This is nice but heavily travelled with A LOT of people. If you can get to the 'Horse Trail' aka John Muir Trail, you can avoid the long lines going up the Mist Trail. These trails are the 'gateway' to Little Yosemite. Once in Little Yosemite, you can head up Half Dome or Cloud's Rest.

Nice paved trail. Easy short hike with a beautiful view.

We expected mud, but man, it was MUDDY! The reward at the end was well worth it. My 12 year old jumped off of the larger cliff while my 6 year old jumped off of the waterfall. Bring at least a change of shoes and water to wash off with at the car. Took five of us about 1.5 hours going out, 1 hour at the falls, 1.5 coming back, with frequent stops.

Like all the other reviews said, be prepared to get muddy. It was very slippery in some areas, so be careful. It took us just under 3 hours out and back at a leisurely pace. It is a well traveled trail so expect to pass people in both directions. Cross the stream at least four times. Beautiful hike. Well worth the mud.

Jan 21st 2019. Road leading up to the trailhead is closed. We had to walk 42minutes before reaching the trailhead. Snow at trailhead. I would recommend spikes.

Definitely recommend spikes. Poles were helpful on the way out because it was downhill and snowy and some sections were icy. Totally worth it. The lake is completely covered in snow at this point, but the views are beautiful.

Started hiking at 12p with snow flurries and reached rainbows at 1:20 in 1/2ft of snow/15 degree temp. We stopped for a million pictures, spent 15 frozen minutes at the falls and returned back tonour car at 2:40. I can’t say how the hike is in warmer temps but this made for an unbelievably breathtaking winter hike. The snowy falls was nothing short of breathtaking. We loved every second of this 5.5mile hike and would do it again in second. This would be a great hike route to le conte as well if you’ve already seen alum cave. Parking was easy, trail well maintained, not steep at all. Saw every level of fitness hiking even in the rough winter weather

Recommend bringing spikes. I just had hiking boots which was fine but would have been easier with spikes. The lake is gorgeous and for the people that are worried about the potholes on the .4 mile road to the trail head, invest in something other than a Prius and you’ll be okay

Great trail with majestic views about 1/2 mile in. Beautiful in the snow but be sure to wear good waterproof hiking boots as it has a few small streams to cross. Falls are impressive. A few trees have fallen over trail.

Did this hike in mid December and it was great- some icy patches along the way at the time but navigable in hiking shoes alone. Beautiful view from the top of the falls!

Beautiful views! And a bit of a workout but worth it!

Went on 1/17/19 at 0700. The trail head lists the hike at 8 miles total. The trail itself was fun because you start out in a lush rainforest and end up in a winter wonderland. The trail doesn't offer many views, but it's a nice landscape to hike through. Micro spikes needed. No need for snow shoes. The road leading up to the trail has numerous potholes, so drive slowly.

This was such a fun hike, but a little longer than we were expecting! All four of us were baby-wearing our littles. We loved the falls at the end and jumped in the falls at the end. Crawl up the waterfall and see the waterfall at the top!

Amazing hike! It’s not too long of a hike and it’s on a paved trail with dirt trails coming and going from it. The falls are amazing and your able to get right up too them. There’s a upper and lower fall. You can get down to the lower part but you have to be careful with the rocks! Beautiful views!

Nice hike. Muddy. Great swimming under the waterfall.

Nice hike definitely recommend microspikes and poles. Has some icy sections.

There was some confusion if we should take ext 52 or 47 thanks to Apple maps. We chose to go with ext 47. The gate to the FSR is closed. We parked on the street near the gate. It was Sunday afternoon so there were plenty of places to park. We knew that we would be racing against the sun but are pretty fit, experienced, and prepared. There is ice on the two mile stretch of road you have to hike to get to the trail head. The trail itself is covered in snow and ice. I would not have attempted this trail without micro spikes. With warmer temps I was careful to stay on the trail and not get too close to the edge (could easily slip or snow could give way on the cliff side). Round trip this hike ends up about 8 miles. From the gate and back it took us about 2.5 hours round trip, including our stop at the falls.

perfect jogging trail and place to walk your dog.

Soooooo beautiful ! Summer time is definitely the best!

This was a trail that was totally worth the view at the top. All paved trail that has a steady and tough incline the whole way. The view from the observatory at the top is great. 360° view of the mountains that is very photo worthy. The most challenging part of this trail is parking. It is an absolute nightmare. Narrow two-lane road with cars inventively parked on both sides and a line of cars that goes halfway to Gatlinburg.

Beautiful in the summer and winter. Definitely a favorite.

Beautiful hike, wear hiking boots not tennis shoes! Bring water and a snack for when you get to the falls, it is well worth the hike. We live in Iowa and the trail was difficult for us but we made it!

This is a beautiful trail, kid friendly. Short with some elevation gain. The waterfalls make it all worth it, we spent about an hour taking pictures and splashing in the pool at the bottom.

Difficult!!! Thick snow, it was raining, view is worth it!

Waterfall is best part no surprise but hike is busy because it’s paved with all levels able to enjoy it. Mostly tree high Mountain View

It's a nice looking (though not very dramatic) water fall at the top of a fairly large ascent. The trail is easy in the sense that it's well paved, without any rocks to climb over. Just keep in mind that you are basically walking a ramp to the equivalency of the top of a thirty foot building.

It was great to see, along with all of the other folks hanging out up there, but I don't feel the need to ever return.

Open! I suggest going up the mountain through the paved road and then leaving through the actual trail! I am a 31 female in okay physical condition and went alone. I went at around 10am. Engineers were giving maintenance to the antennas so you’re never truly alone. If you decide to go to the mt. Britton hike then you should push yourself and finish this hike!

We went up to Nevada falls via the Mist Trail and then looped back down the John Muir switchbacks. If you like to hike you must do this - it’s beautiful and rewarding. I love this hike. We went when the falls were just thundering and we were soaked so be prepared for that possibility depending on how Vernal falls is running. If you’re in Yosemite and have not done this hike just do it you will not regret it! Spectacular views.
