on Red Top Lookout Trail

First time on this hike and it was worth it. The road is bumpy and lots of potholes. The trail was only a half a mile up from the parking lot. Incline is steep but not super challenging to get up. There was a layer of snow coming up the road and some snow at the top of the lookout. I’d definitely be going back again. The view was clear and crisp up there.

Nice quick day hike. Go early to avoid crowds.

Close to town. Good views and easy parking.

Very tough climb since it’s a steep incline the whole way up and Lots of bugs BUT worth EVERY bead of sweat for the view and experience. Make sure to plan for an hour or two to hang out once you reach the top to enjoy the experience.

on Minotaur Lake Trail

Great trail, steep climb in the first 3/4 of the trail going up, but then levels out a bit to a short trek up before getting to the lake. As a marathon swimmer and relatively new hiker currently experimenting with hike-in/backcountry swimming, the elevation gain was definitely more grueling for me than others on the trail. Slow but steady with lots of water and breaks, made it to Minotaur and what a sight to see! Completely worth it where I enjoyed a wonderful half hour swim in the lake, 38F, beautiful underwater topography. Would be an ideal spot for dual day backcountry swimventure hitting up Lake Theseus on day 2 (don’t forget to go up to the ridge line to view that one). Overall great hike, very much worth it and will absolutely be back!

Rainy snowy hike to the lakes. The trail up to the lake is steep and muddy. It was lightly snowing at the lake. Little snow patches along the lake nothing that isn’t manageable. Tried to go up to labyrinth mountain but had to turn back 1/4 of the way to the summit just shortly after following the creek up just before the last push to the summit across a boulder field. There is a lot of snow up here and no sign of a trail. We had to use Gps most of the way past the lakes weaving on and off what we think was the trail. Crossing the boulder field was to dangerous as there was snow covering the rocks and we couldn’t see below. Didn’t want to risk breaking an leg falling between the boulders. Not much of a view anywhere since it was raining and snowing. Winter has come. Won’t be long before these lakes won’t be accessible till summer again.

In my opinion, very boring. It's the same view of the valley the entire way up, it just gets smaller every 10 ft. you go higher. It's in the sun the entire time which sucks for my pasty white ass.

Good exercise, if you're into that.

Great hike. The trail had a good amount of people when I went and was in good condition. Pretty easy to follow. There is definitely some good gain most of the way, so you'll get a nice thigh/butt work out! I enjoyed walking on the ridge at the top to the opening at the end and being able to see the town and mountains all around you. You could definitely see the falls colors in the mountains scattered here and there.

Great hike. Views are spectacular

Went a few years back. Tough climb me and my friends went past Minotaur lake down to Thesis lake(the hard way) and tried to climb up the rock face to labyrinth mountain... almost died do not recommend what we did... stay on the trail!

Steep. Short. But beautiful views once you get to the top! Must have a vehicle with good clearance to get to trail head. Some people parked and walked the road however. Once you turn off highway... make sure you turn up the hill before you get to residential area. I was chewed out for going too fast and driving past the “residential” signs. Oops!

Beautiful autumn foliage along the trail. The trail is in good shape. Signs of the previous fire everywhere. Nice view of Leavenworth on the top.
It's still quite hot in the afternoon when the sun is hitting directly. Not much shade.

Very steep, grueling climb, but the payoff was totally worth it. Minotaur Lake is beautiful and pristine... and just over the ridge to the right, an incredible view of Theseus Lake.

In dry weather, the trail is loose and dusty, and both myself and my dog slipped a couple of times. I imagine it’s all mud when it’s wet, so plan accordingly.

The fall colors really made this hike so lovely. Trail is easy to find and well maintained. Beautiful views of Leavenworth as you climb. Very enjoyable hike.

A bit challenging for me (but I’m out of shape!) beautiful views up top. Fall colors made it special. I would like to do this hike again next year when I’m back in town.

Interesting terrain that changes elevation regularly. A lot of burned trees, some young trees. Beautiful fall colors. But, many unnecessary switchbacks, felt like a goat trail. Good news...Pretty streams along much of the way, and not crowded at all on a Friday. Definitely moderate hiking but not as satisfying at the end as Stuart Lake— construction on the dam wrecks the view. Probably not on my list to do again.

