A very nice hike. I went almost 3.5 miles up to the "outlook", but turned around at that point. There is a rock outcrop at this point that I understand can be avoided by going to the left before the clearing for the overlook if you wish to go further. The trail was in reasonably good condition. Some fallen trees and mud, but nothing too difficult. I hiked on a Monday, and it was not very crowded. Enjoy!
Great hike. Wide easy trail, some stairs along the way to the falls. About a half mile there and a half mile back. It's a great 1 hour adventure! We were there just before sunset to see a big bird come out but we lost it in the trees. Hawk maybe?
Perfect for a short and easy family hike with amazing views.
No mud And easy trail.
From the parking lot to the falls is about .5 miles. It was supa pretty and it looks like it would be a great place to go swimming!
Dog got too hot to reach the top of the butte today. Will have to come back again sometime earlier or when it’s cooler. Beautiful views.
4/6/21 Good trail, did run into a few people. Not to muddy. But after about mile 3ish+ there are a lot of downed trees and tree branches you have to step over. At mile 5ish there is a big tree down with branches blocking trail. I just walked on the tree trunk to get back on the trail. After about mile 3 you leave the river and are just hiking in forest. I went about 5.5 in(11.5 round trip)
Beautiful desert scenery and waterfall. Enjoyed our not crowded weekday hike in April. Imagine it being more crowded during the weekends. Narrow trail doesn’t allow social distance easily in some parts. Exposed to sunshine which was wonderful today. Bring water.
Great trail, we walked the rim all the way down to the basalt spires and then hiked the trail on way back out to our pals house at top of entrance. So fun.
fun and family friendly. I love to take my time and play in the water when it's warm enough.
I was a bit dubious starting this and coming from PDX with magnificent falls in the Columbia River Gorge, but these falls are beautiful and totally worth it. The falls themselves are about 0.5 miles down the trail. We did the whole thing because why not and it was our last day on vacation, but if I were to do it again, I would probably only go max 0.1 or 0.2 miles past the falls where there are some of the best views. No ice or snow! Parking lot with plentiful parking at the start.
Beautiful. Packed on weekends, yes, but there’s plenty of space for everyone to enjoy! Highly recommend. Dogs had a blast.
Beautiful trail! Would recommend stopping when you get to the overlook towards the end. If you follow the route to the very end on the All Trails map, it rejoins you with a creek, but given how close you are to the water the whole time i wouldn’t say it was worth going the extra half mile.
Road to trailhead is accessible for almost all vehicles. this is a fee parking area from May through October. First parking area full at 9:30. By the time I was back at 1pm both lots and the shoulder were full. Conditions are currently great--a few muddy areas that are easily traversed. Lots of trees across the path, none overly difficult to step over or duck under. there's a great viewpoint of the valley about 3 miles in. I bet if you wanted a challenging day or overnighter you could continue on and head to Devil's Peak for a ~14 mile loop and some presumably excellent views but otherwise this hike can be a bit monotonous lots of camping spots next to the river along the trail for the first few miles. I only went about 3.5 miles in.
Beautiful hike! A nice workout on the final stretch back. Perfect for picnics, kids, dogs, fishing.
Hiked this 5.8 mile loop today from 2-5 pm. The western and eastern ends of the trail are covered in snow and ice (about 3 miles total of trail) Some of this was ok, but some of it was icy and we should have used spikes. Parts of it we sank into the snow up to our knees. We both fell a few times. Definitely take hiking poles for balance. Some of the icy sections were near steep slopes and were sketchy. About 2.8 miles of trail was completely clear and beautiful. The bridge still has the fallen tree on it. We were able to cross by straddling the tree and shimmying over. DO NOT hike this trail yet if you have ankle/knee problems, balance issues, etc. Wait for more snow to melt. At the bridge with the fallen tree, we saw tracks below crossing the river bed so it looks possible to bypass the bridge and go this way. We had the trail to ourselves and it was absolutely gorgeous. The people working in the store did not have accurate information on the fallen tree, as they thought it had been cleared. They also thought the trail was clear of snow. When asking for trail conditions, be sure to ask if they have walked the trail themselves and when.
The walk from the parking lot to the falls is only .5 mile, and the trail goes along the river for around another .5 mile before it sort of peters out. the falls are incredibly gorgeous! Plenty of spots to dip in and go for a swim or even fish.
Amazing
