HikingMuddyRocky

I did this trail about 7 years and 70lbs ago. I am older and fatter but wanted to give it another try. Dear God, I was not ready. Is this really moderate? Jk it is. The trail is beautiful with muddy, muddy, muddy switchbacks. The last 1/5 of the trail was sketchy with an eroded, rocky, narrow trail, and some downed trees but it was doable and the view is always worth it. I made it to the top! Saw squirrels, A WOODPECKER, and crows. Maybe wait if it rains again. Just from going up to coming down I noticed a worsening in the muddiness/condition of the trail. Heavily used but the people were super nice.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Wow. What a payoff. Did this today with my healthy 65 y.o. mom. Very, very muddy and rained off and on. Trekking poles were very helpful and prevented a number of slips and falls in the sludge. So gorgeous.

great view at the top, was very cloudy so visibility was low but still enjoyed it. not your lushest trail in the area, gets more green as you go up. climb the rocks at the top, it's invigorating!

The final viewpoint is beautiful. There is one almost impassable part. After you pass the blue arrow you will find a T in the road. Go left. If you go right you will find that the trail is washed out by 10 huge fallen trees

Very muddy which I think is par for the course. Very beautiful at the end. Bathrooms at trailhead. Dogs allowed.

HikingGreat!

I wouldn’t consider myself a great hiker so the switchbacks definitely had me winded but the view from the top was definitely worth it. Not to muddy but trail has a lot of big slippery roots.

To be clear, there were two trailheads. There is a shorter one but it is now gated with a private property or no trespassing sign. it’s very muddy in wet seasons. If you google map gods thumb/ the knoll trailhead, you will be on the longer trail, but will get to see the knoll and have a great hike on a nice trail! Little muddy here and there, but it is the Pacific Northwest. And yes, a portion of the trail is on private property, and the signs just asks ppl to be respectful and mindful. I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

Areas are muddy, but not bad. Toward the end the trail gets very sketchy due to downed trees, but if you take the trail on the map that’s near the top that turns directly left, the path will be much more clear. Breathtaking view at the top on a clear day!!

Love this hike! I did it on Sunday 2/28 and the weather couldn't have been better. Several steep climbs in places but none of them last very long. The mud was insane though, there were times when my leg just kept sinking further and further than expected hahah. Definitely want boots! Saw folks wearing vans, would not recommend that for any hike.

Great hike, but incredibly muddy (not surprising given its February). Wouldn’t recommend doing this without hiking boots.

02\27 Conditions were pretty bad. Few made the treacherous trek to the top while most watched from a distance. Very slick on the narrow trail leading up to the thumb, but if you can get passed that you are in the clear. Expect to see mud throughout the trail and once you reach the thumb it only gets worse before it gets better. Having said that reaching the top is totally worth it.

The mud wasn’t as bad as some of the reviews let on, or maybe just having waterproof hiking boots did the trick. Got to the trailhead around 7:30am. Didn’t see anyone on the way up and saw maybe 10-15 on the way down. The trail is a good workout but I honestly think some of the shorter, easier trails at lower elevations have as good of views. I enjoyed the challenge and would go back on a sunny day but was a bit underwhelmed at the top
