HikingGreat!

Sweet hike, isn’t crazy hard or anything and Blue Basin is rad. It can get hot in the summer, but there’s a few places with benches under trees.

Great views. Drove here from Bend to see the painted hills and felt like a bit longer of a hike than painted hills had to offer. Glad we came. Kids (6 and 8) had no problem and enjoyed the hike.

Absolutely beautiful trail. We went counter clockwise and it was a steady climb. The views were well worth it at the top. Easy trail to follow and great for the dogs!

Not a hike, but just a super short walk on a path on a private property to the hot springs. The hot springs are well maintained and have a super nice view. Definitely worth the spend.

We hiked this trail counterclockwise. My husband and I agreed if we were to do this hike we would only hike up counterclockwise about 2k to see all of the views, and then turn around and go back the way we came. The views on the first part of this hike are extraordinary, but the last half of the hike there isn’t much to see and it’s hot.

I did this hike mid day going counter clockwise. Temp was well in the high 90s and in the valley was around 100. The first mile is slot of switchbacks and no shade cover whatsoever. Once getting to the top you’re greeted with great views of the Hills and valley below. Bring proper shoes and lots of water. Afterwards I jumped in the river to cool off.

Really well maintained hot springs and lovely temperature and view. There is a cost to use. I was told $10 on weekdays and $20 on weekends for a day pass by the people who own it. Felt like a scam so didn’t take it and just walked over a few days later without being noticed and used the springs then. There is campgrounds around it that cost the same amount to use. The owner said he charges that much to use the hot springs because it isn’t fair to make it cheeper because of the people who have to pay to camp there. Not really sure how them scamming people can be interpreted as them just trying to play it fair but regardless its a great springs and perfect to wash off after spending time on the lake bed.

7/13/20: The basin hike is special. We hiked it clockwise this time, and it is a gentler way to ascend. We ascended via the Island In Time Trail last time, and it was a more arduous climb. There is one overgrown section with its share of insects, but the rest of the loop is in good shape. We passed a group who saw a rattlesnake on the rocks beside the trail. We kept an eye out, but it must’ve moved on. Take the offshoot trails to the viewpoints so you don’t miss out. We did this on a breezy, somewhat cooler morning. The hills look pistachio in color. So beautiful.

We loved this hike. So many beautiful views of the fossil beds. When sunny and warm, I would rate this borderline hard with the elevation gain combined with the lack of shade. Our pup had a tough time with the hot ground. Bring plenty of water. There’s an excellent shady spot at the top to have a break and some lunch (1/4 mile past the bench, clockwise).

I wonder why the Blue Basin is so unknown. Not sure what I found more impressive: the Painted Hills or this gem. We hiked the loop in about 1.5 hrs. We loved doing the loop clockwise. Make sure to dress properly. It was really hot (barely any shade), but windy. Our dog burned his front paws in the hot sand. We absolutely enjoyed this loop. It’s gorgeous out there! Enjoy the amazing views!

I parked my vehicle and biked this loop. The uphill was a little tough as it was my first ride this year but there was plenty of downhill to make up for it! Overall it was fun and I’d do it again. The ‘bike path’ is actually the road but there is plenty of room for cars to get around so you don’t hold up traffic. I was able to stop whenever and take some nice pics! It was hot with no shade so I suggest bring plenty of water!

Really cool views! Trail is overgrown in spots and I recommend you wear jeans or long pants. There are lots of small desert bushes that like to poke you in the skin. We started out going to the right which made this a much easier hike. We also started early it gets hot and there is no shade!

An instant favorite. The views and uniqueness of the geological features feels very different than the rest of Oregon. Well groomed trail with very limited shade. Advise doing this trail in the morning hours.

Did the hike Clockwise made the hike up seem a little less steep (less switchbacks) Saw no one on the loop trail started about 330 in the afternoon and took about 3 hours including the Island of time trail. Definitely a must do hike. Could be really hot no shade but not today

Would definitely recommend this hike. Decent uphill hike with amazing views from the top. No shade so on hot days be prepared. Dog friendly but has pretty narrow trails at some spots with steep drops so I would recommend a leash. Overall very nice hike!

03/22/20: Topography, fossils and rock formations are all spectacular. For those social distancing, this was a hard place to do so this last weekend. Very crowded, and not a surprise! Such a gorgeous visit.
