Great hike along a river with plenty of smaller falls on the way. There was a downed tree on the trail when I went (11/09/18) about 1.6 miles in. It gets rocky in some parts, but overall fairly easy.

Very difficult. I am in shape, but still took me a long time to reach the summit. Worth every bit of it though, the views from the top are unlike any other. Best hike in Oregon for sure

Best summit hike on the coast.

Great trail. I want to go back in the winter or spring.

Insane day up at South Sister. Snow covered 95% of trail and I was only able to reach the summit because I brought an ice ax and crampons. I would not attempt the last 200 ft without at least an ice ax.

Hiked up past Moraine Lake today for lunch and views. Was nice to be in the snow and get another hike in before it gets too snowy. Was fine with hiking shoes and poles. Mostly snow covered starting about 1/2 mile in from the trailhead.

I went in September.. first time hiking this one.. what a nice view on the way up to the summit..

Challenging climb, but gorgeous views at regular intervals on the way up, including an absolutely beautiful view at the top. Do it! The trek up is aerobic, for sure, but the trail is well-marked and mostly covered in pine needles.

Nice easy hike with a few slightly steep & rocky areas. When we got to the trailhead parking lot around 10:30, there was already about 10 cars and when we got back to the parking lot after our hike around 2:30, there was at least 25 cars. Popular trail, but it wasn’t crowded. No port-a-potty, so plan accordingly :)

Love.

Did it with our Golden and had an amazing time. Side note: Rocky in some spots. We passed by some people that turned around because they thought they were at the end of the trail (Don't do this! The waterfalls are gorgeous!)

This is a quick, short trail with high return with the trail ending w 360 panoramic views of crater lake!

Great hike. Did it in mid October on a weekday, so there were very few people there. Yes, it is all uphill all the way to the top, but take your time and enjoy the views from every angle. It's a fairly steady climb and there is no scrambling. Well worth your time.

Lots of people were parked at the trail head, but we only ran into two other couples the entire time. The trail is nice, but I’m not sure how anyone has gotten down to the base of Sahalie falls (at least recently). There’s a small sign on a tree pointing down a trail that looks manageable, but once you actually get onto the trail there is a large portion that is almost completely blown out. You would really need to hang onto something and literally slide down to the base. It was not ideal for me nor my dog, so we passed and came back halfway down. You also cannot see the falls from any point because trees block the view. If there was a secret to seeing them, we did not find it. :(

Umbrella falls was easy enough to get to. We started at the trailhead and went up the incline. Overall not too bad if you’re used to a little elevation gain, although some people did use poles. When you see the marker for Sahalie Falls 1 mile ahead take a right up the other trail and you’ll run into the other falls pretty quickly. Very easy trail. I think you may also be able to park closer and just walk down?

Overall, the trail was okay, but a big bummer not being able to see or get to one of the two falls. Also, there are three or four spots where the trail is almost completely blown out. Not impassable, but if you have a small child or a smaller dog be aware they’ll need some assistance. Also water was flowing so beware your shoes if they’re not ready for water or mud.

Awful. Hard to find trailhead and when we did,we found ourselves on an ultimate frisbee course amongst the woods - no view in this hike except for a pop Out at the turn where you overlook the Highway and a piece of the Columbia.
The noise was so loud from the highway - no peace. It was a beautiful fall day and we missed the breathtaking views of the Gorge.
Now , for the parking lot views of the river -awesome; but we came for the hike which very much disappointed.
I would not even recommend for family w kids - State should let it grow over and save the money on maintenance.

We hiked to the top yesterday. Weather was clear and the views were amazing - smoke was just a light haze in the distance. The hike is strenuous - I do the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway hike every year and this felt just as hard, although we were moving at a pretty good pace and I haven't spent any time at altitude this year so the thin air probably hit me harder than I expected. The top third of the mountain is composed primarily of loose volcanic rocks, gravel and sand. When it's very dry (as it was yesterday) this mixture is surprisingly loose, and the descent in particular was a bit hairy with slips and trips. I highly recommend bringing poles for the descent, even if you don't like to use them to climb up.

Awesome and beautiful but super easy hike! Very popular spot but still worth an afternoon trip.

We did the Giant Spruce Tree first and glad we did because we were tired after taking the way up R Perpetua Trail. It is quite an incline, but since i’m usually hiking in altitude in Colorado it was nice to be able to at least catch your breath! The view is spectacular and worth the climb.

Watch out for dog poop on the trail! It was kind of a bummer to have to be more aware of piles of poo than actually enjoying the scenery around. Overall, it's a beautiful tiny hike!

Great, short hike. It’s a workout, but you are rewarded with terrific views. The lake is incredibly beautiful!

Hike from trailhead to Moraine lake with overnight gear was strenuous! Started hike around 1130am and got to the lake by 130pm. Once you get into the open desert it gets HOT and there is very little shade. Having said that, we just happened to hike this trail on the hottest day of the year with smoke surrounding us. Ate lunch, set up camp and were going to wait until the next day to summit but we met some new friends and decided to start our ascent at 215pm. The smoke didn't allow us to see the views very well but the mountain and glaciers alone was worth it. Summited at 700pm and got back to Moraine lake at 900pm. Just in time for sunset! 35,200 step day. Bring at least 4 litres of water, if not a water pump! Overall steps were 53,600! Can't wait to do again later in life.

Beautiful scenery on a clear October day. Just the drive here from PDX proper was worth it. A few other hikers on a Monday morning but didn’t feel crowded. Path gets rocky & has a few largish root tangles throughout but nothing truly difficult. Area near the falls can be very slippery, but how far up you go is up to you - it’s selfie-worthy at the bottom too. Path follows water throughout, super pleasant. Gorgeous short hike.

My brother & I hiked this trail and I've got to say this hike is PERFECT if your not trying to go on a really long hike that has difficult terrain to navigate.
The waterfall at the end is DEFINITELY worth every bit of the hike that it takes to get there.
Plus the whole trail on the way to the waterfall has amazing views and cool spots to stop at.

Pretty cool walking under Hood River Meadows ski lift with no snow! Steep in a few spots and Mt Hood peak poking her head through the trees...well-marked trail. Both waterfalls are stunning was very quiet for sunny Sunday morning. Pretty steep going down to Sahalie Falls-lots of roots to help with the scramble and absolutely worth it!
