rough, but if my Sentra can do it then all other vehicles can also.

Hiked this trail 11/10/18. The 9 mile road, like others mentioned, is pretty rough but it was well worth the hike! There’s plenty of great viewing spots on the way to the lookout station. The only thing I’d note is that it was pretty icy when I went. Many people (myself included) were sliding and took some bad falls. However, if you’re prepared for the icy conditions it’s well worth the drive for the 360 views of mountains.

Some of the best views from any trail in Colorado. Before I got to the trail head I had a bear run across Rampart Range Road in front of me, he was a light brown color. Hiked on 9 Nov 18, started about 0900, temp was 27 degrees at the trail head. Trail is almost totally covered in snow and ice, wear crampons or micro spikes so you don't fall. The stairs to the top are mostly snow/ice covered, best hang on tightly on the way up and down.

I am a big fan of this hike. However some do not like it because of the lack of trees due to a fire many years ago. I like the surreal landscape and the long views of Mount Evans and Pikes Peak. The Chair Rocks at the end are a great place to have lunch with awesome views and a unique surrounding. While a bit ling, there are no steep inclines on this hike. This hike also stays pretty quiet. We only saw two bikers the entire hike. Keep in mind that because of the lack of trees you are exposed throughout most of the hike so be prepared for whatever the weather.

Absolutely loved this hike!

Easy hike with incredible views. dog friendly and not busy. The 9 miles of dirt road are a little rough, but we managed in our Honda Civic.

Easy, family friendly...best views I’ve seen yet!

Loved it! Soooo beautiful!! View was breathtaking!

Great hike. Breathtaking views from the top. Worth the climb up to the tower at the end of the hike.

Took the dogs and kids. Amazing drive up, beautiful views. It’s a must.

Nice hike! Got there a little after eight and there were a few cars in the lot but I only saw three or four other people on my way up. A little icy about 3/4 of the way to the top but I did ok in just sneakers, just had to go a little slow on the way back down. Lovely views all around from the lookout. Seems like a good one to bring visitors to as it’s not too long but you get great views at the end.

The road is bumpy — you’ll definitely get jostled in a few places — but my Honda Accord made it up no problem and the beautiful drive through the forest more than made up for the bumps.
