Stunning ocean and hill views for probably over half the hike, and the rest is lush, green and also beautiful. With all the footwork between the steps/erosion control, roots, and narrow path near the top this hike ends up feeling longer than it is - but totally worth it.

Pretty muddy most of the year so bring some good hiking boots and an extra towel if you have a 4 legged companion! Otherwise, the views are spectacular are more than you could ever ask for a hike under 5 miles and essentially no elevation again.

Its a great hike, i would definitely recommend this hike.
Different type of hike going down first and coming back up is no joke. Beautiful view definitely worth it.

Really fun and fairly easy trail! I will say that the second half of the trail becomes very, very rooted. I went the day after it rained and it was very slick and muddy in some spots, so make sure you bring a pair of sturdy shoes that are waterproof.

I only saw a couple of other people on the way out (started at 10:30am Sat), but ran into many groups of people coming back. Parking lot was full when I left at 1pm.

Also, beware of the lifting chain link on the trail if you bring a dog or small child. Some parts of the links were lifted and could have cut a paw or tripped a kid. Would not suggest letting your dog off leash, although many people did let their dog roam free.

Overall a nice hike with great views. Recommend getting there early and coming prepared for mud.

I did this trail yesterday. It was full of fog and very mystical among the huge trees. I'm not a great hiker, but this wasn't too hard. There are plenty of places the trail flattens out to give you a break. The ocean views along the Oregon Coast Trail are beautiful. We only passed maybe 5 other parties the whole time. I'd do it again.

Fantastic hike. Unbeatable views of the great Pacific. We saw jelly fish and sea lions! My fiancé completed this entire trail 6 months pregnant! The roots are intense at times but it’s not bad if you take it slow. We were blessed with perfect weather! Here is a video of our hike - https://youtu.be/rkmfI9EKhFg

Enjoy the trails!!!

Cheers!

Did this in March and the views are to die for. So many whales!!! Gorgeous views. Can be muddy and lots of exposed roots.

Lush green trail. About 30 minutes in you get a spectacular view of the coast! Definitely want to do more of this trail.

This is an amazing hike with amazing views of the Pacific, Hart's Cove and Chitwood Falls. We heard seals barking for a majority of our hike which was also very cool.
A few notes: 1. The directions on this website do not take you to the correct trailhead. When the forest road splits, stay to the left and continue to the end of the road. 2. My Apple Watch clocked 5.9 miles from start to finish, and that didn't include how much we were walking around down at the base of the meadow. Additionally, my elevation gain was clocked in at 1,328ft. I'm not sure if this review includes the hike from the top of the meadow to the base where you can view the cove. 3. The trail is NOT available year-round as this page says, it is closed Jan 1 - Jul 15 (these dates sometimes change). 4. As many others have said, this hike is not as difficult as AllTrails has rated it to be. It's definitely an uphill, somewhat difficult climb out, but certainly not impossible. 5. We counted 6 switchbacks in the first/last section of the hike, not 9.

Overall a great hike and I highly recommend it!!

Your GPS will not take you to the correct trailhead. The correct trailhead is the same as North Cascade Head, but further down the road. There are signs.

Lots of dead trees on the switchbacks.. would not recommend this trail on a super windy day.

Beautiful view

This trail was great! Some ocean views along the way and a superb ocean view (108* view) at the end of the trail. Some parts were pretty muddy and some of the big root sections had little ponds of water so I was glad I wore my extra tuff tall boots. Brought my dog with me and she loved the trail too :-) when we got to the end of the trail it was sunny and warm, felt like summer! Fun trail and definitely would recommend!

I went out of season this weekend, 11/3, It was very pretty but the trail is essentially mud the whole way. The way they did the preservation of the trail made it much worse then it could have been for those with a bum knee. They put in boards to channel the water and or prevent errosion and provide steps. However when they did this you must step up or down between 8-16inches. and the traill probably has more than 1/4 mile of these scattered throughout. If you are using the recorded trail just stop at the top because if you hike further like it says then you are just going down into the canopy on the opposite side to the other trailhead and it takes you knowwhere. Even though it was muddy, rainy and foggy the views were still nice. I think others would deffinity do it again but even though I enjoyed it I proboably wont.

My tracker data said it’s actually 5.5 miles but elevation gain is right on. Great hike.

Did this hike a couple of weekends ago. It was pretty secluded which was nice you get down the mountain and to the coast. Beautiful views from down there. If you keep going along the trail, you can get down to the beach with the aid of a rope. If you keep walking, you'll get to Myers Creek Beach. I did this hike back on Labor Day weekend as well but didn't go all the way down to the beach.

Unable to make it up to the end due to a slide in the east side of the trail...not able to safely go around. We were almost to the top! Very disappointed in not being able to reach the top.

Wear sturdy shoes. The trail is muddy and uneven. There aren't any guardrails along the cliff edges. Not for kids or unleashed dogs.

I might hike this trail a couple of more times but that's about it. It's a great workout and the view is nice at the end.

great hike but far from medium with all the rocks on the trail makes it a lot more difficult. but it is so cool out there can only imagine how pretty it was before the forest service burned it up..

Previous reviews are accurate. There’s a boatload of slippery mud, but I went during a drier spell, so it really wasn’t too terribly bad. And there’s the tree roots. So many tree roots. I definitely felt the elevation gain at the end, but this is a doable hike. The view was gorgeous along the trail, but at the end, all I saw was fog. That being said, I’d still highly recommend this trail. Critters spotted along the way: one snake, one banana slug, and a couple chipmunks. This is one of those trails where everyone goes, so be prepared for lots of people and lots of dogs.

Great trail! The switchbacks at the beginning/end are probably the most challenging part of the trail. The trail is easy to follow, well maintained, and the views at the end are excellent, even if it's foggy/cloudy. The trailhead is well marked, so if you're driving and your GPS cuts out (like mine), just keep following the road. You can't miss the trailhead.

Nice hike. Was a bit muddy in places, so I’m glad to have done it after a dry weather stretch. Can’t imagine how slippery and messy it’ll be in the middle of the rainy season! Great views! Couple of scary drop off cliffs, so keep an eye on your kids and pups. Lots of people and dogs. Some uphill and some downhill, but overall quite manageable, even for someone in not great shape :)

nice today. the meadows are so but more beautiful in the spring and summer. NC did a controlled burn a few weeks ago so it's a little chard.

Yes, a challenging hike, but if you take your time going back up, you can do it. I'd say it's a moderate hike, but not extremely hard. Counted 9 switchbacks to the bridge (helpful for the way up). We did not see the falls in the Cove. Maybe didn't take the correct path across the meadow to the back of the Cove, possibly the falls was dry. A few groups of us down at the Cove weren't sure if we'd missed it or if it was dry. But the views of the ocean were worth it anyways.

I did this hike on my birthday vacation and the views didn't disappoint! It had been a while since I had been hiking, and this wasnot only beautiful, but a great workout as well! I wouldn't consider this a hard hike, but definitely moderately difficult. Especially for those who aren't used to climbing hills. Otherwise, this was fantastic! Btw... my phone clocked this at 6.2 miles.

The muddiest trail ever. Crazy tree roots. Pretty views. Great for kids and not hard.