Gorgeous view at sunset!! I used google maps, which didn’t take me far enough along the road, although I figured it out based on others reviews and continued going - but I also had WTA directions on the well, which are accurate. Took me about 35 minutes to drive up the dirt road in my Dodge Neon, and about 25 to drive back down - it’s a bit bumpy, but nothing impassable at all.
The trail is steep but very short, and has great views. The lookout was locked when I was there, but I sat on a little log looking bench for about an hour and watched the sun set. Gorgeous, and for such a small effort!

Made the trek to this trail after Labor Day weekend, and was not disappointed. For how close one can get, this is a top-5 for me regarding the view = STUNNING! I can't recommend this one enough given the approach, trail, and amazing spot for lunch. If you enjoy alpine lakes in central Washington, do yourself a favor and figure out a way to get to this trail.
DIRECTIONS - Directions from AllTrails gets you to the turn off 97 and up a pretty open forest service road - 7305. A couple miles up and you'll get to a fork with two equally well-maintained roads, with the Left the one you want. We didn't see the road marker in the brush on the way it, but there is one if you root around a bit. The road has some pretty deep ruts, and while our Rubicon had not issues, you'll need some clearance to get to the end.
TRAIL - mostly very nice soft dirt the entire way; this is a surprise given how rocky some of the other local trails are. You'll find you have a pretty even gain in elevation the entire way, with the last bit a little more interesting before the nearly unbelievable summit on a beautiful ridge line.
SURROUNDINGS - you get two very different scenes on the east side of the ridge you climb up and the west side you can see when you reach the top. Beautiful alpine forest, decent amount of shade, no bugs, it was pretty idyllic.
OVERALL - As I said at the top, this was such a surprise and such an amazing day. It's hard to describe getting to the top and looking out over Snow Lake, Chair Peak, and the Temple. Such an incredible bit of Creation!

the directions in the app are wrong. takes you to a place along the road to this trail that isn't correct. continue to the very end of this road, total 5 miles from first turn off. this hike is easy yet a little challenging. easy because it's so short. challenging because it's a steep hike up the whole way. very worth it. the views are amazing!

I went today, pulled up to the TH at 10:30am, only 2 other cars parked. Took an hour & half to get to the lake, steep uphill trail, slick on a rainy day. Visibility was incredibly low but still was a beautiful lake well worth the elevation gain!!

Lost Lake to Manastash Lake: The road up is well maintained but washboard the majority of the time. The fork in the road in which you want to veer left to get to the trailhead is well marked. You can continue right a quarter of a mile if you need to pick up a day pass. Bathrooms available at trailhead. You share this trail with dirt bikes, but you can hear them well before they reach you so you have time to give them room. Maybe 4 other cars at the trailhead on a Saturday afternoon. The grade is mild with lots of flat parts. It had been raining a little in the morning so the trail was not dusty, but later when the sun came out the trail was very dusty. Some parts of the trail are slippery with loose rocks and dirt so watch your step. A few hints of fall colors but mostly greenery. A few fair views of the valley below. When you come to the fork in which right is trail 1350.2 and left is 1350, 1350 is the way you want for the Lakes. The lakes are nice with places to sit on the shore. Saw a few backpackers and places where people had made a campsite. No overly great views or scenery. All around an average hike that is a pretty quick in and out if you want a short hike to a decent lake. 8 miles round trip, just under 2 to lost lake and an additional 2 to manastash.

It does not have a stunning scenery but it was very peaceful easy walking along the pathway and sitting on the big rocks and looking down the lake from it and it was the most peaceful moment ever and also so good for meditation :) It’s the best part of this hiking! It’s probably good for fall and easy hiking!

Great hike for my puppy and me, great view too!

One of the hardest but most fulfilling hikes for me. We went all the way up to Earl Peak and was blown away by the views. This is a continuously steady incline trail though. Brought our dog and she did great. Started hiking at 4pm and no one was going up but saw about 5 people coming down. Great hike and would definitely do it again.

Challenging but did not think the view was worth it. A lot of the locals around Leavenworth use this trail as a quick workout.

Super easy hike to an absolutely gorgeous view!

Gorgeous day for a hike. The smoke seems to have cleared out. Didn’t have issues with mosquitos. Nice switchback hike.

hard, short, beautiful
