A great trail that's quite a fun uphill journey toward the iconic Tom's Thumb. There were a fair bit of people, but parking was still good early in the morning.

This is a great beginner hike to get in shape.

This trail had a lot of variance - desert, open vistas, creek crossing, and woodland. Because of that it's one of my fav's. It's special to walk along that creek - just lovely.

Classic Arizona hike that all should do at least once. Well marked, great valley views and a good workout. We completed in less than 2 hours and that’s including breaks to admire the view. Go in the morning, when at least part of the trails are still in some morning shade.

Great views! Nicely groomed trail. Saw lots of lizards.

The perfect scenic trail. Never crowded so you get the place to yourself.

This was a great trail! Difficult but not too hard, we will definitely be back!

I've heard people in my hiking group argue that this isn't a real hike, which I think is ridiculous. Their argument is that because this trail has a lot of placards along the way, identifying plants, it's more of a walk. I disagree - if you complete this trail to the end, there is absolutely some decent cardio. And, although there is no need to climb rocks, this is a trail that still requires grippy shoes because the texture of the trail is small gravel and loose dirt.
Views are nice, however all are of surrounding neighborhoods - you're not in a remote location, where you'll see minimal signs of life.
I like this trail because it enables me to maintain a decent cardio pace. It goes up, down, up, down. Then you return. This is why it's one of my fav hikes, and I go fairly regularly - it enables me to maintain a decent cardio.
This trail is well maintained with a staffed station at the entry, complete with bathrooms.
There are a lot of parking spaces, and typically I am able to easily park near the trailhead.

Good hike with lovely views both up and down the mountain. Be sure to keep going, because, at the top, the first large rock outcropping you approach is not Tom's Thumb. You'll need to walk around that to get to Tom's Thumb.
I hiked this trail on one of Phoenix's first over 80-degree days, thus got lucky to see a Diamondback on trail. It made the hike that much more meaningful.
This trail is well maintained, wide enough to accommodate people passing each other.

Nice hike, easy and quiet.

My favorite hike so far. Very moderate steep incline for a while but after you get passed that it is easy. The views from the top are the best in Phoenix in my opinion. Very pretty, worth the hike for sure.

Beautiful mountainous hike up a steep slope.

I hiked This trail today with my 61 year old father, 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son.
We absolutely loved it! I would suggest wearing sunscreen and a hat. Bring more water than you think you’ll need

Good hike. Was pretty flat in the very beginning leading up to the incline then it gets pretty steep as the trail progresses. Cool view at the top of the 3,848 foot mountain including Scottsdale Airport and the greater Phoenix valley area (downtown and Camelback Mountain) to the southwest and the greater desert area to the north and northeast.

Fun trail to run! Some good climbs in the beginning middle and end. Amazing to do first thing at sunrise.

Cool thank you

Fun trail to hike or run! Beautiful views in all directions. Lots of elevation changes to keep your heart pumping. Gorgeous desert vegetation and landscapes and lots of reptiles if you look closely.

Hello fellow hikers, I hiked this peak on a cloudy day of mid June’18 with tiny drizzle. Its a beautiful hike through the ascend and descends of two peaks. I could spot name plates of well maintained biology. I must say, the Authority folks are doing their job very well. Its a easy hike and not a loop.
P.S - carry the water cans placed at entrance for pick up and drop at designated spots if you can, that shall help water and nourish the biology en route the trail.
Happy hiking and good health!

This is an amazing trail... it’s a great workout and definitely a substitute for interval training.

First time walking this trail and I loved it. A leg workout for sure, first part is a little tough but gets easier up top. This is a huge hiking area so I did not have too much time to explore side trails as much I would love too. Definitely returning and exploring more. Highly recommend this trail! Bring plenty of water! I was almost out walking down the hill.

Took us 1 hour up, 50 minutes down. The trail is easy to follow. This is a leg workout! Great views at the top and along the way. We started the trail at 6 am and the temperature was perfect. You do get some shade in the middle of the hike too, at the hour we went.

Good hike! It goes up and down twice, so basically hiking two mountains simultaneously as both are connected from east to west. The end and beginning of the end was definitely the most strenuous part, but definitely one that can be accomplished in 2 hours from start to finish. Moderate level hike.

Good, worthwhile jaunt if you’re a Valley resident. If you’re a visitor there are better ones to do.

First of all, I’d definitely recommend doing the hike. Very clearly marked. Well maintained. Beautiful view — I did mine at sunset and it was amazing.

My watch registered this hike at just a shy under 5 miles. And, it was a tad harder than I had anticipated it would be.

The first .25 miles are nothing but a walk through the desert. The next .75-1 mile was essentially straight incline - you think you’re done a bunch of times. Tons of switch backs. Very little relief. The last .75 was a mixture of ups and downs but since you can see your destination it’s not bad at all.

I’d strongly suggest not going in the heat of the sun.

Pretty easy Terrain. Good for all ages. Some harder elevation at the end but you finish on a mile of decline.

Beautiful hike and very well marked and maintained trail
