Very easy, mostly flat stroll through the woods next to the mouth of the Neuse River. The trail itself is nothing particularly special unless you are lucky enough to spot some wildlife, but you are likely to see more trash than animals. The beach and picnic areas nearby are really pretty, peaceful, and accessible, but the trail is not particularly well-maintained (for the record, the deeper you get into the Croatan Forest, the nastier it gets--I've never seen so much litter in my life). Certainly recommended for light outdoor exercise, but not for nature-viewing.

Beautiful sunny hike- would highly recommend!

Great walking trails! And the benches every so often make it that much more enjoyable for beginners

So serene and relaxing!

Beautiful and relaxing. Very nice w the water and the wooden bridges

I enjoyed this hike! Easy and enjoyable!

Great Trail
What a great outing!

My friend and I did this yesterday. we got lost in the woods for a while. It was really fun. There's a geocache in the woods. It's really an amazing trail and so beautiful.

Was very nice. Good views and easy to walk.

Short and sweet! Trails are well-marked.

beautiful trail along the Neuse river. Good for walking a dog, as long as your dog can hop over some downed trees

Beautiful spot to camp and enjoy the beach! We had an exciting camping trip as a strong storm headed over the island the night we camped there. Definitely a little scary - but an experience we'll never forget. Clean showers & bathroom over there and really serene setting!

Have paddled out of Hammocks Beach many times - nice paddling spot & easy for kids/newbies too. Even saw a small gator splash into the water near us & dolphins. Be aware that over the weekend (esp. summer) that jet skiers can sometimes race up and down the channel, causing wakes that might flip out inexperienced paddlers. Have to be really aware of your surroundings, as we've had a few experiences with jet skis getting right up on us.

paddle sports

Easy hike & took out our paddle boards here (there wasn't a spot to choose paddle boards from the activity list). Lightning came in while we were out on our boards and we got stuck on some oyster beds. My fault b/c I didn't realize we headed out right before low tide. Be aware if you go out of the tide schedule. Nice fishing spot too!

easy. and love taking the stroller out there.

Great park for a quick walk with the dog!

Nice trails. Very easy going and accessible. There were people running and biking on the trail as well but there was plenty of room to pass. We took the dogs with us. It was a little busier than I usually like. The scenery is beautiful though. Nice peaceful walk.

I hiked this trail with my family a week or so before I downloaded this app and realized that this trail deserved a little more credit being that it’s actually almost 6 miles long. All of the recordings up to this point didn’t cover any of the ENE section of the trail which in my opinion is the prettiest section of the entire loop that contains several marshy, low lying areas great for wildlife viewing! The only downside to hiking this trail is the fact that they close the gate to the parking area at 6pm so you’ll have to park somewhere along the road leading into the park if you plan to be there after hours. There is plenty of wildlife in the area, my wife and daughter were actually lucky enough to see some Whitetail Deer at just around dusk, but they yelled and scared them off before my son and I could see them. Pet and kid friendly trail and mountain bikes welcome. A good pair of hiking shoes/boots recommended.

Fun easy trail to hike. Great location between Havelock and New Bern.

Kid friendly short hike. Lots of picnic options.

Decent trail to take the dog when at Fort

This trail is very easy and fun but is too short for me and the dogs. But was still a blast! :)

Nice trail!

Very easy trail behind the visitor center. There are also outlooks to the beach which is quite nice too.

Park at any of the spots to reach the trail. A few small hills with roots and loose sandy soil but nothing a pair of boots won't handle. Easy hike despite the heat. A few public water accesses and one for kayaks which is quite nice. Saw no one in the hour I was out there. NOT stroller accessible. There are restrooms but I didn't use them so not sure what they are actually like but there were signs posted for them. If you brought a small rod and reel you could do a little fishing from a pier while looking at Emerald Isle bridge. Trail not well marked as far as signage goes but it's quite clear as far as a trail goes. Something easy to do between kiddo naps.

Very hot and humid as it is this time of year. Well maintained trail. Defiantly stroller accessible IF yours has BOB style wheels. Lots of smells crabs to watch and fish jumping. The sun on the water is beautiful. Wooden walk way over the water is in great shape. Parking lot had plenty of room too. I did it with a 7 month old on my back.

Absolutely beautiful trails and well maintained! The only reason I would not rate higher is because the trails are not marked at all.

Still, they are clean and easy to navigate with interpretive signs along the way with plenty of wildlife. My seven year old son and I saw plenty of fiddler crabs, a blue crab, orb weaver spiders and egrets.

I good hike, our four year old enjoyed it and did well. It was beautiful.

Great fun!!!
