Such a beautiful and amazing hike! I went in early August and didn't run into too many mosquitoes. It took about 3 hours to hike. The way there is basically all uphill but is definitely worth it! It was hard to finding a camping spot because we got there a bit late and a lot of them were taken but we found one near the trailhead. The lake was perfect temperature to swim in. Overall one of my favorite spots in the Bend area. Just make sure you have a permit because it's in the three sisters wilderness.

Highly recommend. We went in January and there was about a foot n a half of snow. Well marked trail with blue diamonds, and lots of solitude. Blue diamonds on the trees made the trail very easy to follow and the incline/decline wasn’t bad either. Took about 3 hours on snowshoes. The falls were beautiful but we couldn’t find safe access to the lower trail. Silk worth it!

Love this loop. I’ve hiked it many times. I good moderately challenging hike. The views are spectacular.

Great easy hike! A little tough when you want to go down to water , which is cold.. pretty busy on a Sunday, got to parking at about 1100. Water color is amazing!!! Would love to come back when their is snow everywhere . Highly recommend.

Beautiful hike, mostly dirt but where the canopy lightened there was a little snow on the ground. By the end of the hike the snow was mostly melted. The pool was beautiful with the snow falling, but don't expect a big waterfall this time of year.

Great hike for the start of 2019. Get there early as there is parking but it will fill up. Hike is easy and well worth it. Be prepared for lots of people. It’s a popular spot!

Worth every step!

Crossing the crooked river, took a right headed east. Trail maintenance crews out. Doing a great job. About 75 minute 7 mile loop was great. Other than the climbers yelling, not just “climbing...climb on!” Just yelling acting like hoodlums. Oh well, in the 90’s it seemed like climbers were a more civilized granola crunching bunch, usually quiet other than the occasional climbing phrase. A lot of people out enjoying the hike. Did not see one piece of trash, that was great!!!

Took the Porcupine Loop trail for snowshoeing. It was spectacular. Signage was off so we missed the new warming hut, but the trip really was breathtaking. Get a map that shows the loop (and not just the main trail which is for cross country skiing) and your golden. This is supposed to be a heavily used area but we only bumped into 2-3 other parties for the whole thing. Not bad at all. Easy to get to, well groomed trail.

Directions only take you to turn for TH...2 more winding miles on road 500 to go. Hiked in early December. Beautiful in light snow. Did not see a soul. Stairs make final downward trek to pillar easy even in snow. Checked out accessible ledge with overhang to the right on unmaintained part of trail. 4 miles out and back through lovely stretch of forest. After hike, continued up road 500 for longer hike and elevation gain. Added almost 4 miles rt and map shows I could have kept going. Upper part of road is blocked to cars.

We couldn’t make it to the trailhead by 1 mile because the snow was too thick. 4WD required. We will try again!

Did this one in August. View at the top was incredible.

We hiked to Blue Pool on 11-26-2018. The trail is well maintained but there are rocks that you have to climb over so be aware that it’s not a flat path the whole way. IMO there could be a few more markers for the viewing outlooks....easy to walk right by when you don’t know to look for them. My watch said we did 4.3 miles, from the parking lot to Blue Pool and back but it’s mostly flat and was no problem for my kids (ages 11 & 10).

Terrific hike. Great view from the ridge a little past the lake.

Beautiful hike! We started on the Wolf Tree Trail side and would recommend going the other way down the River Trail. You have to go up no matter what, but can’t recommend the south full sun option. We sweated our way to the top and found the other side very mild.
Bring LOTS of water. Even in November it was needed. Gorgeous views and you can see a Golden Eagle nest from Wolf Tree trail.

Great hike! The trail is iced over in quite a few places. You might want to use cleats or hiking poles to keep from going for a slide.

Nice steady graded hike, best to use spikes due to snow and ice making walk down unsafe. Moraine Lake is spectacular, views super, and the solitude healing.

Trail begins across the road from parking area. Follow the signs for Snow Creek. It intersects Metolius Windigo. Good signage. Creek crossings significant for November and partially frozen but doable. 4.5 miles of surreal burn area with spectacular (though obstructed) views of Sisters. Did this on a blue sky day in November. Watch for the turn to Golden Lake. I missed it and had to backtrack. Golden Lake is worthy with scenic Broken Top as backdrop. South Sister view is also great from meadow.

Quiet and peaceful. Great during the summer, not to crowded, the water isn’t too cold.

Finished this hike on 6Nov18. An inch of snow where I parked my car (the closed gate near sunrise lodge) and anywhere from 6inches to 2 feet on the route to the top depending on the drift. I did not where snow shoes but they would be needed once the snow starts to add. Recommend crampons. The trail I took to get to the top was guided by the lifts since there was no trail visible with the snow. I started at sunrise lift and followed it up until I got to the next lift which I hand railed to the top. My gps said I walked a total of 10.45 miles but who knows. The view was spectacular up top. Was a bit cloudy over the sisters but cleared in the afternoon. It was interesting to walk a ski route and I definitely felt it! Finished the hike in 4 hours and some change. Overall happy I did the hike.

This hike was incredibly beautiful. Watching all the rock climbers along the way is an added bonus. I highly recommend doing Misery Ridge, and know I will definitely do it again. There's pretty good elevation change and stairs, so I wouldn't do it if you have bad knees! Overall LOVED it.

I really like this trail. Just the right amount of challenge and spectacular views!! It was a little brisk when we started. The wind picked up a little too. Definitely pack layers. You’ll see a sign saying “end of the trail” but there is another 2 1/2 miles of trail to explore. Gorgeous back there with some steeper inclines. Worth the extra time. Broken Top seems to be in reach when you go all the way back.

Great views at the top. Good reminder for us to get back in shape!

Great hike, really not hard tho. Took us 2hrs 30mins up, the first 5.5 miles are very easy and almost flat, from there on you hike up the ridge towards the lake, still very doable. The lake is gorgeous, just don't drink/swim, there is 5 elk carcasses in the water and 8 more on the ice.

Amazing day for a Fall hike! 70 degrees You could not ask for a better hike this time of year.

Beautiful views!

The end of the trail head has fantastic views and is one of the best spot to see the sunrise in the Bend. There is photo opportunities galore. The majority of the trail is not too windy, but the top has strong wind chill so bring layers if the temperature is low.

I did not extend the hike to Broken Hand, but will be making this hike next year with that plan in mind.

The lake is now 1/3-1/4 of its maximum area. An interesting gradient: warm sun and fat dragonflies on the east beach vs. hoarfrost and ice in the Linton Creek mouth.

Challenging and rewarding hike! Coming through the thick forest to the opening on the plateau and then down into the lake made this a hike amazing! I can’t wait to share with my family and friends!

This trail was amazing! So much diversity in the scenery. The wind was STRONG and cold when we went. The views were incredible. With two bad knees I felt challenged but not beyond my scope. You can take the "unmaintained" portion pretty much straight to Broken Top if you push a bit further. completely worth it. WOW.
