Had no idea there was still this much snow and would be so few people. only saw 2 people on the whole trail. had thought this was heavily traveled and never been to the area so went in hiking boots and sneakers. some parts of the trail leading to the lake were a foot or two deep if you step in the wrong spot. up at the lake you might drop 3 or 4. luckily someone had snow shoed before us so we tried to use their tracks but it was very slow going and lots of falling through. very hard to find the trail around the lake, which is still frozen over and covered in snow. it was surprisingly challenging with trekking through such deep snow.

this place was absolutely mind blowing though and so serene without anyone else around. best hike ever.

also note you need to park at snow bowl and walk half a mile on the fairly dangerous highway.

BEAUTIFUL waterfall!

We hiked this trail in March 2017. It was strenuous going up. Bring plenty of water and protein food. It was worth it. Stunning views at the top. Watch out for people with dogs. They should not bring dogs on this trail.

Easy, beginner hike but you’ve got to start somewhere.

Definitely worth the work for a short trip. Ice in quite a few spots still but easy to manage with just boots. Can't wait to try this one again after the snow and be able to get behind the falls.

Awesome .... had the trail to ourselves it seemed! Snow packed and a great hike for the family. And the kids loved the chance to play in snow.

They opened the bottom platform- might be the only chance you’ll get a picture of the falls without someone standing on the bridge haha
Awesome falls, 3 stars only because hike isn’t open yet :(

Took the Red Meadow trail from the bottom of the parking lot. Spectacular little less traveled, unpacked connector to the Trillium Lake road. Main trail was well packed and easily traveled without snowshoes. Gorgeous easy trail!

Total distance from parking lot to and back was about 5 miles. Distance listed is for the Lake Loop only so be prepared for double depending on route. What we walked was the Lake road. The trail loop indicated in this file is the low trail at the lake's edge.

Short, easy and beautiful even when covered in snow.

Super pretty hike. The entire trail was covered in hard packed snow and some ice. Boots chains and poles for the win!

Went this weekend. It was amazing. 3/17/18 it was snowy still, slippery in some places. Be careful, but otherwise wonderful!

Pretty trail. A lot of people. A lot of unleashed dogs. Be prepared to do some ankle deep wading.

Beautiful view of the falls but trails are closed I heard till April. Sad I didn’t get to do the hike!

Gorgeous trail. Beautiful river vistas.

beautiful old forest. easy trail

Short easy hike. Very crowded. Amazing waterfall. In order to enjoy this hike, snow spikes or hiking boots for icy and snowy surface is required. In my opinion, snowshoes are a little bit overkill.

Beautiful easy stroll. A few small and one not as small river crossings.

We chose a beautiful day to snow shoe. Easy hike.

Really a gorgeous hike. Snow was covering the trail so leave your nikes at home and hike with good traction shoes. Spectacular view at the end of this trail!

Fantastic hike, gorgeous in every way, waterfalls, lush greenery, flowers, mushrooms, moss, all that's missing are the little fairies :) Took us about 5-6 hrs, just what we needed.

Absolutely gorgeous hike. Lots of great people and friendly pups along the way. Snow was covering the trail, good shoes with adequate traction or shoe spikes would be a wise choice. Not deep enough for snowshoes.

Love this hike all year round! Snowshoed yesterday and after all the snow this past weekend the trail is gorgeous! Brought two dogs with me who also had a blast. Parked at skibowl and walked along the road to get to the trailhead, which isn’t ideal, but it’s well worth it!

Its closed and fenced, but you can still see the waterfall

I did this hike on July 20th of last year. The weather was perfect, and the hike was gorgeous. There were so many wildflowers on the way up to the falls, and Umbrella Falls itself was very impressive. It was also fun to hike up above the falls and to see the base of the Mt Hood Meadows ski resort. I would say this was a pretty easy hike. I was not in great shape and did not feel like this hike was very hard.

Great hike but we parked at ski bowl, we weren’t sure if parking was closed or not by hike, some people parked there but there were no parking signs close.
We took of our snowshoes for most of the hike

Miss this place

Trail from the lake up to the mountain is completely snow covered.

Great hike. Treacherous without traction. Snow melt bogs at some points, but can be walked around.
