This is my first time hiking camelback Mountain! I’m disabled and it was brutal! I made it 50 or so feet from the top. But didn’t feel safe scaling the rocks to the top. I’d be willing to try the echo canyon trail, I’m told it has more support. It’s definitely a challenge both physically and mentally. The energy of the mountain is definitely different! It’s super crowded! I’m still wrapping my mind around it

I enjoyed this with my 6 year old. Sun was pretty brutal mid day, for being December, and very little shade. Not too busy and beautiful views from the top. Moderate is a good rating for this trail.

Trail is xtremely well traveled. Rated hard but with the well groomed and placed steps, handholds and rails its overrated. I'd say it's an easy hike with plenty of opportunity to stay safe for fit individuals. Big falls possible if careless or weak. Lower body injuries will require rescue and dehydration is most risky factor. Slippy gravel at times recommended grippy soles.

Did this hike today and it took about 2 hours, maybe a little more. It was a solid workout, but I didn't find it that challenging (I'm a 21 year old that doesn't usually work out, but I do hike often). Took a friend who had no hiking experience, and for that, it was a perfect level of difficulty. The trail was moderately to heavily trafficked and well-marked; you could never get lost. Dobbins Lookout has incredible views, although it is pretty crowded. Not a bad hike, but nothing to write home about either.

Hiked this about a month ago and the weather was (and still is) perfect. The first half on the way up is challenging and steep, but after that it's pretty easy climbing to the summit. Would definitely recommend using the lookout points to catch your breath and drink lots of water. This probably wouldn't be where I take a novice for a first hike. The views were absolutely incredible though! Most of the trail is in the sun. Would say it's moderately trafficked and well-marked, I doubt anyone could get lost. The parking lot is right at the trailhead, with restrooms and water; the park is really clean and well-maintained. Definitely plan on coming back soon!

Nice hike. Great to do during December. Not many hikers. Cool breeze. Easy hike with beautiful vista of the lake. If your lucky you’ll see the wild burrows. Head to Dillons for BBQ after the hike. Note- your entrance fee does not get you into the entrance for the main marina, which is privately owned and not operated by Maricopa County Parks.

The views are awesome!
Good challenge, but really crowded and people don’t yield:(

Echo Canyon is a great workout, no question. A little scrambling the last part and of course 'the rails' will test you but they aren't nearly as bad as they are reputed to be. It's a great morning hike late in the season because the last part has a lot of shade. Is it harder than the Cholla trail? Overall in my opinion no. There are some challenging spots but all in all I feel it's slightly easier.

Parking sucks, no question. Best bet is to get a ride to and from unless you want to camp out on McDonald in the wee hours of the morning hoping for a spot.

Great little trail and not very crowded. Pretty views at the top. Trail is a little rocky and narrow on the ascent to the peak, but nothing overly daunting.

Challenging trail, but safe. If you are looking for 45 min aerobic workout (on the way up), then this is the right trail for you

Up, up and up some more. With all the climbing you earn the views.

Excellent

Steady elevation increase and switchbacks from base to summit ( lookout point ). Moderately trafficked mornings before 8 AM during Summer weekends. Traffic increases during Fall and Winter. A nice morning snack is good when sitting within lookout point area and taking in the view of Phoenix valley. Dog owners are good about having leashes and picking up after their dogs. Stay hydrated with about 1 to 1.5 liters of water / sports drink ( Gatorade, Powerade )in fall and winter, hydrate even more during summer.

A great workout with beautiful views all along the way. This is a gravel trail with good inclines so you can definitely break in your trekking poles. Reaching Tom’s Thumb felt very accomplishing and was well worth the hike. Very friendly people on the trail. Bring plenty of water. I will hike this again!

Nice trail but a bit rocky. Had to take it slow on the way down. Today was kind of hazy, so the views weren't as great as I had hoped. My app said it was over 5 miles.

Always a tough hike but rewarding at the top

Expected it to be a little harder than it was but great views nonetheless. Would definitely would reccomend a sunrise start!

This was my first “hard” rated hike and I was glad I explored so many moderates before doing this one. It’s a strange hike set in a pattern of stairs. I came in pretty cocky and thought it’d be cake, but every time I thought I was near the top, I’d have even further distance to travel. I felt pretty accomplished when I got to the top.

There are aspects of the climb where you’re using your hands to pull yourself up and find yourself scrambling, so it’s smart to get comfortable with aspects of that before tackling this trail. I’m pretty sure I took summit straight through, but between the trek to my car and the climb, I clocked 5 miles. Not sure how that happened.

The parking is a mess. Summit’s lot is closed until next summer.

Wow, this has to be the prettiest trail in the Phoenix area. The rocks are amazing! But wow, what a climb! Kicked my butt! 4.2 miles took me 3 hours. 2 hours up, 20 minute rest on top and 40 minutes down. But what breathtaking views!

1 mile hike to trail from the north entrance. Then, elevations and smooth hiking trail, not very rocky.

Great hike. Harder and more challenging than anticipated but well worth it. I recommend a backpack for water so you can use both hands to climb up the harder parts.

Great trail it gradually gets harder closer to the top

Nice quick jaunt up and back. Trail maps provided at the trailhead, but trail was easy enough to follow.

Came mid-day and managed to park relatively close. Did Camelback the day before and Piestewa seemed much easier. Perfect weather for my two day stay in Phoenix.

Decided to give it a shot in the mid-afternoon instead of super early in the AM. Got a nice parking space and didn't have to twiddle my thumbs behind slowpokes or get trampled by speed demons. I think I passed about 10 people and was passed by about 10 people. Guess that makes me pretty average.

Very nice view at the top!

This trail did not disappoint! I am in decent shape and huffed and puffed up this sucker...lots of stops to enjoy the scenery” aka catch my breath, but the views going up and at the top are 100% worth it! I chose this over Camelback for a Sunday afternoon and it could not have been more perfect! Highly recommended!

Hiked Camelback in Feb 2018. Great workout. Fun and challenging climb. Beautiful view at the top.

Tougher at start but lightens up. Views are wonderful!

Hard but worth the effort!
