you drive right up to the views so it's not really a hike but it is stunningly gorgeous. we we're lucky enough to experience a clear day, being able to see all the way to the Canadian Rockies. apparently it's typical to not even be able to see the water!

Steep but amazing. I would highly recomend this trail!

July 12, 2018. Beautiful morning. Cool on hike up all in lovely forest but very warm hiking down from Lower Lena Lake. No bugs!! Moderate difficulty for senior hikers 75+

Beautiful trail-did the last part of it around Lake Angeles the other day!

Nice and easy hike through the forest along the river. Beautiful old trees. Very narrow trail. Somewhat confusing to return.

Took trail in mid spring after road opened. Terrific views rewarded the hike. Trail crowd was light but topside was crowded with those who drove up. There are benches to enjoy the view of Mt Rainier but I had to wait my turn to sit down and have the snack I packed to eat after the hike up. Furthermore a group of people were chatting very loudly killing the vibe of the view.

This hike might be better before the road opens.

Excellent trail for the whole family. The river is the star of this show.

Feels like cheating driving up to the top, but the views are amazing. Real easy trails up here. Gorgeous views all around. Got very lucky with visibility and were able to see all the way to the Canadian Rockies!

I don't think we did the "hike" from beach 1, but did walk down the busy path to the beach from the parking lot trail! Seemed great for exploring with kids! Beach wood everywhere, starfish and sea urchins galore out by the big haystack rock. Very cool spot! Had a great weather today too!

Beautiful beach! If you can go at low tide, check the rocks for starfish!

Beautiful huge trees and turquoise water...

Extraordinary! Mother Nature put on a magnificent display with a sunny, blue-sky day mixed with ethereal fog that rolled past the beach for a time. Seeing the seastacks swathed in light fog was amazing! The beach is strewn with huge drift logs/trees that are a fun challenge to photo. I've trekked down many beach walks and this is one of my favorites, for sure!

The hike itself was pretty okay, hardly a loop, if I did it again I’d go back the way I came because the loop is not clearly marked and leaded you through people’s camp grounds and hard top. The hike itself is pretty with a cool waterfall or two but you have to pay $30 in order to go on this hike, and the sights were not better than what you can find for free. Also it’s 6 miles not 5.5.

Such a beautiful trail!!! Would love to go back someday.

A beautiful ridge hike with lots of mountain meadow views as well as a really nice panorama of the mountains of the Olympic National Park.

I will definitely do this hike again!

My husband and I just hiked this trail today. We wanted to hike hurricane hill but unfortunately it was closed. So we figured we should do another hike in the vicinity since getting up to hurricane ridge took so long due to construction on the main park road. We felt like we went up and down 3 small mountains/hills to get to what didn’t even feel like the summit. We did see a mom and baby mountain goat (so cool!) but besides that felt like the hike was just meh. Also we keep seeing the hike labelled as 2.5 miles and we were confused because we definitely hiked more than that. We were going to settle for it just being an unfortunate hike until downloading this app and reading the comment that says we were supposed to veer LEFT at the arrow “trail” sign when we in fact went RIGHT because we saw people in front of us heading that direction (it seemed like the arrow was pointing that way). Now I feel dumb and annoyed. Oh well. Everyone else: stay left at the unclear arrow sign if you want mount Angeles!

love it

Insanely beautiful hike! Did this two days ago. There’s a little snow at the top but most of it has melted so parts of the trail are pretty muddy. But beware...there’s LOTS of mosquitos here currently. My group and I camped up there for the night and we’ve never experienced anything like it. They swarmed us and we got home looking like we all had some crazy skin infection or disease. If the mosquitos weren’t as bad as they were, we could have enjoyed the area a little more! The lake was crystal clear, and the backdrop of the snow-covered peaks was picturesque and stunning. We even saw a family of mountain goats! This trail is very very very steep and involves some scrambling, so it’s more for advanced hikers. Worth it!

Amazing hike with lots of wildlife and great panoramic views at the top.

Lower Lena Lake is beautiful and easily accessible . We hiked further up into the Brothers Wilderness expecting to cross streams and find alpine pools to bath in and instead hiked parallel to a dry riverbed. The only saving grace for this part of the hike was the variety of yummy wild berries. We hiked back to Lena and went for a swim.

Amazing views!!! Stayed the night in the meadows right next to a water source. If you plan on overnighting, there is a camp spot around 1.5 miles with a water source, we wished we would of camped here so that we dropped our packs before the real steep climb. Just wanted to add that in case anyone was looking! Overall an awesome, yet difficult hike. Make sure you cross the street to start the hike, there is a set of stairs that looks like the trail by the parking lot and it is not apart of this trail.

Very easy trail and good start into the hiking season. Bring good bug spray because horseflies, bees and nats are present plenty. Lots of shade with spots to veer off and get close to the river. Pretty views and beautiful waterfalls.

Had an amazing time up here today.
Taking forest road 27 to the trailhead is super easy: there are signs for both the upper and lower trailheads. Lower trailhead was crowded on a Saturday morning, but we were able to squeeze into one of the last spots around 8:45am.
Trail is definitely a hard one, but nothing unmanageable and well worth the spectacular views of both the Olympics and Cascades.

Perfect day to be on a mountain. This trail is overgrown in parts, but it’s still easy to follow. Wildflowers are really blooming right now, as well as salmon berry and huckleberry. Easily the best smelling trail I’ve been on! Mainly in Forrest most of the way with some spots you break out into beautiful meadows with steep slopes all around you. Moonshine Flats is a great spot to camp if that’s your plan. The first glimpse of the view you are in store for is when you hit the last big switchback getting to the summit ridge. Once you hit the summit, enjoy the incredible 360 views, along with lunch. I think this is more around 8 miles round trip however. But a beautiful hike. Highly recommend.

Definitely different!! Be aware of tide changed and wear good enclosed shoes that grip well. Beautiful hike. Saw sea lions on rocks in distance. Long drive on curvy rough road to get there.
