We just did this yesterday from Modjeska Canyon, parked at the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary and hiked all the way up to Santiago Peak. It was 28.6 miles round-trip and took us nearly 13 hours! Really just did this as climbing Santiago Peak was on my bucket list, don’t need to ever do it again! Take a lot of water and snacks. We took headlamps too as we started in the dark and the last 2 hours we had to finish in the dark, which I would not recommend, poor judgement on our part and was awful! If you’re parking in Modjeska you may need to display in your car a Cleveland national forest pass which we already had. The views were cool, but this is not really a “pretty” hike. I would also suggest ibuprofen, 28.6 miles is a hell of a long hike, my hips started to ache after a while and the ibuprofen helped! Sunscreen too is an obvious thing to pack. Wear layers too, can be pretty cold in the parts with no sun exposure, and early morning and evening. We did this in November, temperature was perfect 75* was the high, would not suggest this in the summer months.

Nice hike! Completed in about 2.5 hours. There are some serious inclines but all hikers for sure should go! Very pretty

A bit charred still from the fires, and the water level is low, but still a pretty hike and nice loop, away from the hustle and bustle...but not too far so it’s easy to access!

Love this trail- great hills for the hikers and plenty of running trails for the runners.

Great work out with some challenging inclines. Watch out for mountain bikers on the narrow fence line trail portion of the hike. Bring a hat and plenty of water.

This is a moderate trail. you can have option to push a lil harder by trying a stiffer road or just follow a flat road.

Not to bad, the fire damage is significant so a lot of the trails are blocked off but all in all a great place to walk around in the afternoon

love this trail, but currently closed due to wildfires.

This was my first hike. I enjoyed it!!

I saw a coyote pup and a rabbit while hiking on the trail. Beautiful views with well maintained dirt roads. Up and down steep hills all along the way. Bring plenty of water - a great trail for running!

Great hiking trail with multiple hills and great views of the Pacific Ocean. This is our go-to hike near our home in OC.

nice easy loop. some sections were closed for fire recovery. I took my dog and had a good back pack in and out. even with closures it was easy to navigate around.

a great beginner hike!

Is there a lake in the area?

Beautiful and challenging

Very pretty on a clear day! The last part is the toughest. $3 to park and they had security on a Sunday checking the parking lot.
I added Red Rock-only a mile more total to the hike and very worth it.

Many of the trails closed for wildfire recovery. Awesome trail. My family enjoyed it a lot. We will go many more times when all trails opened

Lovely trail not hard at all

Is a great work out ! No shades but nice view! ! Highly recommend

took my wife and kids. our dog had fun fresh air great scenery

Decent hike around Crystal Cove Park - completely unshaded. A nice way to end the hike is to go to Laguna Beach :) There are many rolling hills along the way for a good workout.

I finished this in under 3 hours.

Really enjoyed the trails here. Parking is only $5, not bad at all. There are several different trails to chose from, although there are a few that are closed due to the fires. Amazing views, super clean restrooms, and friendly park rangers. Will definitely be coming back. There is just a lot of horse poop, but nothing you can't walk past.

Note: The dirt road that leads to this trail is rough and not suitable for most sedans. Mid to high clearance vehicles are recommended.

This is a beautiful canyon hike with a good amount of shade. It’s pretty busy though, so if you’re not a fan of crowds, come during the week or early on the weekend.

Great conditioning hike going up the BFI with amazing view of Newport Coast and PCH. For an extra challenge, after BFI, go down East Cross Over then up Poles :))

A great workout for hiking

$5 to park. Not bad. Comes with a detailed map!!! Love it! Currently, some of the trails are closed due to the recent fire but they are super clear about which trails are open. Even with some trails being closed there were still a ton of trail options! Also we saw a crawfish so that was cool!

This trail is not that beautiful. I mean...if it’s all you have then fine. But there is no greenery, telephone poles along the route and yes the coast is nice but it’s obstructed by peoples houses!! If you want a long hike to do and not drive far, this is a good choice. But it’s not as beautiful as it’s made out to be. I parked near the baseball field to avoid the $15 parking fee....which also is absolutely ridiculous.

This hike was fun and challenging if you’re a newbie like me! The route we took did have a lot of hikes up hills and my legs were jelly by the time we were done. The scenery, serenity and confidence boosting was all worth it! Absolutely gorgeous to find this gem in OC! Well worth it, don’t bring children on the long hikes and there are in fact rattlesnakes!

at first the incline is intense but over all its a good easy trail. it's easy just a long trail.
