Hiked the Johansen trail on March 8th 2018 with snow shoes. The trail seems to be passed over with a snowmobile once in a while. While physical demanding, it's a very rewarding hike. Very little human contact. Returned via Les sommets and the whole hike (Johansen + Les Sommets) took about 5 hrs (including a 30 min stop at Pic Johansen).

many steps, beautiful view

Great for winter running. Lots of traffic.

bonne après-midi en raquette!

The view of Lake

Nice hike up to the top of the rock. Lots of people though..not as peaceful as I like unless you go earlier in the season

A very fun and challenging hike. Beautiful views. Quite busy over the weekend. The decent on the Johannsen trail was very muddy and wet.

Beautiful nature trail! Well maintained path. Spectacular boulders and views.

A good trail. Parts of it have blow downs which made for some detours. We went in mid October so the leaves were mostly off the trees . The lower trees still had some autumn leaves on them. The top has a nice panorama of the laurentian's. Enjoyable experience.

Great sights...

Fun hike over Thanksgiving weekend!

We were camping at Charleston Lake Campground (highly recommend) when we decided to do this trail - it was AMAZING! Lots of beautiful forest and rocks and water on the way up, and at the top there's an absolutely breathtaking Lookout/view of the bay! It was definitely a moderate-difficult hike, but well worth it. :)

Nice little walk. stairs are in great shape.

Trail was well marked and easy to follow, even with all the ups and downs. We took the east trail, going towards Slim Bay Bridge, and what we observed this was the easier direction around the loop, and greatly suggest it.

Deux très jolie points d'observation.
Le sommet est plutôt banal mais la montée en vaut la peine.
Short but Nice.
beau sentier a faire si notre temps est restreint.
stationnement au pied de la montée.

Nice trail - lots of different terrain with several interesting look off points. Quite a bit of elevation gained and lost so a good workout over the distance. It would be very buggy in the warmer weather - some real swamp areas to traverse. A couple of good places to go swimming if you're inclined - bring a suit, not private enough to skinny dip :(

Met a 6' long Black Rat snake en route as well as an unaccommodating porcupine. We diverted off the trail for him.

Trail is well maintained and marked but it is narrow in places and a bit treacherous with rocks and roots. I recommend proper footwear and sufficient fitness.

Current (2017 Fenix 5 Sapphire) GPS technology put this at 11.2 km and 341m elevation gained for what that's worth.

Downside is area is frequented by motorboats so it can be noisy.

We stopped a few times and diverted to Slim Bay picnic site for a break - all in,

dog friendly park

I've completed this trail in the snow, the rain, and the dark. I've completed this trail in both directions, and once in both directions on the same day with several buddies: we completed it in one direction, then turned around and did it again. It's a great trail.

Just spoke to Park staff and trail is now reopened to Tallow Rock. Bridge repaired.

trail closed. $14.50 per person to hike.

Bridge was removed so trail was closed July 23rd 2017. You could cross with a canoe and do the hike. This trail is part of Ontario Provincial Park so 14.50$ day pass fee is needed unless you camp at the campground.

Vraiment un beau coin! La vue d'en haut est superbe.

Been going to Bon Echo for many years but hadn't tried hiking the cliffs till now. Absolutely loved it!

Bonne balade !

Good trail. took me about 4 1/2hours to complete.

Comme dit Penelope , belle rando pas trop difficille mais le 3 km sur la route reduit la randonnée à ordinaire .

Quick easy hike! Off road parking lot with map and trash bin. It took my sister and I about an 1:45 to go up and down with a snack water break at one of the lookout points at the top. We got a little confused finding the first lookout, over the lake, but once we found that one, we were able to find the other two very easily.
