This is one of the most popular hikes in the Smokies, and you can usually tell from the parking lot! It was quite busy when I went on a rainy Friday morning in March. The trail is paved but somewhat steep. The falls are really pretty! But be prepared for lots of people and potentially makeshift parking.

Wonderful for a family stroll. Nice place for kids to play in the water. People not wearing masks but was not crowded so able to stay distanced

Great hike to start the day. We arrived around 9am and had the trail to ourselves most of the way until we were arriving back to the car. Definitely gets busier around 10/11 or so. All of my kids (8,7,4) managed this with ease and loved the falls.

We enjoyed this hike with our three kids (ages 4 to 10). It is a steady upward hike to the falls over an often broken paved walkway. The steepness of the first half of the trails was a bit challenging for our 4 year old, especially because there aren’t good places to rest. Some parts are so narrow (with cliff-like drops on one side) or broken up that it is not ideal for strollers or groups who enjoy spreading out to walk together. There are several really gorgeous scenic views of the mountains higher up on the trail. The falls are BEAUTIFUL, but there isn’t much space to sit and enjoy them (even if there had not been so many other hikers). We visited on a cool, rainy morning and there quite a lot of other people hiking.

It has a significant elevation gain spread out over the 1.3 mile hike up to the falls. the pavement is broken up for the majority of the hike. it would be hard to push a stroller to the falls. It is a very pretty hike and the waterfall is worth the hike. Parking can be a problem, it is a very popular trail. we went after 6pm on a Friday night and the trail was not very busy!

This paved trail led to a pretty waterfall but was very very crowded. With the traffic this path sees it would be nice to have a bathroom at the trailhead.

Easy hike for great views! We read the previous comments and were so glad we did - beware of the drive to the trailhead, definitely thankful to have 4WD. Would love to see this spot in bloom or summer!

HikingGreat!

We attempted to do the Max Patch + Buckeye Ridge trail. It was a lot of fun and pretty easy hiking, but I missed a connection to complete the figure eight trek. I figured it out once I got back home and looked over the map again. I was thinking that the buckeye ridge trail was a loop, but I fact it ends in nowhere in the woods near the AT. I should have reconnected to the AT to finish the hike back to the summit. But the views from the top of Max Patch are 100% incredible and worth the trip up the long gravel road. I would love to go back and do it again right this time, and I would take my pups. Great trails to bring them along.

The waterfall is beautiful. The trail is too manmade for my taste (much of it is paved but in bad shape for a paved trail) and LOTS of people. We were there on an Easter Sunday but didn’t arrive until around 4PM so parking was not a problem - I hate to think how hard parking would have been and how crowded the trail would have been even 1-2 hours earlier!!

HikingGreat!

We drove from I40, and it was 9 miles of gravel. There were some deep ruts which would be difficult for a 2WD. We have a 4WD and had no problems. You have a choice of which direction to start for the loop, and I suggest going to the left. It is an easy incline to the top where as the right is deceiving. It is flat for a while and than a 1/2 mile up with stairs. On top of the patch, great place to have a picnic and soak in the views. I would come back to visit!

great for the whole family. The view is beautiful along the stream. The kids could even play in parts of the stream. I saw many people fishing, also very dog friendly.

Way too crowded. The sights were pretty but I felt I couldn’t stop to take pictures or admire anything as there was a full line up behind and in front of me. We did go during our spring break which was likely part of the problem.

The trail is great beautiful views, and my four paw baby can be on it. I haven't been until today since the pandemic, and was surprised to see all the trash along the road side. One other big issue was dog poop where owners don't clean up after their pets and four small bags where they had cleaned up but just left them sitting. Wish more people practiced leave no trace.
