Stunning ocean and hill views for probably over half the hike, and the rest is lush, green and also beautiful. With all the footwork between the steps/erosion control, roots, and narrow path near the top this hike ends up feeling longer than it is - but totally worth it.

went today and we were the only people out. kinda chilly and a bit icy but we warmed up while walking. it was so beautiful and we plan to come back during spring/ summer! definitely easy for all skill levels!

This trail is full beautiful waterfalls. Just do not follow Google maps to go to the trailhead. Google Maps will take you on literally a very narrow jungle road. I suggest you use the day time for your entire trip because at night it gets extremely foggy in there. It reduces to visibility to only a few yards. All in all it was a great experience.

Pretty muddy most of the year so bring some good hiking boots and an extra towel if you have a 4 legged companion! Otherwise, the views are spectacular are more than you could ever ask for a hike under 5 miles and essentially no elevation again.

This is a great hike, the waterfalls are breath taking and beautiful.

You should know that the trailhead is in a very remote area of the coast range- the access roads are primitive and not maintained like a regular road. You will be driving on remote roads for at least 30 minutes to access this trailhead.

I strongly recommend following William Sullivan’s (Oregon Coast Range Hiking Book) driving directions to access the trailhead; do not use google maps. Google took me on a dangerous “shortcut”, a 6 mile detour on a 4X4 completely unmaintained logging trail. My car got scratched to shit. I could have easily gotten a flat tire.

On the way back, I followed William Sullivan’s directions in conjunction with apple maps; this was much safer (still gravel road with potholes, but much wider and maintained). I strongly recommend having a car with ground clearance.

All in all, great hike, and don’t be dumb like me and leave navigating up to google on this one; do some preparation in advance. Bring a GPS or detailed maps. Happy trails

Beautiful views!

Just did this a few days ago and I’ve done this hike multiple times. It’s a perfect little day trip (coming from Eugene) and the falls are gorgeous!

Its a great hike, i would definitely recommend this hike.
Different type of hike going down first and coming back up is no joke. Beautiful view definitely worth it.

Really fun and fairly easy trail! I will say that the second half of the trail becomes very, very rooted. I went the day after it rained and it was very slick and muddy in some spots, so make sure you bring a pair of sturdy shoes that are waterproof.

I only saw a couple of other people on the way out (started at 10:30am Sat), but ran into many groups of people coming back. Parking lot was full when I left at 1pm.

Also, beware of the lifting chain link on the trail if you bring a dog or small child. Some parts of the links were lifted and could have cut a paw or tripped a kid. Would not suggest letting your dog off leash, although many people did let their dog roam free.

Overall a nice hike with great views. Recommend getting there early and coming prepared for mud.

Fantastic hike. Unbeatable views of the great Pacific. We saw jelly fish and sea lions! My fiancé completed this entire trail 6 months pregnant! The roots are intense at times but it’s not bad if you take it slow. We were blessed with perfect weather! Here is a video of our hike - https://youtu.be/rkmfI9EKhFg

If the link does not work search “Dabai’s Adventures” on Youtube.

Enjoy the trails!!!

Cheers!

Lush green trail. About 30 minutes in you get a spectacular view of the coast! Definitely want to do more of this trail.

A great short walk, that is absolutely beautiful. Loved the many moss covered trees over hanging the cascading falls and bubbling brooks, well as calm pools of water that greet you on this serene walk through nature’s backdoor. Can’t wait to go back again in the winter wonderland and beauty of springtime.

Totally amazing and worth the view! We got to watch whales and see seals and seal pups! Then there was a beautifull sunset to end it all! Great Staff working there as well!

This is an amazing hike with amazing views of the Pacific, Hart's Cove and Chitwood Falls. We heard seals barking for a majority of our hike which was also very cool.
A few notes: 1. The directions on this website do not take you to the correct trailhead. When the forest road splits, stay to the left and continue to the end of the road. 2. My Apple Watch clocked 5.9 miles from start to finish, and that didn't include how much we were walking around down at the base of the meadow. Additionally, my elevation gain was clocked in at 1,328ft. I'm not sure if this review includes the hike from the top of the meadow to the base where you can view the cove. 3. The trail is NOT available year-round as this page says, it is closed Jan 1 - Jul 15 (these dates sometimes change). 4. As many others have said, this hike is not as difficult as AllTrails has rated it to be. It's definitely an uphill, somewhat difficult climb out, but certainly not impossible. 5. We counted 6 switchbacks in the first/last section of the hike, not 9.

Overall a great hike and I highly recommend it!!

My 7 yr old grandson and I did a round trip hike from Shore Acres to Simpson Reef wayside. 3 hrs round trip. Beautiful hike.

Really cool lighthouse, cool beach with big rocks, and fun hike up the hill to get 360 views of the coastline.

Your GPS will not take you to the correct trailhead. The correct trailhead is the same as North Cascade Head, but further down the road. There are signs.

Great trail. I want to go back in the winter or spring.

nice trail

This trail was great! Some ocean views along the way and a superb ocean view (108* view) at the end of the trail. Some parts were pretty muddy and some of the big root sections had little ponds of water so I was glad I wore my extra tuff tall boots. Brought my dog with me and she loved the trail too :-) when we got to the end of the trail it was sunny and warm, felt like summer! Fun trail and definitely would recommend!

Beautiful, but becoming dangerous. As someone who’s gone there for years, the scene has changed drastically. Rocks are constantly falling. I was nearly hit twice on my last trip there, very scary.

I went out of season this weekend, 11/3, It was very pretty but the trail is essentially mud the whole way. The way they did the preservation of the trail made it much worse then it could have been for those with a bum knee. They put in boards to channel the water and or prevent errosion and provide steps. However when they did this you must step up or down between 8-16inches. and the traill probably has more than 1/4 mile of these scattered throughout. If you are using the recorded trail just stop at the top because if you hike further like it says then you are just going down into the canopy on the opposite side to the other trailhead and it takes you knowwhere. Even though it was muddy, rainy and foggy the views were still nice. I think others would deffinity do it again but even though I enjoyed it I proboably wont.

What’s not to love? Crashing waves to the west and old forests to the east, you wind your way along cliffs and coastal trails to the rhythm of constantly changing vistas. The trails are quite easy and good for all age groups. Best of all, you’ll encounter only moderate pedestrian traffic while you enjoy tranquility and good exercise. Take along a day pack with water and some snacks, but please leave it clean and leave behind no litter.

My tracker data said it’s actually 5.5 miles but elevation gain is right on. Great hike.

steep trek after the warning sign, but the views are well worth it.

Wear sturdy shoes. The trail is muddy and uneven. There aren't any guardrails along the cliff edges. Not for kids or unleashed dogs.

I might hike this trail a couple of more times but that's about it. It's a great workout and the view is nice at the end.
