My friend and I roughed it all the way up to Elk Lake in the early Spring, but decided to turn back once we got up past our knees in snow. Parts of the trail were underwater, but we were prepared for that. Its just the snow we were not prepared for. Beautiful trail though with lots of life.... and rain.

A wonderful forest hike along the bank of the Hoh River. Parts of the trail are muddy. There is a beautiful little waterfall along the way. There are several camp sites; you register at the Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center but you do not reserve camp spots, except for the farthest ones. Hoh Rainforest gets 14 feet of rain a year; the most in November and the least in July and August.

To call it a loop is misleading. It does connect, you just have to use some critical thinking skills. Also, it is more than 5.5 miles. That being said, it was worth the aggravation on the way back. The trail goes through a drive in camp site that has a hard top road. You will pass two toilet facilities on the return trip almost back to the resort.

There were some minor falls all along the trail and the main falls were amazing! The old growth and mossy trees reminded me of where Tree Beard would live if we were in Middle Earth. Some wash out areas and tree falls made it slightly difficult to navigate. Overall, worth it. Make sure you have water proof boots.

Great easy hike, a little climbing over a downed tree, but the falls are just beautiful. Lots of gorgeous pics of moss covered rocks with water flowing over.

great views. very snowy on april 18 2018. extra gear needed to reach the top due to weather that time.

Excellent hike / workout that is sort but sweet - beautiful views at the top!

We checked this trail out after doing the Hall of Moss loop. We went about half way to Tom Creek Trail. It was pouring rain! Trail was very muddy so def need some good hiking shoes if you plan on going soon. This trail was nice you get more moss, big trees and a view of the river.

Great trail that will give you a workout. It was great for the dog. The lookout at the top was a bit socked in so the view can be a bit lackluster if conditions are right.

Great trail! My 5 year old and pregnant wife had no problems and loved the views.

I chose this trail due to its Moderate rating in difficulty, but damn, it was definitely a reminder of how out of shape I am. Bring hella water. This trail does not let up, it’s literally straight steep for 2 miles. So just a little warning if you get a little huffy and puffy like me. If I would have known, I would have chose a longer hike with less of an incline ! Haha the view is totally worth it though!

Super easy hike, great views. Part of the trail higher up past the falls is snowed out this time of year.

Great hike. beautiful lush greenery and creeks along the way. there is a large tree in the way so go around it. falls are roaring this time of the year

All these tags are completely fake. Do not expect anything they advertise, I don't know how this isn't illegal. Total waste of time, one of the worst trails I've ever been on

We hiked this in September and it was incredible! I had no idea we would see so many peaks in the distance. The first part of the trail is woodsy, then much more exposed (it got a little hot!) and steep with some rocks to climb over at points. The view at the top was more than worth it. This is in my top five hikes for sure!

Quick hike to the beautiful falls. We'll maintained, a bit of incline but doable. Very open trail, only saw two couples coming out of the trail head as we were going in. No bathroom facilities, parking across from trailhead. Dirt road going to trailhead was full of pot holes. Add extra time driving there.

Awesome place to visit. The moss is literally covering almost all you see and the dense colors of green are incredible! Highly recommend visiting

great views of North and South sound

This was an amazing trail! It was a constant workout on the way up, but only two miles, so not too bad. The trail is in great condition! Almost all of the snow was gone, just a little bit at the north view point. Both views were breath taking! Coming down was tough on my knees even with poles, but still loved the hike!

Found a pair of glasses on my way down from this hike today (3/15/18). anyone lose a pair? they are thin lenses and a pretty strong prescription!

Very good hike. I would say moderate to strenuous. Views on top are amazing, mountains on the North view and beautiful views of Hood Canal on South view about another half mile.

One of the best trails in Washington! The scenery is breathtaking on the top.
A little icy the last part of the trails so microspikes were helpful.

Man, it was cold!! Stayed at Five Mile Island for a couple nights. Really loved this campsite- open space, outhouse available, didn't see bear ropes for food tho but could have missed it, right next to the river, lots of flat camping options. Ran into a herd of about 30 Elk. Attempted to continue on the trail but the snow became more dense - highly encourage micro spikes for this. Decided suffering through the cold (even though my sleeping bag is 20 degrees and I was wearing 4 layers) wasn't very fun. Will definitely attempt to reach the glacier at another time.

Great hike, didn’t go all the way up seeing as we’re not in our best shape and we ran into slippery snow and forgot spikes. expect a solid 2 miles of all up hill. Plan to try again soon though. Tough enough to slow me down and take breaks, but not so tough that it was impossible.

Short and sweet hike with a stunning waterfall at the end! There was still a lot of ice which made for a beautiful picture. The water is clear and mountain blue.

I wish the trail went on past the waterfall or had some other off shoots to make the hike longer or give you some options to get off the main drag. The road out there was kind of rough.. I didn’t see this mentioned in the previous reviews, but if you aren’t driving an old beater truck out there make sure you give yourself at least 30 mins extra time to pick your way up the pothole dirt road. Overall great hike and worth doing!

I’d say this is more hard than moderate. It’s 10-20% grades and 2,000 elevation gain at 2 miles up and another 2 down. I’d say poles or a walking stick would be a good idea. Look up the weather conditions before you go, it was a whiteout when I got to the top.

such a beautiful trail, and at the end is this magnificent waterfall

It was nice and beautiful but to windy at the top!

Gorgeous falls after a nice hike! Trail was dry today.

Beautiful hike. One of the better ones I've done. Make sure to bring snow gear and do the winter pass (right at the fork).

Good hike, very steep, as a averagely fit 23 year old the way up is definitely challenging and very steep without many breaks, the way down will definitely hurt if you don’t have the right shoes and a walking stick. The South point gives a nice view of Seattle as well!
