great views of North and South sound

This was an amazing trail! It was a constant workout on the way up, but only two miles, so not too bad. The trail is in great condition! Almost all of the snow was gone, just a little bit at the north view point. Both views were breath taking! Coming down was tough on my knees even with poles, but still loved the hike!

Found a pair of glasses on my way down from this hike today (3/15/18). anyone lose a pair? they are thin lenses and a pretty strong prescription!

Wonderful climb but you need to be in shape to keep a low heart rate! Ropes are a little ways after the sign that marks "end of maintained trail." To challenge those you are required to be in extreme physical shape for maximum results.

Great time with my sons on my first backpacking trip. Highly recommend this loop - don’t skimp on the side trips like Lunch Lake. Worth it.

Loved it. Views of the Olympics, Cascades, Victoria Island and the San Juan Islands. Made it all the way out to the lighthouse. Watch the tide tables. Towards the end I was forced up into the rocky areas which is harder to walk on.

Very good hike. I would say moderate to strenuous. Views on top are amazing, mountains on the North view and beautiful views of Hood Canal on South view about another half mile.

One of the best trails in Washington! The scenery is breathtaking on the top.
A little icy the last part of the trails so microspikes were helpful.

Not a difficult hike at all. I did the 6 miles round trip, and it’s only 1k elevation change. The weather was amazing but they do call it hurricane ridge for a reason, it’s windy. Good amount of snow from the lodge to summit. Views are amazing, on a clear day, you can see Mt. Baker, Straight of Juan de Fuca, and awesome vistas from the Olympics. Highly recommend!!!

Amazing hike. It started snowing a little bit but not too bad. Incline almost the entire way, and kind of sketchy towards the top with the ropes. Once you see that view it is totally worth it!

Really awesome views. We had to turn back about .3 miles short of the top because of some snow that we hadn’t anticipated. But if you go this time of year and you have shoes with good grip, you’ll be fine! Lots of inclines!

A great hike today. Due to the snow fall the past two weeks, the last half of the trail still has snow on it ... so bring your trekking poles. :)

Great hike, didn’t go all the way up seeing as we’re not in our best shape and we ran into slippery snow and forgot spikes. expect a solid 2 miles of all up hill. Plan to try again soon though. Tough enough to slow me down and take breaks, but not so tough that it was impossible.

Beautiful hike with the snow! Still doable with hiking boots, but would recommend having something else, especially for going back down.

I can see how this trail could be really rewarding. Today the first couple miles had no snow but toward the lake it was snowy. There were several people stuck slipping and sliding but we marched right through with micro-spikes (highly recommended). The day was overcast and off and on rain. The Lake was mostly frozen. Fairly easy hike with mild elevation gain. Great trail!

I backpacked this loop over the summer. It was my very first time backpacking and we did it clockwise (most people do it counterclockwise) so there was a lot of uphill. It was hard but ridiculously beautiful the entire time. The scenery changes throughout the whole loop too. You hike through forests, in the mountains, and by lakes. At some points I swear I felt like I was walking through Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. When we went we saw a bunch of mountain goats and even two black bears! I went in August and when we hiked through a part of the mountains there were huckleberries everywhere. Basically the whole thing is amazing!

this is an amazing hike to be able to see different bodies of water it definitely is a really hard hike and the end is really scary and very excited that I was able to do such a hike

I’d say this is more hard than moderate. It’s 10-20% grades and 2,000 elevation gain at 2 miles up and another 2 down. I’d say poles or a walking stick would be a good idea. Look up the weather conditions before you go, it was a whiteout when I got to the top.

Such a beautiful day and hike! It was quiet and beautiful and clear. Fresh snowfall early in the morning and myself and another group were the first ones up... It was a decent hike upwards for the first half, but nothing too difficult. Didn’t even need cramp-ons.

I took the Upper Lena Lake trail for a mile and turned around - it got way too slick and icy in patches. I have good boots, but not good enough for that one.

The hike down was much wetter and more slick. Not terrible, just had to be cautious. And there were a ton more people heading up as I finished (11:00-ish).

Definitely worth doing and the lake would be so beautiful to hang out at on a warm sunny day!

Hiked 2/12/18 and LOOOOVEEDD it. Would personally rate as easy, but that’s just me. Was a beautiful day and didn’t want to leave the lake.

We hiked this trail on a snowy February day, but when we arrived we only had sun. I'm from out of state, so perhaps this is a rain shadow hike? The trail is very well marked with pit toilets at the trailhead. I liked that the trail ascends very consistently at more or less the same incline. It made it more enjoyable but still enough of a challenge. For a winter hike, bring lots of layers. There was a lot of wind at the top and I quickly added about 3 layers to stay warm. My black lab mutt was shivering, so we had a coat and a backpack for her. When you get to the top down by the lake, the trail continues on the left a ways. Don't try to go right as the trail ends and there are large boulders. The trail only had a few muddy spots. There was a very thin layer of snow at the top. The lake itself is relatively large for an alpine lake. We arrived in the afternoon and had to sit in the shade along the shoreline. The drive to get here is also really pretty since you drive along the sound for a while.

It was nice and beautiful but to windy at the top!

Beautiful hike. One of the better ones I've done. Make sure to bring snow gear and do the winter pass (right at the fork).

Good hike, very steep, as a averagely fit 23 year old the way up is definitely challenging and very steep without many breaks, the way down will definitely hurt if you don’t have the right shoes and a walking stick. The South point gives a nice view of Seattle as well!

Feb 11 - Great view up top on a sunny day. Wish there wasn’t a fence. Worth walking to the south viewpoint as well. Crampons not needed, only a small amount of packed snow at top.

This was a challenging yet doable hike for a beginner snowshoer. Amazing views made it all worth it. Just note that it is a mile and a half from the visitor center to the trail head. We did 6 miles roundtrip. Also, the road to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center was in good condition but only open Friday - Sunday in the winter 9am to 5pm. Best to get there early. We were waiting in line at the gate at 8:40am, got to the Visitor Center parking at 9:30. Started hiking at 10am and back to the car just before 2pm.

Beautiful way to spend a sunny winter day, steady uphill hike. Busy even on a cold day, better to start early before the crowds. Rocks and tree roots throughout the trail but still a very well maintained trail.

Hey! I am headed up to hike this weekend with my girlfriend. We have snowshoes and crampons and intend to start the hike very early (5:30am) in order to summit in one day. As we only have a car, not an SUV we were hoping someone who has been recently could please fill me in on the road conditions getting up there and if our plan to summit sounds do able. Thank you!

Scariest thing I’ve ever done. Totally worth it though.

Easy and beautiful
