HikingGreat!

Did this on 11/01/20 at 5am. This was a beautiful hike. The start of the hike you’ll encounter fallen trees that you’ll have to maneuver around or over. There’s not too much incline or decline until you hit the scree just before the ascent up to Three Fingered Jack (hiking polls for this segment is encouraged!). You’ll have endless views and the trail for the most part is kept in good condition. Be aware of wildlife as I encounter fresh Cougar prints in some sections of the hike! All in all, if you decide to do this hike you’ll not regret it. To reap the benefits of this hike, you’ll need to conquer the scree and ascend upwards to Three Fingered Jack! Enjoy:)

11/1 The trail is closed. Sign says dangerous area, maybe some fire damage that isnt visable from the road? Long drive to be disappointed! I assumed (my fault) that since a climber posted a few days ago it was open. Maybe call the ranger station before you make the drive.

We got a late start so we took the forrest road (NF 035) up the mountain a bit. This hike was amazing! Beautiful views all along the way. Definitely more of a moderate hike. The lookout at the top is pretty new looking and offers 360• views!

Great hike! Climb is fun and challenging. I climbed yesterday and lost my GOPRO on the way down, somewhere near the top right when you get to the rocky features. If you find it please let me know, I really just want the SD card back lol

Cold. Super cold. Rain, fog, wind. I don’t recommend to attempt the summit at least today. Not visibility and the wind was super strong.

Sorry to hear that the trail is closed because it is a fabulous place. So sad about all the fires. I was there early Summer and it was awesome. Another beautiful Oregon Mountain! We hiked up at 7:30am and free climbed the pillar around 11:30am we stayed at the top for a bit and did the rappel down and finished around 2pm. There are 2 sets of anchors at the top. I would recommend using the anchors to the left (when facing the side of the pillar you just climbed). There is blue and red webbing that appears to be in decent shape and rap rings on both. The cord on the right looked more worn. Lots of rock fall so bring a helmet if you have one

This hike was epic but it is very hard! The last mile to a mile and half ( the point after your cross the PCT) is where the hike tests your will. You will be walking on loose rock and the trail becomes less defined but you can see where the top is. I will reiterate that i was climbing on all fours for the last half mile to the top. Once you make it to the highest point accessible by walking, there is a 80-100 foot climb to get to the top. Im a rock climber and I would not recommend doing this unless you are an experienced climber that wears a harness and has a rope and someone belaying you but idk what you would anchor to. What also makes this hike challenging is that you have to leave early in the morning. 7am is the absolute latest start time I would say if you do this in the summer. Sunscreen spf 50+ every 30-45 minutes once you get out of the trees is a must as the sun just bakes you up there. I also would say a hat and sunglasses are a must. In addition I brought 2.5 liters of water and that was barely enough so bring at least that much and ration it throughout the hike. The last thing i will add is that my friend and i slightly veered off the path on the way down and had to cross a dangerous rock slide area so please download the all trails map so you can use the gps on the way down ahead of time. Despite all that, the views are absolutely spectacular. I couldn’t believe how high up I was and I could see into crater lake from the walking top. I loved it and it made me appreciate life more.

Climbed this twice and don’t remember how long it took. I climbed Mt. South Sister and Mt. Thielson was way harder to travers because of the loose rock and dangerous cliffs. The top is a size of a mini van and a shear climb up with death on all sides. Well worth the final climb though. Can see crater lake rim and dim and lake easy.

It is uphill as soon as you step out of your car but worth it when you reach the top. The sign for the road has need knocked down so it took us a minute to back track to the road to the trail head. The length in the description doesn’t seem accurate - my Apple Watch said it was a total of 4 miles.

Hammock and tent camping great at PCT junction. The doggo came all the way to just below chicken ledge where she waited while I summited. She needed booties for all that scree. Great hike and short climb to summit.

Beautiful trail! Very clean and no trash left behind by hikers. Last 1.50miles ? up to top is very difficult but we made it. Took us 3.45 hours from parked car to top of Thielsen.

Shorter than I thought! It really takes about 20 minutes to get to the lookout. Only about a mile from where I parked. The Iron Mountain trailhead left me wanting more so I went ahead and did Cone Peak too!

HikingGreat!

The last 1.5 miles is the challenge. Very rocky terrain- I would suggest staying to the left when you get to rocky terrain. We found a much better trail on that side coming down. I took 2 liters of water and it was adequate. No bugs today.
