Great winter trail! We used micro spikes most of the way up then switched to snow shoes when we got close to the top. Saw a lot of ptarmigans and had a fun slide back down the mountain!

HikingSnow

We went on October 18th which was the first day of snowfall. This is a classic hike, takes 3 hours and goes straight up. 100% I reccommend spikes on fresh snow fall, I basically slid down the mountain which is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5. In the summer its sandy and rocky so if you fall in the winter you might land on some rough rocks. You dont need a lot of experience, just have to be careful with your footing and ice! Fantastic views when its clear out and lots of flat ground at the top to walk around and relax after putting in that work.

Beautiful day on the trail. Great views and some fresh blueberries for the picking. A bit muddy but doable.

Trail was in good shape after the recent rains we’ve have. Gets very steep right before the summit but oh so worth the leg burn to get to the top. The views were tremendous all around from the top. If you haven’t done it yet you should put it on your list.

trail is steep with loose footing on the steepest section near the top. Muddy section near begining before it gets steep. Not recommended for wet weather. One person was wearing Katulas on the way down in summer to avoid slipping in the loose trail surface - good planning. Outstanding views from top of bear point/ bear mountain. good workout

Awesome hike! Small patch of mud in the beginning, but it’s nothing crazy. Absolutely worth the strenuous parts to see the views. Walking along the ridge is beautiful and I will definitely be back!!

First time doing this trail. It’s a leg burner, pretty much straight up. Muddy in a couple of places, but not bad. Once you get to the top you could spend awhile just checking out all the different view points.

First time on this trail and it went STRAIGHT UP!!! Totally worth the views once we got to the top. Hiked with my husband and 3 kids (ages 13, 12, 11). Was a little muddy at the lower part of the trail but passable with all the logs other hikers have thrown down.

Slight mud, somewhat steep, but don’t need to scramble at all so that’s nice! Great hike that my dog enjoyed

Great hike!!! Beautiful views of mount eklutna, pioneer peak, east twin peak, the butte and so much more! The views are incredible and so much to explore at the top. When you get to the trailhead, keep right on the path and about .10 miles in you’ll see root stairs to the left. That’s where the trail winter bear mountain starts. Very minimal snow at the top and slightly muddy.
